Work Text:

This is not a dream, right?

Firefly studied her reflection in the standing mirror. It still didn’t feel real. Someone like her was never supposed to wear a wedding dress after all. Her armor, Sam, was the only way she should’ve ever presented herself to the world.

I remember how weird I felt when I bought my first clothes… but this is on a whole other level.

Was this really happening? Just how many hoops did she have to jump through to arrive in front of this mirror?

A miracle wouldn’t have been enough to write this ending on the last page of the script.

But if this is not a dream… can I really accept this? Do I deserve this much happiness for myself when the other Knights were denied even a glimmer of it?

“What’s the hold- HEY! Let me go!”

Firefly jumped up when she heard Silver Wolf yell outside the door. Firefly carefully traversed the room, trying her best not to stumble on her high heels. Once she opened the door, she found a familiar scene unfolding in front of her.

“Nobody is supposed to see the bride at the moment, not even her maid of honor,” Blade scolded Silver Wolf while holding her up in the air by the collar of her dress.

“Since when do you care about traditions?! Besides, if the bride wasn’t taking ages to arrive, I wouldn’t be here! Have you finally regained your sanity and decided to bail on Stelle?” Silver Wolf asked in Firefly’s direction.

“Sorry, Wolfie… I was about to leave but…” Firefly’s voice lost itself into the void.

It was supposed to be her happiest day. Everyone had worked so hard to make sure everything was perfect. Whining would’ve been incredibly ungrateful.

But after looking at each other for a moment, her two companions let out a sigh.

“You wouldn’t be Firefly if you weren’t second-guessing yourself even on your special day,” Silver Wolf grinned after Blade let her down onto the floor.

“Wolfie, I- OW!”

Firefly’s cheeks were pinched without any mercy.

“So, do you think this is a dream or what?” Silver Wolf asked.

“No! Definitely not!”

“Exactly! Cause these damn heels you made me put on would’ve woke me up at least an hour ago! And this trap of a dress… The more you stay here, the more I have to endure it!”

Silver Wolf’s ears were surprisingly close to the lilac shade of her dress.

She hates formal stuff so much… but she’s still enduring it for me.

“I know, Wolfie. I will never be able to thank you enough,” Firefly smiled, massaging her cheeks, “I was just trying to prepare myself.”

“That’s not what I meant, idiot. I don’t need you to thank me. What I was trying to say is: if you convinced me to do something like this, should you really be acting all insecure?”

Firefly’s eyes widened.

“Wolfie…”

“Wolfie, Wolfie, Wolfie… your future wife will get jealous if you keep repeating other girls’ names. Come on, since I’m here already, let’s take the chance to break more traditions,” Silver Wolf chuckled while extracting her phone, “Come on, Bladie, I’ll keep it between us.”

“Mph…”

Despite his grunt of disapproval, Blade kneeled down to fit into the photo Silver Wolf was about to take.

“Cheese!”

How was one supposed to pose for important occasions? Firefly had no idea. Instinctively, she opted for a victory sign.

“Ahahah, look, you even made Blade smile! Isn’t this another proof you can do everything you set your mind to today?”

“You are lucky I couldn’t bring my sword into the venue.”

Firefly couldn’t help but giggle. There was something comforting about these two acting the same as usual.

When she raised her eyes again, Silver Wolf was handing her the phone.

“Look! I may not be as good as the March girl, but it came out pretty well!”

This photo should’ve also felt unrealistic. Three dangerous criminals dressed up for a wedding and smiling happily. And yet…

“It looks right…” Firefly murmured.

“Of course it does! We spent ages choosing the dress and getting the measurements right! It looks like you were born to wear it! If you don’t believe me, just stare at your wife when you walk down the aisle. Good thing she has Kafka reigning her in at her side, or she would totally leave the altar to get to you!”

“I think it will be the same for me when I see Stelle! Stelle in a wedding dress… I think I’m going to die of heart attack!”

“If you say so…” Silver Wolf scoffed, “as long as you are back in spirits!”

“I… I feel better! Thanks for coming down here, Wolfie! You are right, I should stop overthinking.”

Just then, a heavy hand landed on her shoulder.

“Don’t let this girl sway you into her shallow ways. It’s normal to feel the weight of such an important day. But I have to agree that you shouldn’t only focus on worries and doubts but also on what you’ve accomplished. It’s easy for people like us to dwell on the darkness we left behind and not see the sun that is right in front of us.”

Firefly raised her head to see Blade giving her a comforting smile. Just a few months ago, she wouldn’t have even imagined he could be capable of such an impression.

We’ve come so far… together. Why stop now?

“Thank you, Blade.”

Her best man nodded.

“I think our lost comrades would only feel satisfied to see how we defeated fate to reach this happy ending.”

“Give it to the edgy character to bring up the dead during a wedding,” Silver Wolf smirked, “Come on, let’s go now before Stelle really thinks you ran away.”

Let’s go? Silver Wolf, may I remind you I’m the one who is supposed to walk her down the aisle?” Blade glared at her.

“Oh, come on, Bladie! We are, or rather were the Stellaron Hunters! Let’s do a last crime together!”

The two stared at each other for a solid ten seconds before Blade resigned himself with a:

“I’ll allow it.”

“You heard the man! So, could I have your arm, Mademoiselle?”

“Of course!”

Firefly’s steps felt so light as she walked towards the wedding venue of the Reverie Hotel, Silver Wolf to her right, Blade to the left. With her comrades at her side, all her worries had been left behind.

A buzz welcomed her entrance. Were people mad at her for breaking protocol? But as far as she could see, there were only smiling faces. Old foes turned friends, unlikely comrades she had found in the war against Nanook, and a lot of unfamiliar faces.

Everyone seemed so happy. And the atmosphere only turned lighter once an angelic voice started singing.

“Birds are born with no shackles~”

The same voice that had accompanied her reunion with Stelle would now lead to their eternal union.

Firefly looked forward.

Kafka winked at her and…

Every doubt disappeared once sunset met golden. Love was the only thing left in Firefly’s mind. As she stepped in front of Stelle, her lips parted and:

“I do.”

“...I didn’t even start the ceremony yet!” she heard Sunday babble.

“You heard my wife!” Stelle laughed.

And so did the guests as the two girls kissed each other in front of the flabbergasted priest.

“Figured it would end like this,” Silver Wolf sighed.

“Oh my… l hope they won’t go straight to their room after this. We still need to take photos with the Express,” Kafka cooed.

“Count me out of that.”

As the kiss ended, Firefly’s cheeks were furiously red.

“I…I…sorry!”

“It’s fine… this is exactly how it should be for us. Wouldn’t expect anything different from the Molten Knight!” Stelle smiled, then turning towards Sunday, she added, “I do too, by the way.”

“...very well, I declare you wife and wife. You can… kiss the bride again, I guess?”

Notes:
