Work Text:
It’s been over a month since Lu Guang’s death. Lu Guang finally got what he wanted. But what about Cheng Xiaoshi? All left alone, looking at pictures of Lu Guang scattered across the table. No matter the cost, he was going to bring back Lu Guang. He was going to break the rules, travel back in time, and change it.
Clap
Cheng Xiaoshi expected the familiar rush of diving into the photo to happen, but it didn’t. Instead of being transported into the past, the world suddenly turned black. The surroundings became an endless back void. Cheng Xiaoshi had dissolved into a stark, silent void.
Standing right in front of him was a familiar-looking figure. Could it be Lu Guang?
“Don’t do it.” Sure enough, it was Lu Guang. Voice was echoey but firm.
“Why? You’re dead! Let me go back! Let me fix this!” Cheng Xiaoshi said, rushing towards him.
“If you change what happened in the past, the timeline collapses, and you die next,” Lu Guang replied. Cheng Xiaoshi stopped in his tracks, and tears already started to flood his eyes. “I died so you could have a future. I won’t let you throw it away.”
“Lu Guang…” Cheng Xiaoshi hesitated; he didn’t know what to say. He approached Lu Guang. Cheng Xiaoshi was glad he was able to see Lu Guang again. His white hair and black eyes.
Lu Guang firmly gripped Cheng Xiaoshi’s shoulder, “I’m sorry,” Lu Guang whispered. Cheng Xiaoshi pulled Lu Guang into a tight hug, sobbing into his shoulder.
“I should’ve done something!” Cheng Xiaoshi said.
“You did what should be done,” Lu Guang stated. Slowly, the world started to return to normal, and at the same time, Lu Guang's figure slowly faded away.
“No! Lu Guang!” Cheng Xiaoshi looked at him.
“I promise…I’ll see you again someday. Until then, be sure to take care of yourself, okay?” Lu Guang said.
“Lu Guang!” Cheng Xiaoshi shouted his name one last time.
Cheng Xiaoshi jolted awake in bed, rubbing his two hands on his face. He sighed deeply. Cheng Xiaoshi still can’t get over the fact that Lu Guang is dead. Can he?
