“Any eyes on the target?”
“Suspect disappeared into the Colin building, and we lost sight of him captain.”
“Fuck, keep an eye out and let me know if you have any viewing of him.” Piers sighed, switching the channel on his earpiece. “Chris, you have any insights on this?”
“Looks like he was aware of his surroundings enough to realize we were on his ass. We adjusted our stances and are now surrounding all the exits in case he tries to slip out again.”
“We can’t let him get away again, he’s hurt too many people as is. Do we have any info on the Colin building at all? What’s inside?” Piers asked, adjusting his sniper to attempt to look into the building’s windows but was proved to be a difficult task when realizing the windows were either tinted or blocked off with things plastered in the windows.
“Seem’s it’s just a non-related business building but it does have a daycare, Piers.” Chris whispered, a slight unease in his otherwise strong and confident voice.
“I don’t like this; something is wrong with this.”
“I’ll try to get some more information, try to get a closer look inside the building, I’ll keep you updated.”
“Be careful! Don’t do anything rash and wait for back up if needed!” Piers replied. He knew his husband far too well to know that the man wouldn’t hesitate to rush into any situation that could occur.
The worst of this situation wasn’t the fact that there might be children inside the building with the presence of a sinister man. No, the worst was that Chris was now involved, which was by far the worst-case scenario for Piers.
Chris had retired from active duty a couple years ago after a gruesome mission that brought him back to the U.S in a semi-comatose state. His injuries were intense and the pain he was suffering from allowed the doctors to make a split decision of putting him into a coma to allow his body to repair itself without the man being in too much pain. It was a decision they made but of course, they needed the approval of the man’s husband to proceed. Regardless of the fear of knowing he was now the one to make the decision, he agreed and allowed them to put him to rest.
When the man finally arrived back home and Piers was able to finally see his husband in person, it absolutely broke him. The strong man he knew was now lying in a hospital bed with both arms and a leg broken, 5 cracked ribs, multiple deep wounds, and completely scratched up from head to toe that would definitely scar.
It wasn’t the best sight to see, but the younger man was just happy that his husband made it home at all.
Retirement was a conversation that came up between the two men a couple times, but this time, things went to close to no longer having that privilege to choose. When the veteran man finally woke up from his coma, he was confused. He was just in a small village being tortured by a disfigured creature, and now he was in a bright white room with beeping machines and he couldn’t move.
Recovery took almost a year, hours and hours of physical therapy and the support from his friends, family and more importantly, Piers, allowed him to finally be able to get back to his normal life. Though now, the new normal was no longer being on the field, but now in the comms room, making sure that Alpha team wouldn’t ever have to deal with the circumstances he did.
Truth be told, he enjoyed this new life. He enjoyed watching his husband become the captain he knew he would be from the very start. The younger man prided himself on his leadership, being a force to be reckoned with but also allowing his heart to be shown to his team. He created a loving and welcoming environment where his team were encouraged to speak to him about their difficulties, whether it was personal or professional. It’s what truly divided Alpha’s team to any other team in the BSAA, they truly were a family at the end of the day and supported each other with no exceptions.
So now here they were, nearly 5 years later and Chris was pulled back into action. The man who once tortured him in the small village was here in the U.S. When the word came to them about this sudden appearance, Chris was determined to be put on the team. It caused many fights between the pair but ultimately Piers allowed it, knowing damn well that this was an ending Chris needed to move on. But this time, Piers wouldn’t allow this monster to tear apart his husband once more.
“We have eyes on the suspect Captain.” Came the voice in his ear, quickly snapping the memories out of his head.
“Do we have the approval to advance?”
“Proceed with caution, we don’t know who’s in the building and we want the minimal number of casualties possible.”
“Copy that, Captain.”
“Chris, do you have any visuals?” Piers asked, looking through his scope towards their general area.
“Chris? Do you have any visuals?” He repeated, waiting for a reply that seemed to never come. “CHRIS?!” He yelled into the air.
It was a mere second after his final exclamation that the sound of an explosion was heard. The deafening sound of the building they were just watching was now slowly falling apart.
“Is everyone okay?!? Respond immediately!” Piers yelled, the concern in his voice for his team seeping out uncontrollably.
One by one his comrades were giving him updates on their well beings, but he couldn’t stop the stress of waiting for his husband’s voice to come through his earpiece, but it never did.
“Does anyone have any signs of life? Civilians, the suspect? Anything? MY HUSBAND!?” Piers once again yelled, tears threatening to spill out.
“We have eyes on the suspect, he’s down. No signs of any civilians or hostages, he appears to have been here alone.” One of his men stated.
“Where is my HUSBAND!?!?” Piers asked, merely a whisper coming out of his mouth.
“We’re searching Captain, we’ll find him!”
“I’m coming down.” He stated, throwing his sniper onto his back and began descending the long stairway back to the ground floor.
He wasn’t sure what to expect completely when he arrived at the building. The building itself was stated to be safe to enter, but the amount of rubble around him, he wasn’t so sure.
“Theres another entrance to the building on the other side of this door but its blocked.”
“Get it open!”
The group of men all began to hurriedly throw the debris aside in an attempt to loosen the hold it had on the door. When they finally managed to get the door open, they were welcomed by an empty room with some boxes thrown around half hazardly.
Where the fuck is he? Piers asked himself.
“Anyone know where the hell he was before he went missing?” Piers asked, throwing his arms up in the air.
“Last I saw of him he was outside the building.” One of the men said. “He may still be out there?”
It took a second before Piers was throwing himself out the door and back into the streets. Head whipping back and forth looking for the familiar sight. Walking around the building he could hear some small cries. As much as his husband was his number one priority, he knew he had a job to do, and he had to investigate who was crying.
When he turned the corner of the building he stopped dead in his tracks. There walking towards him was his husband, earpiece missing, a few scratches on his face and holding two small children in his arms.
“Chris?” He whispered, his feet finally moving on their own accord until he finally reached the man he’d been drastically searching for.
“I have eyes on Redfield, he’s safe, I need medical for two small children immediately.”
“Piers, my earpiece malfunctioned.” The older man stated, before sending his lover a small smile. “I found these two gremlins outside the building, they’re fine, just a bit shaken up from the explosion.” He explained, handing the two children towards the medics who appeared out of thin air.
He watched as the three shadows got further before he turned around and launched himself into the older man’s arms. “I thought I lost you! You weren’t answering and then the explosion happened and no one had any eyes on you and –
He was quickly silenced by a pair of lips pressing firmly against his. “I’m here and I’m safe my love. I’m sorry for scaring you, I couldn’t get into contact with you even if I wanted to.” He said, shifting his weight to press their foreheads together. Both men didn’t notice the silent tears that were now slowly falling from both their eyes. They just stood there quietly, just allowing themselves to have this moment before having to get back to their work.
“He’s dead. Part of the building collapsed on him.” Piers whispered, holding onto the larger man’s hands.
“Good riddance.”
“I know you wanted some closure, I’m sorry.”
“He’s gone, you’re safe, I’m safe, he’s not going to hurt anyone else. That’s enough for me baby.”
“Come on, let’s go before they start looking for us.” Piers replied, pulling the man closer and tugged him back towards the front of the building.
It wasn’t a new feeling that the pair had to deal with. With one of them always on high alert about losing the other, the feeling was normal, but that didn’t mean it was a welcomed feeling. It was a feeling that they both hated, but both knew, without it, it would mean that they were no longer linked together. So what? If that meant they had to spend the rest of their days worrying about if the other person wouldn’t come home to them at the end of the night, then that would mean they still had them in their grasps, which meant they still had something to fight for.
It wasn’t going to be an easy ride; the two men knew that the minute they decided that this relationship was worth something. They made peace with the pain if it meant that the pain would go away when they would be reunited.
