Chapter Text
Today has been.. A pretty normal day so far. At least, as normal as it gets in hometown, a town full of monsters. I, of course, am one of the few exceptions to that. And by few, I mean one of TWO. The other is none other than my younger sibling, an interesting creature(while cruel, a very fitting title) named Kris. As odd as they are, I love them, and they love me. Anyways, back to how today is going. Even though today is my first day back from college, it hasn’t been quite.. Eventful. I guess I should just go check on Kris. They’ve been… quiet. I mean, they usually are, but.. More than usual.
I set down my journal, and stood up from the couch. Where could Kris be anyways? Not in the kitchen, not in the Livingroom.. Maybe their room? I decide to head there first, bumping into my mom, Toriel, on the way.
She gasped, turning around with a paw over her mouth. “Oh! I'm so sorry dear, I didn't notice you there! How are you? Is your day going well? Have any plans?”
I let out a small chuckle, then spoke up. “Hi mom. It's okay, I was the one that ran into you. And I'm pretty good, thank you! My day is going well, its just.. Well a bit boring frankly..” I nervously laughed a bit while rubbing the back of my head. “So on that topic, no, I don't really have any plans or ideas on what to do. I was just about to check on Kris honestly.”
“Hm.. well, if you are in need of something to do, i could always use your help at the school? One of my teachers is out for the next few days, and I can't seem to find a suitable substitute. You took teaching classes a few years back in high school, right?”
I stuttered for a moment before I answered. “Oh! Um, I guess I did, yeah. I..” I sighed, rubbing my neck for a moment while I thought about it. “I.. I guess if you really need the help, I could. I would get paid, right?”
She was stunned for a moment before quickly responding. “Y-Yes! Yes, of course you would. I wouldn’t dare to not pay someone working for me, related or not!”
“Sorry, sorry just had to make sure mom. Anyways, I could help you out, would it start tomorrow?” I asked.
She hugged me tightly, squeezing and spinning me around. “Yes! Oh, thank you, thank you my child!” She reluctantly set me down and patted my head.
I giggled and enjoyed the affection for a moment before heading towards the room just in front of us. “You’re welcome mom, but I'm gonna check on Kris now.” I knocked on their door, waiting in front of it for a moment.

They slowly opened it a crack, looking like they just died. When they saw me, they opened the door a bit more to let me in. I quickly spoke up. “So.. Hi. Are you uh.. In the mood to talk?” Silence. I fidgeted around a bit before answering. “I’m gonna.. Take that as a no. I guess I can start then.”
I took a seat on Asriel's bed, the bed of our big brother. It was closer to Kris then my bed was, and I wanted to hear them if they did decide to talk. “I’ve been pretty nervous about coming back home. I feel like I didn't do much at college, at least not enough to get me a good job. But hey, at least mom is giving me pity and letting me sub at the school. Sometimes I wish I could just.. Live in another world. You know?” I let out a lengthy sigh. “Sorry, I know I should appreciate what I've got. It just gets hard sometimes.”
We both sat in silence for a moment before they answered unexpectedly. “I.. understand.”
I turned my head to them, watching them for a moment, before finally mentioning what's been on my mind. “You’ve been.. Silent. I know you usually are, but it just feels different. I’m not saying you have to now, or even ever, but.. If you ever need someone to talk to, I’ll always be here for you.”
They looked away for a moment, seemingly thinking about something. “You’re subbing tomorrow.. Right?” I quickly answered, not wanting to waste them finally talking. “Oh! Yes, for as long as mom needs me too.”
They let out a small hum, before turning back to me, having decided what to do. “Stay after school. Follow me. Don’t worry about mom.” There was no room for disagreement in their tone, they seem extremely determined about this.
I stared at them in shock for a moment before stuttering out an answer. “U-Um.. alright I guess? I won’t get in trouble for this, will I?” They shrug, which only worries me more. “I haven’t.”
I just stare at them for a moment before sighing and shaking my head. “You’re gonna be the death of me.. I’m in.”
