Jirou Kyouka awoke to the sound of thunder in an unusually cold and dark room.
Obviously, she kept her lights off while sleeping, but usually there were few lights from outlets or other things. But not right now.
She sat up quickly, regretting the way the falling bedding exposed her arms to the cold air. She stood and crossed to grab a discarded sweater from her floor before heading out into the hall to investigate the unusual chill. Had Todoroki done something? Or maybe someone had changed the floor's thermostat? The only other one on the floor was Tooru, who also preferred warmer temperatures, so Kyouka doubted it was her. Maybe someone deciding to play a prank?
But, when Kyouka reached the thermostat, the display was off. Try as she might, it would not turn out.
There were also no lights.
As Kyouka was pondering this, she heard a door open and turned.
Tooru stood there, arms crossed. "Cold," she said. "Why?" From the fogginess of her tone, Kyouka figured she must have just woken up.
Kyouka shrugged. "Power outage?"
Tooru sighed. "Great. Well, I hope whatever it is gets fixed soon." With that, she turned back into her room and shut the door. A few moments later, Kyouka heard a flump as Tooru threw herself back onto her bed.
Kyouka stood in the hall for a moment before going downstairs. The teachers were good at making sure to keep them all updated when stuff happened. Aizawa might be down there soon to tell them what was going on.
Kyouka entered the main area of the dorms and discovered Midoriya, Todoroki, and Momo on the couches, covered in blankets. Kyouka grinned without meaning to.
When Momo turned around, there was soft smile on her face. "Kyouka," she greeted.
Kyouka sat down next to her and curled up under the blanket with Momo.
"Your hands are cold," Momo said, putting an arm around her waist and pulling her closer.
Kyouka leaned into her girlfriend, but jerked away when she heard an 'aww' from the other side of the couch.
She forced herself to relax. It was just Midoriya. He definitely wasn't making fun of her, especially not when he was clinging to Todoroki's left side like a koala.
In front of the couch was a battery-powered space heater, probably courtesy of Momo. In no time at all, Kyouka felt not quite warm, but definitely not cold.
A quarter of an hour passed, but there was no Aizawa in sight. Maybe he was busy figuring out the problem? Or maybe it was just their building having problems…
After Kyouka voiced this thought, Midoriya went upstairs and fetched Iida to go run outside and see. It was quite a sight to see. Iida's upper body was completely covered by a sweater and a coat, but he wore shorts. He said the running would warm his legs up. Who was Kyouka to argue with that? If he wanted to run in shorts in the pouring rain, Kyouka wasn't going to stop him.
The four bade him farewell and returned to sitting on the couch.
But this did not last.
"The fridges," Kyouka said.
"What?" Momo said. "Oh. Oh no. Everything in the fridges will spoil."
"We did a grocery run yesterday," Midoriya said. "That's a lot of food…"
"If only there was another way to keep it all co—" Kyouka stopped. Wait. "Todoroki. Do you think you could put enough ice in the fridge to keep everything cold?"
Todoroki stared like he had never considered this. To be fair, he probably hadn't. Kyouka was pretty sure summer camp had been the first time he'd ever cooked anything in his life. He probably hadn't had to think much about fridges.
"That would probably work," Momo said thoughtfully, "But how would we get the ice into all the fridges? People have fridges in their rooms too."
There was quiet for a minute before: "We just need to get into the rooms, right? We could wake them up…. Or… who all actually locks their doors? Most of the boys don't bother."
Kyouka stared at Midoriya. Was he advocating for sneaking in?
"All the girls do," Momo said. She bit her lip for a moment. "…But I do actually have a key that unlocks them all. Class rep thing."
Kyouka rested her head on Momo's shoulder. "We are all so lucky you're nice and would never abuse this power."
Momo laughed softly but stood and pulled Kyouka up with her. From there, it was a simple matter for the four of them to visit every dorm room. First, they'd knock. If the person inside woke up, the four of them were welcomed and thanked for freezing the food, although the enthusiasm of all of these differed.
If the person did not wake up, Momo unlocked the door, Shouto snuck in and froze the food, and they all snuck away after leaving a note to tell the room's inhabitant what they had done.
Kyouka was a bit impressed by who all managed to sleep through this. In a negative way. Aizawa would definitely kill them all for not paying attention to their surroundings.
Before long, they were done and returned to the main room. Some of the classmates they'd woken up were sitting on the couches, enjoying the warmth of Momo's battery-powered heater. The four of them joined the group.
The noise of her classmates was comforting in a way noise hadn't been before UA, Kyouka thought to herself.
She fell asleep quickly.
