Work Text:

"We grew up closer than most

Shared our bed and wore the same clothes"

Doflamingo loved Rosinante. Of course he did- Rosi was his little brother. How could anyone hate a boy with such an adorable face?

But Rosi annoyed Doffy to no end. Even his glaring cuteness couldn't cover up that incessant whining.

"Doffy, will Mother be okay?"

"Big brother, why didn't you give Father our extra fruit? He's hungry! And you ate it all!"

"Dofu, let me go out on my own! I'm big enough now!"

He understood his brother was scared. But so was he. Wasn't that allowed? Couldn't he have feelings too?

Or did he just not matter anymore? Yes, of course Mother still loved them both, but Rosi was the baby of the family now. Naturally he soaked up all of the attention. A greedy little sponge, he was.

Doffy wasn't jealous. He was just angry. Angry at himself, Father, the world. Why did things have to end up this way? Why couldn't he have stayed the baby? Why did Rosi even have to be-

No, he shouldn't think like that. Doffy loved his little brother. He was the one who took care of Rosi after Mother died, not Father. He was the one who got them away from the bad people pestering them, the one who scavenged for food and water.

Though Doffy often woke up starving after giving Rosi his own dinner, after his little brother had complained he was still hungry.

"We grew up closer than most

A parasite needs a host"

Doffy looked down at Rosi's adorable sleeping face. That face was a problem.

Rosi was a problem. Doffy glanced at his own pillow. A voice came to his mind, whispering to just get it over with. He considered it.

He had been considering it for a few nights now. He had gotten close, too. How much easier life would be...

...No, Father was a bigger problem. Doffy would get rid of that one first.

And maybe, just maybe, he loved his smaller problem too much.

"I just want you here with me

(I just want my privacy)"

---

Doflamingo stood over crimson snow.

"God, can't we just get along?

He sighed. All problems solve themselves eventually.

(God, won't you leave me alone?)"

Goodnight, sleeping beauty. When sleep comes for me, I won't wake up next to you.
