Sayo never considered herself to be a nosy person. In fact, she was actively against fishing for another person's personal details. After all, if they didn't want to share their life story with her, then what right did she have to pry it out of them? Besides, she was a guitarist first and foremost. Anything not related to music didn't matter to her that much.
That was, until that phone call.
It was another normal evening at the Hikawa household. Dinner was ready, so Sayo went to call her sister from her room. She moved her hand to the door, but before she could knock-
"Yeah! We should go again next week."
Sayo could hear Hina's muffled voice from the other side. She must have been talking to someone on the phone.
"Okay! See you at work tomorrow," A smile could be heard in her voice, and a moment later, she added,
"Love you too!"
...
What.
What.
She did not mean to eavesdrop on such an intimate(?) moment, but now, Sayo had... multiple questions.
Hina wasn't the type of person to say "love" to a friend. Usually, she'd say something like, "Oh, how interesting!" or "You're a lot of fun!" But this? Was this a prank of some sorts? Was she teasing someone? From her tone, it sounded like she was being genuine. In fact, her voice carried a sincerity that was mostly unknown to Sayo. The last time she heard her like that was when they reconciled over a year ago now.
Then, did that mean...
Hina was in love?
Was her sister really, truly, actually in love?
Sayo clenched her fists. Was her sister dating someone? She couldn't imagine it, but there was no mistaking the warmth with which she spoke on the phone. Still, weren't idols forbidden from dating? The older twin had half a mind to scold her for breaking such a rule... and half a mind to simply be happy for her.
There was a pause in her thoughts. She heard footsteps from inside the room. Thinking quickly, she knocked on the door just as it opened, revealing the younger twin standing on the other side.
"Oh, sis!" Hina looked livelier than usual, "Whatcha doing?"
"I came to tell you that dinner is ready." Sayo tugged at her collar, hoping her sister wouldn't ask how long she'd been standing there.
"'Kay! Let's go, then!"
She practically skipped across their house with boundless cheerfulness. Sayo still stood in place, watching her go with a frown.
She wondered if she should say something, if she should tell Hina to drop this relationship and focus on her band so that they wouldn't get in trouble. But then she remembered the wide smile on Hina's face when she came from her room. With that image stuck in her mind, she sighed.
Sayo had caused her enough pain to last them both a lifetime. If this was what made Hina happy, then she didn't deserve to get in her way.
Still... a pang of sadness shot through her.
Why didn't she tell me?
Sayo, who Hina saw as greater than anyone else in the world, was left in the dark about her sister's relationship. Was it because she thought Sayo wouldn't approve of her partner? Or was it because of some other reason?
Whatever the case, worry began to weigh in on the guitarist's mind.
Despite all of her quirks, Hina was an innocent girl. What if her boyfriend (Scratch that, girlfriend. It seemed fairly obvious.) was a terrible person who was only using her? Or worse, what if her sister's feelings weren't truly love and she was unknowingly leading the other person on?
It was at that moment that she made a decision: She would find out more about Hina's relationship to ease her troubles. It didn't look like Hina would tell her anything, so she needed to proceed with this herself. She felt bad intruding on her sister's private life, but knowing how the younger twin was, perhaps this was for her own good.
Sayo never considered herself to be a nosy person. But to ensure her sister's happiness, she would become whatever she needed to be.
