Rain in my heart

Summary:

Multi is traumatized by the rain, but perhaps for the first time it won't bring bad news.

Work Text:

It was just another day on the island, this time, Multi was alone with Nacho, without Katie's company. To tell the truth, he actually preferred it that way, he still doesn't trust her like he used to, not after she literally sold their kid to a dark entity.

Multi sat on Nacho's bed, patiently waiting for the little egg to fall asleep, a slight smile crossing his face. Who could have imagined that his gray days would become more colorful with the mere presence of a child?

He returned to the reactor, organizing some shelves when the chat displayed a message.

(+) Quackity

Multi's eyes lit up, it had been a few days since he'd seen his boyfriend, since Quackity had been sleeping in the North with a rather worrying frequency. However, he was instantly startled when he heard the faint sound of rain, his hands froze in place.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶?
𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙮: ????????????

He knew that rain was not a good sign, especially since the first time it rained on the island Quackity had disappeared. Could it have happened again? Why isn't he responding?

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘶𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳

Multi didn't wait another second before teleporting north, hurriedly climbing the stairs while feeling the rain soak his white lab coat.

𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶: 𝘐𝘔 𝘍𝘐𝘕𝘌 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘯𝘶𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘵𝘧

— Oh kurwa. — A relieved sigh escaped Multi's lips at the response, quickly picking up the communicator again, more at ease now.

𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶: 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘸𝘯

Multi's heart was still racing as he read the message, but the relief that flooded through him was almost dizzying. The rain was coming down harder now, plastering his dark hair to his forehead and soaking through his coat, but he didn't care. He needed to see Quackity. He needed to touch him, to make sure he was real and safe and here.

He teleported to spawn without a second thought, appearing in the middle of the white plataform with a gliterry sound. The rain was even heavier here, drumming against the wooden roofs and stone paths, creating a symphony of sound that drowned out everything else. And there, right next to him, was Quackity.

He looked... like himself. Handsome, tired, with that wide smile on his face that said "I'm fine" even when he wasn't.

— Multi! — He greeted, before being surprised when Multi crossed the distance between them in quick strides and grabbed his face with both hands.

— You took a while to reply, what happened? Are you good? — His accent became more pronounced when he was nervous, and that only made Quackity feel things he shouldn't be feeling now, not when his boyfriend was trembling with worry.

— I'm fine, I'm fine, I promise. — Quackity's hands came up to wrap around Multi's wrists, thumbs stroking over his rain-chilled skin. — I was just... I was in the middle of something, okay? Lost track of time.

Multi's eyes searched his face, scanning for any hint of a lie, any shadow of something wrong. The rain continued to pour, streaming down both their faces, but neither moved to find shelter.

— You scared me. — Multi's voice was barely audible over the downpour, rough around the edges. — The rain started and you weren't answering and I just—

— I know. — Quackity leaned forward, pressing his forehead against Multi's. — I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you.

They stood there for a moment, breathing each other's air, the rain soaking them both to the bone. One of Multi's hands moved toward Quackity's waist, gripping the fabric of the blue sweatshirt as if fearing he would disappear again.

— Don't do that again. — Multi said, his voice cracking slightly. — Please.

— I won't. — Quackity promised, and there was something vulnerable in his voice that he usually kept hidden behind jokes and bravado. — It's fine. You're not getting rid of me anytime soon.

Multi let out a shaky breath, and then he was pulling Quackity closer, crashing their lips together in a desperate kiss. It was messy and wet and perfect, rain sliding between their mouths as they clung to each other. Quackity made a surprised sound against his lips before melting into it, his hands tangling in Multi's soaked hair.

When they finally broke apart, they were both breathing hard, foreheads still pressed together.

— You're such a drama queen. — Quackity laughed, but it was soft, fond.

— And you're an idiot who doesn't answer his communicator. — Multi shot back, but there was no heat in it. Just exhaustion, relief, and something soft that he'd never admit to out loud.

— Come on — Quackity said softly, pulling back just enough to take Multi's hand. — Let's get inside before you catch a cold, Mr. Needyoureply.

Multi snorted, but he let himself be led toward the waystone back to the polski cave. The rain continued to fall behind them, washing away the fear and the worry, if only for tonight.

Maybe tomorrow they wouldn't be able to sit together by the fire, maybe tomorrow they wouldn't be able to steal kisses from each other, but today, just today, the rain felt like home.
