Chapter Text
It is freshman orientation for Coy's high school. It is a big day for him, but he doesn’t think so. All Coy wants to do is be in his room and ponder his thoughts.
“Ugh do I really have to be here?” Coy questioned.
His new teacher overheard Coy and huffed, “Yes unfortunately we both do, not many of the teachers even wanted to come today.”
Coy heard this excitedly as he thought it was another student but to his surprise it was just his new english teacher Ms. Shirley. Suddenly the whole freshman class was flooding into the auditorium for the orientation assembly. It was here Coy would be sat next to Hannah Bondalo, or as her friends call her Hanbon.
Coy seemed interested in Hanbon but not in an ‘i like her’ way but in an ‘i’ve had no friends since 7th grade’ way.
Hanbon also seemed interested in Coy but in a ‘omg i could make a new friend right now’ way.
They both tried to introduce themselves before the presentation started but only got a few words about themselves.
Coy explained that he is in the theater department and has been since 5th grade.
Hanbon was intrigued and asked if he was going to try out for the play this year.
Coy beamed at this statement as he didn’t know there was even one happening, upon this realization Coy obviously said yes.
Hanbon responded that she has been in the art department since she could remember and has even had some of her pieces up in the local art museum!
After Hanbon talked about her art Coy had no time to respond as the presentation was starting.
They both found the presentation absurdly boring and even yawned at the same time which made them both laugh, but the principal had to shut them up so other students could hear.
After the presentation it was time to meet all of the teachers and practice walking to each class. During the presentation Coy and Hanbon realized they both have the same 1st and 2nd period, so they could stick together at least for the morning.
Coy is at least happy he made a friend today.
By 3rd period both were exhausted and had to part ways they said their goodbyes. Coy went to his 3rd period which is Ms. Shirley’s english class and Coy couldn’t help but notice the guy in front of him, while he didn’t know his name, Coy knew they might be able to become friends within the school year.
His next class after lunch was his favorite, theater nothing could throw him off in this class right? Except when he realized that guy from his english class is also in this class which he found odd because at first glance he doesn’t seem like a theater kid.
Once school is over Coy goes home and marvels about who that guy in his english and theater classes was.
About a month into the school year the audition sign up sheet was up for the schools fall play of ‘a midsummer night’s dream’, he knew he wanted to audition for Lysander, so he wrote his name next to Lysander and waited for auditions.
Once auditions roll around a few weeks later Coy is met by surprise because of the mysterious boy in his english and theater classes. He auditioned for Hermia as if he wanted to get to know Coy better.
The cast list came out a week or two later and read
CAST LIST:
Lysander: Coy Piso
Hermia: Anthony Potero
Demetrius: Will Mahony
Helena: Hannah Bondalo
Coy finally knew the mystery boy’s name which was Anthony.
The play come and went by so fast that it was already the end of February and Coy still only had one real friend in Hanbon. He decides it’s a good idea to go to the doctor about his mental health since he has been feeling down ever since starting high school.
At the appointment the doctor asks Coy what feels like millions of hours but in fact was only around 15 minutes. The doctors examined his results and after around 20 minutes of waiting it is revealed Coy got a 0 on the depression test. He found this surprising but kept that to himself.
Coy went through the rest of his freshman year more depressed even after the doctor appointment. He didn’t think anything of this since the doctors aka the experts said he didn’t have depression but he was still unsure even months later.
Suddenly it’s already June, Coy has only truly made one friend this year being Hanbon. He plans to try to make more friends next year as this wasn’t a great way to start high school, but it only goes up from here I guess…?!
