Twisted Monster Wonderland

Summary:

A Monster High-inspired Twisted Wonderland AU where monsters, normies, magic, and mixed ancestries coexist. This work is mainly a worldbuilding/reference guide for my AU rather than a story. Feel free to create fanart, fanfics, theories, or other content based on it as long as you credit/tag me. Questions are always welcome!

Note: English is not my native language, so there may be mistakes.

Notes:

I've had that idea for months.
And suddenly I found the courage to publish it (・_・;)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: AU Introduction

Twisted Wonderland: Monster AU

(Or something like that)

Complete World Explanation

To understand this alternate universe, you need to start with one important idea:

This is still Twisted Wonderland.

It is not Monster High.

It is not a fusion where the original elements disappear.

The laws of magic, history, kingdoms, the Great Seven, noble families, Unique Magic, NRC, RSA, and practically the entire political and social structure still exist.

What changes is the way people’s biology is understood.

The world is still Twisted Wonderland

Magic remains a natural force of the world.

Some people are born capable of using magic while others are not, and this concept remains unchanged.

Magical ability is still something determined at birth and developed through training.

That is why the following still exist:

Mages.

People without magic.

Unique Magic.

Magical overload (Overblot).

Magic-powered technology.

Magical schools.

The difference is that the population is now divided into much more complex biological categories.

The Biological System

Society classifies people into three different levels.

Many people get confused because they think these are the same thing, which is not true.

First Level: Base Species

This is the most important level.

Every person belongs to one of the four major categories.

Human

Common terrestrial beings.

Beastman

People with animal traits.

Merfolk

Inhabitants adapted to life in the sea.

Fairy

Beings deeply connected to magic.

These four categories are equivalent.

None is a subspecies of another.

None is considered biologically superior.

They are simply the four major groups of civilization.

They can still have different lineages within these classifications, just like in canon.

Examples:

Rabbit beastman

Buffalo beastman

Eel merfolk

Dragon fairy

Bat fairy

Among others

Second Level: Normie or Monster

Here an important concept appears.

A normie is someone who does NOT possess monstrous ancestry.

For example:

Normie human.

Normie beastman.

Normie merfolk.

Normie fairy.

They still have their normal racial characteristics.

A normie fairy is still a fairy.

A normie merfolk is still a merfolk.

A normie beastman still has ears and a tail.

They simply do not possess monstrous blood.

Now, the classification of "Monster"

It usually indicates that someone has monstrous ancestry, although this term does not specify exactly what kind of monstrous ancestry they have, which is why it is not commonly used.

Third Level: Monstrous Ancestry

This is where the biggest difference from canon Twisted Wonderland appears.

Monstrous creatures exist as biological lineages.

For example:

Vampires.

Mummies.

Gargoyles.

Krakens.

Ghosts.

Headless Riders.

Werewolves.

Voodoo Dolls.

Zombies.

And many more.

These ancestries do NOT replace the base species.

They are added to it.

For example:

A person is not simply a vampire.

They can be:

Human vampire.

Fairy vampire.

Merfolk vampire.

Beastman vampire.

Monstrous ancestry modifies biology but does not replace the primary category.

How Genetics Work

Genetics are quite unusual.

Base species and monstrous ancestries are inherited separately.

This means a person can inherit characteristics from both parents at the same time.

For example:

If a monster fairy has children with a normie fairy,

the child will still be:

100% fairy.

But they will inherit only part of the monstrous ancestry.

The base species usually remains intact.

Monstrous ancestries are the traits that mix and divide.

That is why there are people with extremely complex heritages.

Someone could be:

Half human.

Half beastman.

And also possess:

Vampire blood.

Naga blood.

Ghost blood.

All simultaneously.

Monsters Are Not Rare

This is another huge difference.

Monsters are not secret.

They do not live in hiding.

They are not legends.

They are ordinary citizens.

They work.

They study.

They have families.

They have social media accounts.

They pay taxes.

They graduate.

They go grocery shopping.

The difference is that some species are more common than others.

For example:

A vampire family can be perfectly well known.

A mummy family may be centuries old.

A demigod lineage may be extremely prestigious.

The normie population knows monsters exist.

It is not a worldwide secret.

However, there is still a great deal of ignorance.

It is similar to knowing another country exists.

You know it is there.

But you do not necessarily understand how it works.

Because of that, stereotypes, rumors, misunderstandings, false beliefs, and prejudice are common.

Night Raven College

NRC remains the most prestigious magical academy.

The difference is that it is now known as an academy for magic-using monsters and magic users.

Individuals belonging to hundreds of different species study here; some are normies, while others possess monstrous ancestries.

Magic still functions exactly the same way as in canon.

Students channel magic through magestones and magical tools.

Unique Magic still exists.

Overblots still exist.

Classes still exist.

Dorm rivalries still exist.

The difference is that students must now also coexist with biological abilities.

For example:

One student might be able to walk through walls because they are a ghost.

Another might be able to take their body apart because they are a skeleton.

Another might be able to freeze things because they are a yeti.

Among many other examples.

That is not magic.

That is biology.

The Difference Between Magic and Racial Abilities

This is probably the most important rule in the universe.

Magic

It is magical energy, consumes magical power, can become exhausted, can cause blot, and can be trained.

Basically the normal system.

Now, racial abilities

They are biological, part of the body, do not consume magic, do not generate blot, and do not depend on a magical stone.

For example:

A ghost passing through a wall.

A werewolf with enhanced senses of smell.

A kraken using its tentacles.

All of those are natural abilities.

Nobility and Politics

Nobility still exists.

Kingdoms still exist.

Powerful families still exist.

But now some families are also famous for their monstrous lineages.

For example:

An ancient dragon family.

A demigod lineage.

A noble house of vampires.

A dynasty of mummies.

A naga clan.

This can affect:

Prestige.

Marriages.

Politics.

Inheritance.

Traditions.

Merfolk

Merfolk remain one of the four base species.

They live primarily in the sea.

But they can also possess monstrous ancestries.

That is why there are:

Zombie merfolk.

Vampire merfolk.

Ghost merfolk.

And many other variants.

Fairies

Fairies remain deeply magical and culturally distinct from humans.

But they can also possess monstrous ancestries.

For example:

Fairies.

Vampire fairies.

Ghost fairies.

Beastmen

Beastmen continue to be an independent species.

But they can now combine with monstrous ancestries.

For example:

Werewolf beastman.

Sand monster beastman.

Voodoo doll beastman.

Humans

Humans remain one of the main species.

And some possess monstrous ancestries.

For example:

Human vampire.

Human ghost.

Human naga.

Human mummy.

The Special Case of Yuu

Yuu is an anomaly.

Because they do not belong to this world.

Just like in canon, Yuu comes from a completely different universe.

In which:

Magic does not exist.

Monsters do not exist.

Fairies do not exist.

Beastmen do not exist.

Merfolk do not exist.

Therefore, Yuu is simply:

A normie human without magic.

Nothing more.

No monstrous blood.

No special abilities.

No racial powers.

No magic.

Yuu is simply a person, and ironically that makes them stand out more than many monsters.

In Summary

This universe can be described as:

A Twisted Wonderland where magic, kingdoms, history, and institutions remain intact, but where society is structured around four base species (humans, beastmen, merfolk, and fairies), each of which may or may not possess hereditary monstrous ancestry. Racial abilities exist alongside magic, but they are completely separate systems. Monsters are a normal part of society, while Yuu remains the only visitor from a completely ordinary world without magic and without monsters.

Notes:

Ghosts and monster ghosts are different species.
