Chapter 1: The void inside

Chapter Text

Click, clack, click, clack. Shoes echoed in the dark space. The dark room. Unsure if it was even a room, it could just be a space that went on forever. Kiku shivered, attempting to make himself move forward despite how freezing he was. He had no idea where he was — he thought death was supposed to be relaxing! Not a long walk in an infinite black void.

Kiku sighed softly, rubbing his arms to keep cold. Maybe he should have worn a long sleeved shirt and some pants, because he was utterly freezing right now. At least he wasn’t near his twin — who called himself Kuro. Very close to his name, it was unsettling. He was the whole reason Kiku even decided to die.

Kiku continued his endless walk in the void, unaware of the approaching Kuro. Speaking of Kuro, the 2P was tiptoeing behind Kiku, making sure to make no sound whatsoever. He even tried not to breathe, though that's impossible to do so he just made sure it was quiet. How Kuro was going to love scaring Kiku shitless. Kuro placed his hands on Kiku’s shoulders lightly. Kiku immediately spun around, attempting to kick Kuro in the side. Kuro being well…Kuro, he quickly grabbed Kiku’s leg, putting it down with mocking care.

“Kiku, my dear friend! How great it is to see you again!” Kuro looked at Kiku with sly eyes, slightly annoyed because his 1P counterpart had tried to attack him. After all, Kuro had a bad temper.

“Kuro.” Kiku took a few steps back, looking at Kuro nervously, meeting the 2P’s gaze once, immediately looking down at the pitch black floor. Fuck. Kiku ended his life to escape this man, this hallucination. He didn’t want Kuro to join him in death, too!

“So, how's life been?” Kuro crossed his arms. “Oh, right! You ended that pathetic thing you called your life! And I thought you had more willpower…”

“Be quiet.” Kiku hissed, turning around so his back faced his 2P’s counterpart. “I don’t want to hear your voice right now.”

Kuro’s smile twitched. His eyes narrowed even more. Kiku just loved poking Kuro, didn’t he? He took a couple steps forward, placing his hand on Kiku’s shoulder, squeezing it slightly, showing he was in control. “Why so harsh, Kiku-chan~? I didn’t make you mad, did I?”

“Please, let me think for a moment, Kuro.” Kiku wanted to swat Kuro’s hand off his shoulder, to walk away. But Kiku wasn't dumb. He saw the katana on the man's belt, and he knew Kuro wouldn’t be afraid to impale Kiku right then. Even so, Kiku found delight in pissing off the red-eyed Japanese.

“Kiiii-kuuu, what is there to think about? You’re dead! You’re pathetic, worthless life is over. No use in thinking now when your real brain is rotting. Just calm down~” Kuro said in a sing-song tone, placing his other hand on Kiku’s other shoulder to rock him back and forth slowly

Kiku tried to stay calm, tried to think about anything else other than the annoying man behind him. He then continued to walk forward, like he was before Kuro snuck up on him. He shivered once again, glancing around at the empty void. He looked behind him at Kuro, who basically disappeared in the void because of his black outfit and hair. Kuro was a little surprised once Kiku started walking away, freeing for a moment. Once the shock passed, Kuro sped up, catching up to Kiku. “Kiiii-kuuu!! Wait for me!” Kiku sped up, trying to avoid the man.

“Kiku!” Kuro yelled, becoming more annoyed by the second.

Ignored. Kiku continued to speed walk away from Kuro.

“Kiku.” Kuro unsheathed his sword, glaring at his 1P counterpart, the edge of his blade grazing Kiku’s neck. Kiku stopped dead in his tracks. “Turn around and face me, you coward.” Kiku hesitantly turned around to face Kuro, looking at him with fear in his expression.

Kuro laughed slightly at the sight of Kiku’s horrified expression, enjoying being in control. His eyes narrowed at Kiku, adjusting the sword in his grip. “Good, good. You don’t want to make me too angry, do you? Say sorry”

“S-sorry.” Kiku muttered, his eyes zeroed in on the sword, his hands reaching for the sword he didn't have unconsciously. His breathing was labored and he was shaking slightly. Kiku didn’t even know why he was shaking. He was already dead, why was he scared? Not like he could die again. Kuro sheathed his sword, still staring at Kiku with that unsettling smirk of his.

Suddenly, Kiku felt light headed, falling to the ground with a thud. He felt so weak, when moments ago he felt just fine…ugh. Was this the after effects of death? Kiku looked up at Kuro, who was standing next to him, leaned over slightly.

“Nighty, night, Kiku…” Kuro crouched down, smiling eerily at Kiku. “Sweet dreams…” Kuro used his pointer and middle to push Kiku’s eye lids down. Sweet, sweet revenge. For nothing — this wasn't really revenge. All 1Ps and 2Ps were bound to hate each other from the get-go.

Kiku tried to open his eyes once Kuro took his fingers off his eyelids, but he just couldn't. Is he going to heaven? More like hell for the things him and his country did…oh god. Kiku was falling asleep. Could you even fall asleep when you're dead? Am I just going to become nothing? Will there be a new personification? What will happen…to me…? Were the last thoughts running through Kiku’s head before consciousness left him.

Kuro continued to crouch over Kiku’s body, continuing to smile eerily. How quant. He thought it would be harder than this. Turns out, it was a piece of cake. Kuro couldn’t believe how easy it was — he really spent time worrying over this? He hummed, taking off his white gloves calmly. He then scratched his finger with his nail, unbothered. He did the same to Kiku. He rubbed their bleeding thumbs together

Kuro closed his eyes, and all of a sudden he felt pressure on his neck, strangling him. But actually, this feeling wasn't so sudden at all. Kuro expected it. Kuro knew what he was doing. This was his plan all along. Kuro opened his eyes and swung back and forth slowly, picking up speed. He knew exactly how to break this rope. And if you just-

SNAP. BANG.

Kuro hit the floor with a loud bang, sitting up as he rubbed his head. He took the broken noose off his head. He heard a loud, surprised “ARU?!” from the kitchen. He only knew one person who said that. Yao was here, in Kiku’s house. Yao has memorized Kiku’s personality because of how much time he’s spent with the man. Kuro’s and Kiku’s personalities were polar opposites…it was going to be a pain in the ass to act like Kiku, Kuro thought.
