Chapter Text
„Dude wake up you're going to be late for the first day of school.”
Is what Wemmbu heard as he was woken up by someone shaking him. Did he not set an alarm?
„I’m up Egg, I’m up.” He answered groggily.
Eggchan looked at him with suspicion as if he was going to fall asleep as soon as he leaves but as he made sure Wemmbu was actually awake he let go of him.
„Come on, you promised Minute you wouldn’t be late, he’s making breakfast.” He added as he was leaving the room.
He got up with a sigh, the first days of school year were the worst, having to adjust to the early waking hours was practically torture, at least in his opinion. He didn't get how others could willingly get up even earlier.
He got up from his bed with a yawn and looked around his purple walled room before his eyes landed on the mirror; at least his hair wasn’t to bad, he didn’t have time nor energy to straighten it today.
Wemmbu made his way to his wardrobe, picking out some clothes he deemed good enough for today and made his way to the bathroom. As soon as he stepped out into the upstairs hallway the scent of Minute’s cooking made itself apparent, alongside Spoke’s loud ass.
He thought about his older adopted brother as he brushed his hair.
He didn’t get how this guy had so much energy so early, he was practically bouncing off of walls 24/7 and although he’s lived with him for the past 10 years, the guy still weirded him out sometimes.
„Good morning!”
Wemmbu yelled as he walked downstairs now refreshed and a bit less sleepy; dressed in a white t-shirt, baggier black sweatpants and a gray hoodie with his hair tied back in a high ponytail, carrying his backpack in one hand. He was met with an answer in the form of Spoke tackling him with a hug.
„GOOD MORNING WEMM!!”
Wemmbu looked around the room as he wriggled out of the embrace and gave the older boy a playful shoulder punch; Minute was sitting down at the table where Egg was already seated with plates of food already set.
„Good morning Wemmbu”
Minute said with a small smile as Spoke bounced over to the table.
„Did you sleep well?”
„As well as I could having to wake up at this hour.”
Minute nodded at him as Wemmbu sat down and started with his breakfast; it was a simple albeit a tasty one, curtesy of Minute being the one cooking – scrambled eggs with bacon and a toast.
As soon as Spoke finished his breakfast the guy practically bolted through the door shouting something about his friends waiting for him and a quick "see ya!" before he was gone.
Wemmbu and Egg followed soon after cleaning up and saying their goodbyes as well. The dragon and angel duo made their way for the bus, their new school wasn’t that far but taking the bus was still better than walking, especially in the colder weather of September.
The ride to school was loud, chatter spilling from every corner. Looking around, Wemmbu thought some of the people here looked a bit too excited to go back to school, he thought the high school bus would be quieter, maybe not a lot of people knowing eachother, maybe a lot of freshmen like them but it seemed like the majority of students here definitively have friends already, he wondered how many people here were actually new.
He felt a wing wrap around him slightly and he shifted his gaze to Egg, seeing his brother's head turned, eyes covered by his bangs like usual, looking out the window seemingly deep in his thoughts, he sighed but ultimately did the same. The morning rides were usually quieter between them, it was too early to yap about whatever.
Wemmbu thought back to the first time he went to school with Egg during the start of elementary; he was adopted about half a year before that so he was somewhat adjusted to the new surroundings and new family. He was glad that Egg was his age, someone relatively normal to talk to with Spoke either yapping his ears off or constantly wanting attention and Minute's coddling.
He remembers when they brought him in well; in contrast to anything from his biological family. He remembers meeting Egg, who he honestly thought was a nerd at first, somewhat timid and making their first meeting quite awkward.
His opinion of Egg didn't change much, his younger self was right about the guy being a nerd and stuff but as they grew to be really close Egg started opening up and he turned out to be a pretty funny and sometimes quite a loud guy. He remembers Minute joking that they were attached at the hip, which was honestly more true than he'd like to admit.
Spoke was a completely different story, despite being only two years older he looked at him like he was a toddler or something. He wanted to play with Wemmbu constantly, either that or to talk to him constantly. At first he wasn't sure how to respond, such a beacon of energy when your trying to adjust to a completely new surrounding and people knowing you won't go back to where you were for the entirety of your albeit short life can be overwhelming but after a few bruises, cries and bitings it turned out alright, especially with Minute acting as a shield of calm when it all was too much for Wemmbu.
He got thrown out of his train of thoughts by the feeling of the weight on his back shifting, Wemmbu blinked twice and looked at Egg, he was still staring out the window; looking around the bus it didn't look like anything has quieted down nor like they were arriving just yet.
"Yo Egg." He poked at his brother's shoulder.
"What's up?" Egg replied visibly snapped out of his thoughts
"What do you think our new class is going to be like?"
"I dunno man, I just hope they're going to be better than our last."
"Yeah hopefully I won't have to beat up more noobs!"
They both chuckled at the reminder as the bus came to a halt and the sea of people began spilling out towards the building. They waited until most of the crowd left before making way to the exit themselves.
"Didn't Spoke say that he'd guide us around today?" Egg reminded as he looked around looking for the mist of void and rainbows.
"Uhh I think so?? Who knows he might've forgotten." Wemmbu shrugged.
"Actually, I don't think he did" Egg added as he spotted and waved back to Spoke who stood waving them over near the entrance.
Wemmbu was honestly relieved that most Spoke did was jump and wave at them; when he offered to guide them around he honestly thought the guy would show up in a full on costume or with a sign or pom poms or something.
"HI HI HI!! Are you guys ready to head inside?? Experience the new and exciting world of the wonder that is Blestaun High with the help of the BEST most AMAZING and GREATEST GUIDE EVER??!!" He exclaimed dramatically.
"Yeah sure show us around this dump" Wemmbu said as Egg chuckled at Spoke's theatrics.
The three brothers headed inside with the sea of people; weaving through groups as Spoke explained everything. The tour was methodically done with the nice detail of their oldest mentioning where which of their class was alongside giving tips or trivia about the teachers since he apparently got a look into their schedule. The school was surprisingly big, with it's unassuming entrance Wemmbu didn't expect this much. Spoke's guidance was definitely necessary.
Besides noting locations of the more important rooms — different offices such as the principal's or the nurse's, the gym and a class here and there, Wemmbu honestly zoned out for like half of the tour.
... yeah he would definitely need Egg's help getting around while they adjusted to this place; he always remembered necessary things.
They made it to their first class just as the bell rang which visibly upset Spoke as he pouted about not having time to introduce them to his friends; Wemmbu brushed him off saying that they'll do that later before parting ways and Spoke bolting to wherever he needed to be.
"Did you get all that?" Egg questioned as they entered and picked seats roughly in the back middle of the classroom.
"From the tour?"
"Yeah"
"...not really, I mean I got the important stuff! but the rest... eh" Wemmbu shrugged.
"Figured, good at least one of us paid attention"
"Hey-!" Wemmbu started but before they could banter more the teacher entered and the lesson started.
The first days of school were always the most boring to Wemmbu, trying to make an alright first impression and somewhat avoid using his phone, every lesson being practically the same, the teachers going over the same basic stuff over and over again; he might as well look over his classmates as they yap. He noticed that there was a surprising amount of people with aquatic heritage, at least to him, the most he saw anyone resembling a fish was at the start of middle school with one friend of his before they moved, but here sat a blonde with ear fins, a guy with slick black hair that covered like half his face with fina as well and what he thought was an axolotl hybrid? Huh.
Of course as always a lot of people with demonic traits, as one would suspect from how strongly genes from that particular species usually showed, as well as a few other random uninteresting noobs.
By the end of the school day Wemmbu was starting to fall asleep, the repetitive babbling of teachers about the same start-of-the-year topics and somehow not running into Spoke in between classes made the day almost unbearable, even with Egg around but as he was about to loose it, thankfully he got saved by the mercy of the bell.
As the class scattered he and Egg spotted Spoke in a small group of people, well, more so Spoke spotted them as he yelled out for them to come over. From what he could see as they came over the group consisted of their brother as well as Mapicc, whom they knew already from how much the guy came over, being Spoke's best friend and all and a colorful bird guy he doesn't think he's seen before.
"Wemmbu!! Egg!! I was just talking about you two!!" Spoke exclaimed as Mapicc waved to them.
"Yo what's up?" Wemmbu replied.
"Not much but here! This is my friend Parrot, I don't think you three met before!"
"Hi. I've heard a lot about you two, nice to meet you." Said the bird guy - Parrot, which looking at him Wemmbu deducted that his parents definitely didn't think too creatively when naming him.
"It's nice to meet you too." Said Egg with a small smile as Wemmbu nodded in agreement.
After the pleasantries the conversation spiraled into them talking about the day before the bell rang again and Spoke alongside his friends needed to go to their next class. Wemmbu was glad that he didn't have to sit here as long as them, temporary perks of being younger. With a ruffling of hair much to the dismay of Wemmbu they parted ways and he alongside Egg made their way back home.
As they walked through the front door Wemmbu threw his backpack on the floor with a sigh and greeted Minute who was still working at his laptop in the living room.
"How was school?" Minute asked.
"It was fine, boring but fine." Wemmbu answered.
"Yeah Spoke gave us a tour of the school but besides that it was pretty boring." Chimed in Egg.
"I guess you didn't meet anyone new then too, did anybody among your classmates catch your attention?"
"I guess there were a few interesting looking people, but nothing too interesting really." Shrugged Wemmbu.
"Hm, I think you should make some friends, I know you and Egg have eachother but I think you should have friends beyond your brothers."
"Yeah yeah whatever, we'll do that later."
"Well I hope there's at least one person that's alright in this class" added Egg.
"I'm sure there is. I'll make dinner after I finish working, I'll call you down."
"Alright, thanks Minute!" Said Wemmbu, brightening slightly at the mention of Minute's cooking, then he grabbed his discarded backpack and went upstairs alongside Egg.
The rest of the day went pretty normally, Spoke got back, they ate dinner and the rest of the day was free time which Wemmbu spent on his phone.
Wemmbu thought about Minute's words and his class as he laid in bed, his rgb led strips turned on emitting a warm orangey colour; his thoughts turned to the fish folks, one of them looked familiar but he couldn't place his finger on why, but he decided that it wasn't that important for now. He'd think about it tomorrow, maybe even talk to some other people from his class, but for now he just went to sleep.
