Work Text:
The needle slides through silk like water. Lan Wangji's stitches are precise, meticulous, each one being a meditation. Across the table, Wei Wuxian is less patient, stabbing her fabric with theatrical frustration.
"Lan Zhan, this is impossible. How do you make it look so easy?"
Lan Wangji doesn't answer, but her lips twitch. She reaches over, guiding Wei Wuxian's hand, steadying the needle. Their fingers tangle.
"You press here," she murmurs.
Wei Wuxian watches her, not the silk.
Later, they exchange their work. Lan Wangji has embroidered a cluster of lotuses, which is Wei Wuxian's favorite flower. Wei Wuxian has stitched a clumsy but earnest rabbit, its ears too long.
Beneath both designs, hidden in the threads, each has woven a single strand of their own hair into the other's cloth.
"So I'm always with you," Wei Wuxian says, voice soft.
Lan Wangji lifts the fabric to her lips. "Always."
