Preparing for the Hunt

Summary:

H'aanit and Primrose had a small fight over Primrose accompanying H'aanit on a dangerous mission. Will H'aanits fear of losing Primrose triumph over the love and trust they have built?

Notes:

This is a short fic for Day 4! I didn't get to prepare much but I had a small surge of inspiration and wrote this. I wanted to focus on the events before the hunt, so sorry but not hunt here today... But I might write a sequel in the future if inspirations strikes again haha.
Hope you enjoy this little fic!

Work Text:

H'aanit was sent out to hunt an incredibly dangerous beast, one that even if it were not as formidable as the Redeye, it still proved to be a risky hunt. Primrose had decided to join her, to H'aanit's protests.

"Thou can't come with me." H'aanit told Primrose, "This beast is dangerous."

"Aww, you're worried about me." Primrose teased, "But don't worry, you know I can take care of myself."

"I know that very well, but thy training has not yet been sufficient for thou to participate in a hunt of this importance." H'aanit grabbed Primrose's hands, holding them tight, "I don't want thou to get hurt in the heat of battle."

Primrose looked away, clearly offended, "After everything we've gone through together, do you not trust me?" Primrose sounded somewhat hurt.

"It's not that, I trust thee with my life." H'aanit sighed, "But I do not trust myself with thine."

"Then let my life be in my hands." Primrose caressed H'aanit's cheek.

"I knoweth thee good enough to know that thou won't heed my warnings." H'aanit showed a defeated smile, "Promise me thou will leave the moment things turn quite dangerous."

"And leave you and Linde alone? I think not." Primrose chuckled, giving H'aanit a small kiss on her cheek before leaving to her room, "Let me change into something more 'hunt' appropriate." she chuckled before disappearing to the other side of the door.

H'aanit sat down and sighed, petting Linde while she waited for Primrose. She did trust her, but she was also terrified to loose her. They had just begun dating quite recently, after Primrose's numerous attempts to court her.

H'aanit remembered the day they started dating clearly. It was a year after they had traveled together, all of her travel companions had gotten together to tell stories and reminiscence of their travels. It was during one of those conversations when one of them, the young merchant Tressa, said something that caught H'aanit off-guard.

"Hey Primrose, did you and H'aanit ever go on a date or something of the sort?" Tressa asked curiously, "I remember you two flirting a lot but I don't know if that went anywhere. I'm curious!"

H'aanit's looked shocked, she then directed her eyes towards Primrose, "Thou were flirting with me?"

Primrose chuckled, "Of course I was. Your obliviousness to it was cute, even if it did get a bit annoying at certain points."

"Please forgive me, I did not know thou feltest like that." H'aanit blushed, she felt a bit ashamed she did not notice Primrose's feelings after they had spent a lot of time together.

"Ah, don't worry about." She let out a small chuckle, "We had our fun. I also tend to flirt with anybody, so don't think too much about it."

H'aanit took a deep breath, in truth, she also shared feelings for Primrose, but her mission to save her master took priority over everything else, and even after completing that mission, so much had happened she couldn't find a good time to confess her feelings. She was also quite oblivious to Primrose's advances, and thus, was unsure if she would feel the same. Even now, her words told a story different to her face and body language. There was only one way H'aanit would know for sure what Primrose's feelings were.

"I like thou as well, if thou still likest me." H'aanit felt a bit nervous confessing, she wasn't good at romance. The confession took Primrose by surprise, but she was able to compose herself again, showing a little smirk. Even if her face projected a seductive confidence, her cheeks were bright red.

"Of course I still like you." Primrose chuckled.

"Awww, congratulations you two!!" Tressa exclaimed, she seemed to be even happier than the two women.

Primrose and H'aanit laughed, sharing a look between them.

Primrose came out of her room, she was wearing a hunter outfit similar to H'aanit's.

"Thou look beautiful." H'aanit couldn't help but say.

"Thank you, I still had this piece from that one time you tried to teach me how to be a hunter." Primrose let out a light chuckle.

"Ah, yes, I do remember that. Thou did well." H'aanit nodded.

"Then wouldn't you say I'm ready for a task like this? I have the training." Primrose put her hands on her hips.

H'aanit thought for a moment, "That is truth, but like I said before, thou still have much to learn."

"Then this is the perfect opportunity for that H'aanit!" Primrose was a bit mad, she then went to sit with H'aanit, petting Linde as well. "Ever since we've started dating, I feel as if you trust me less…" Primrose sighed.

"It's not that!" H'aanit sense she had hurt Primrose's feelings, "I wasn't there to protect Master, what if I'm not there to protect thou?"

Primrose gently held both of H'aanit's hands, "Your Master is fine, you were able to defeat the Redeye and bring him back. If something like that were to happen to me, I'm sure you'll do the same to me." Primrose gave her a reassuring smile.

"That time we were lucky it was reversible…" H'aanit sighed, "What if thy condition isn't?"

"Then think how I feel, you go out on dangerous hunts almost everyday." Primrose looked straight into H'aanit's eyes, "What if something like happens to you? What if me accompanying you would have stopped that from happening, what then?"

"Thou must trust that I won't let that happen… I have Linde with me." H'aanit said with a determined look.

"Then trust me that I won't let that happen either." Primrose leaned in for a small kiss, "Please, my love, let me accompany you, at least just this once."

H'aanit sighed after the kiss, "I cannot trust myself with thy safety. So please promise me thou will not do anything rash."

"You already made me promise." Primrose chuckled.

"I need thou to promise it again." H'aanit kept a straight face.

"I promise, but you have to promise me the same." Primrose stood up.

"I promise thee." H'aanit said with a smile as she did the same, "I love thee, Primrose."

Primrose chuckled, "I love you too H'aanit. Now, let's get ready to hunt that beast."
