Work Text:
Kazuichi sneaked around the convenience store, looking for something fun to do.
Oh cool, a four person canoe!!!
Usually they only fit three!
Kazuichi grabbed it instantly, taking it back to his cottage.
"Hey guys!!!" Kazuichi grinned, waltzing up to Fuyuhiko, Hajime and... Uh. Nagito.
"Hey, Kaz." Fuyuhiko said.
"Hi, Kazuichi." Hajime smiled.
"Hello, Kazuichi!!!" Nagito said in his overly sweet tone.
Kazuichi sat down with the three.
"So, found anything cool?" Fuyuhiko asked, crossing his legs.
"I found a four person canoe!!" Kazuichi smiled, looking extremely proud of himself.
"A four person canoe?" Hajime asked, "I thought they were only for three people..."
"Yeah, that's what I thought too!" Kazuichi said, "Guess the convenience store Gods thought otherwise, heh."
Kazuichi led the others to his cottage.
It was extremely messy. With scrap machinery and equipment crudely strewn around... He'd clean it later.
He showed them the four people canoe.
"Woah, never thought you could fit so many people on a canoe...!" Nagito said in his unnerving tone, "Hehehe, I just can't wait to go in it..!"
Hajime nodded, resting his head on Nagito's shoulder, "Yeah, I hope it isn't too windy..."
"If it's windy I'm breaking all of your shins before you can even think of getting in." Fuyuhiko said, "It's best to be safe."
"Heh, I really hope it isn't windy..." Kazuichi chucked, looking out his window.
It didn't look windy at all.
That's good.
"I-if m-
Before Nagito could speak any further, Hajime put a finger to his mouth.
"It'll be ok, Nagito." He said.
Nagito held onto Hajime's arm.
"Well, we should get going before I really do have to break all your shins." Fuyuhiko threatened, pushing everyone, and the canoe, outside.
Kazuichi loved the scent of the ocean, it felt so calming and serene...
Fuyuhiko stepped forward.
"Hey, Kaz, you got any life jackets?" Fuyuhiko asked.
"Oh, uh, no..." Kazuichi responded.
Fuyuhiko wasn't very happy with that.
They all now have life jackets after life threats.
They all decided on who would sit where.
Fuyuhiko would be in front, followed by Kazuichi, then Nagito, and finally Hajime.
Kazuichi was a bit freaked out by Nagito behind him... He tried to ask Hajime to sit behind him instead, but Hajime was insistent on being behind Nagito.
And now he had a crazy person behind him.
And they were all super close...
Nagito would easily be able to reach him.
Kazuichi hoped Hajime would save him if Nagito did anything...
"Alright, are we canoeing or not?" Fuyuhiko asked, pushing it up to the shore.
Hajime pushed the boat off the shore before jumping in, quickly taking his paddle from Nagito.
"Thanks, Lucky Star." He quickly said before paddling with the others.
Nagito smiled back at him before joining the rowing.
They all rowed with all their might.
Wow! This was going way better than Kazuichi expected!! It was so fun too!!!
They had gotten pretty far out, the shore was only a line in the distance.
Fuyuhiko started to sweat slightly.
What if the canoe capsized. What if someone fell out. What if Peko needed him.
"Hey, Fuyuhiko, why so tense?" Kazuichi smiled, "Isn't this fun!?"
Fuyuhiko nodded, taking a deep breathe in. "Yeah, this is fun."
"Yeah, this is really fun!" Hajime said, "We should do this more often!"
Nagito nodded, "Yeah. Fun."
They paddled further and further out.
Shit. Fuyuhiko could feel himself sweating more.
Why is he so afraid of the water? What would even happen..?
A lot of things.
A lot of things could happen.
Anything could happen.
Someone could die.
They could have a trial.
Peko could die.
He had to get back.
Fuyuhiko had to get back.
He had to.
Right now.
Right fucking now.
"Hey, Fuyuhiko. Are you sure you're ok..?" Kazuichi asked, putting a hand on Fuyuhiko's shoulder, who instantly flinched.
Fuyuhiko didn't respond. The possibilities of what could happen played in his head. Over. And over.
Nagito stared at Fuyuhiko.
He knew exactly what Fuyuhiko was thinking.
In a way, he had similar thoughts.
Everyone in this boat would drown to death.
And Nagito would come out unscathed.
It would be his luck's.
No.
His fault.
He knew it would happen.
It had to.
It always did.
People would always die around Nagito.
"Nagito." Hajime said, hugging Nagito's waist, "Everything's ok, alright..?"
Nagito nodded.
"Mhm. It's all ok, Lucky Star." Hajime whispered, kissing Nagito's neck. "We're all going to be alive and ok."
Nagito blushed slightly, turning his head to smile at Hajime.
Hajime smiled back, kissing Nagito's cheek.
Kazuichi could feel like everyone was tense, so he tried to lighten everyone's spirits.
"Hey, do you guys have a favourite soda?"
"Soda?" Fuyuhiko said, "Eh, I don't really drink soda."
"Hehe, hey, since it's soda, isn't that. Isn't that cannibalism." Nagito giggled.
"Oh." Kazuichi never thought of that before. "It is."
Everyone burst into laughter.
"Hahahahaha!!! You seriously never thought of that..!" Fuyuhiko laughed, "That's how I remember your last name!!!"
"That's... How I remember it too..!" Hajime said, holding back his laughter as much as he could, practically in the fetal position.
"Hehehe, Kazuichi... Soda... Hehehe..." Nagito continued to giggle.
Kazuichi wasn't expected to get clowned on to such a degree. But atleast the others were happy now...
As the canoe sailed more and more out, everyone just told stories and made eachother laugh.
They all had lots of fun, talking and laughing.
They didn't even notice the Island was no longer in sight, and that the sun was setting.
The moment he noticed Fuyuhiko stared to freak out.
"Oh my god. OH MY GOD WHERE ARE WE?! WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!!" He yelled, starting to shake Kazuichi.
Ah. This.
This was all Nagito's fault.
Just his luck.
Hahahhahaahahaaaa...
He was right.
They... All would die.
Hahhahaaahhaaaaa...
"Kazuichi! Do you have a compass?" Hajime begged, "How do we get back..?!"
"I-I don't know!!" He replied, "I don't know how to get back..!"
"Ohhhh my god..." Fuyuhiko whispered, "We are all going to die. We are all going to die."
Nagito whispered a similar sentiment. "Hahahhaaaa, just my luck... We're all going to die..! I'm sorry... We're all going to die because of me..."
Hajime started to shake Nagito. "No! We aren't going to die! I'll make sure of it!"
"Uh, we should, uh, go back the way we came..!" Kazuichi said, absolutely horrified.
"How's that supposed to work..?" Fuyuhiko asked, holding back tears. "What if we get more lost...?"
"It's our only option." Hajime said, "Back where we came!"
With their last resort decided, the group rowed back the way they came from.
Hajime kept repeating "Back where we came! Back where we came!" to the group as they rowed their way back.
Everyone was extremely tired, and scared.
They had been rowing all afternoon and now all night.
It was completely light when they first noticed just how far out they were.
It was now dark.
It was now very dark.
It was atleast 7pm.
It was a miracle they could still see at all...
"PEKO!!!" Fuyuhiko yelled out to the empty black sea, praying she would respond.
"YOUNG MASTER!!!" They heard a voice yell back.
"I TOLD YOU TO JUST CALL ME FUYUHIKO!!" He yelled back.
"THE ISLAND!!!" Kazuichi screeched, pointing directly forward to the horizon, "ITS THE ISLAND!!!"
Yep, that was the island.
The group instantly started paddling 10 times quicker.
The moment the boat even slightly grazed the sand Fuyuhiko lept out, running into Peko's arms.
The others were left to drag the boat up and back to the beach.
Hajime hugged Nagito by the waist from behind, resting his head on his shoulder, "Heh, that was kinda scary..."
Nagito nodded, "Yeah... But. Thanks to you. We're re all ok, My Hope..."
Hajime laughed, kissing Nagito's cheek, "Thanks, Lucky Star."
Kazuichi sighed, putting the canoe away.
"That was... Kinda fun, ey..?" Kazuichi said to the others, "But I feel exhausted..."
"Well of course you do, it's 10pm." Peko said, kissing Fuyuhiko's forehead.
Geez. How long had they been rowing for?!
Everyone's arms hurt like hell...
They all said their goodnights before going to bed.
Kazuichi lied down in bed, that was honestly super fun!
Even if it got a bit out of hand, he had fun with his friends, and that was enough to make Kazuichi happy.
Peko hugged Fuyuhiko, "I was... Worried."
"I was honestly so scared too..." He responded, "I kept thinking something would happen to you..."
"Even if I did die," Peko said, "I will never go down without a battle."
"Heh, that's my Peko..." Fuyuhiko smiled, standing on his tippytoes to kiss her.
"Well... That was fun." Hajime whispered as Nagito laid beside him.
"Yeah, I guess it was ok in the end..." Nagito responded, grabbing onto Hajime's hands.
Hajime smiled, "Let's go to bed, Lucky Star. Hehe, I'm so tired..."
Nagito nodded, kissing Hajime's cheek, "Goodnight, My Hope..."
