Games and Evil Demons

Summary:

What could possibly be a better way to spend time with a friend than playing video games?

"Old man, do you wanna play videogames with me?"
The demon asked, sounding quite excited.

The sheriff considered it.
"...Maybe some time later. I actually prefer other games, like poker for example."

Belz nodded.
"Ah, sure. Obviously. Poker. Yeah..."

....Poker.

Poker?

" ....What's poker?"

----

Computergames are awesome.
Beelzebub agrees.

Notes:

Y'know Sand Land? The manga by Akira Toriyama from around 2000?

Welp, it got an upgrade in the form of an anime and a game in 2024.

The game has an amazing story, amazing open-world gameplay, and it's overall very neat.

You can go watch it. Or play it.

It's awesome.

Totally worth it.

You even get to steal a tank in the game.

And a motorcycle.

And shoot dinosaurs.

And not shoot aliens, but they give you a gun anyway. 💀

And do a bunch of other cool stuff.

You're playing as the local menace, the fiend prince Beelzebub, as he roams through the desert with his companions—Thief, his designated babysitter, and Rao, the sheriff of a human village.

...

Now that's out of the way—

Y'know who else loves video games? 😈🕶✨️

Work Text:

He was sitting on the throne, surrounded by darkness, as well as a few devilishly orange flickering flames.

You couldn't see anything but his silhouette.

And it was incredibly tall.

Majestic.

It was Lucifer, the King of Demons, Beelzebub's father, respected and feared by all demons— and he moved.

His hand twitched.

The candle ligth fell onto his face, revealing his expression.

His brows were furrowed. He was concentrating on a book he was reading.

Quite the important one, migth I add.

He got the book just last week, it wasn't nearly as ancient as a good book should be— but ... it was necessary.

The king turned another page.

There was this new invention, that all the human children were obsessed with.

"Video games are not inherently good or bad for children.

Their impact depends heavily on the types of games played, how much time is spent playing them, and whether they crowd out healthy activities like physical exercise, sleep..."

Video games.

His son had been begging for a gaming console for months now.

Specifically, the PlayStation 5.

"...Treat video games the same way you treat television, movies, or books—by curating the content and balancing its consumption.

It is very important to set clear boundaries regarding gaming: establish screen-time limits and make sure they are respected.

It's also advised to stick to age ratings..."

Hm.

He put the book away and picked up another.

A few centuries later, in a drougth and dusty desert, in the middle of a village that was covered in sand, someone was visibly annoyed.

"It was just a minute. A minute. I was about to close. THAT'S NOT FAIR."

He grumbled and picked up a broom.

It was the fiend prince Beelzebub— and more importantly, the owner of a small gaming console.

Someone had surpassed the time limit again, handn't he?

Beelzebub grimassed.

Since he wasn't allowed to play games for today— and probably tomorrow too—

A smirk streched across his face.

He was going to sweep this village clean.

You can bet this is going to be OP.

Dad is gonna get BLOWN away by how GOOD this floor is sweeped— no wait.

How EVIL this floor is sweeped.

😈

The sun shone hot and heavy over the Demon Village.

Some demons made paper fans, while others hid inside their houses.

Everyone was gulping down twenty bottles of the newly available water in plastic bottles, as if their life depended on it.

... And it probably did.

Everyone but Beelzebub, who was still sweeping the village.

He was sweating too, but I doubt he'd actually admit it.

The peaceful process of dying from the heat was interrupted by the distinct sound of a car engine.

The demons were too exhausted to care.

An old looking, grey haired human stepped out of the vehicle.

His hat was shielding him from the sun, temporarily hiding his face from view— while his sheriff's badge reflected the light blinding everyone nearby.

It was the sheriff Rao.

...

Or General Shiba. Whichever you prefer. I think he prefers Rao, though. Or well—

"Old man!"

The pink demon perked up happily, the broom completely forgotten.

The pink demon hurried over to the car, and made sure to look extra EVIL! 😈

What could possibly be a better way to spend time with a friend than playing video games?

So in true Beeelzebub fashion, he tried to convince Rao to play with them.

"I am a bit too old for that, Prince."

The sheriff said, smiling.

The prince wasn't happy with that answer, but he handed Rao a waterbottle regardless.

"I am centuries old, and I ain't too old for video games."

The fiend replied, crossing his arms.

The sherrif hummed, and opened the water bottle with some effort.

"....Maybe some time later. I actually prefer other games, like poker for example."

Belz nodded, a serious expression on his face.

"Ah, sure. Obviously. Poker. Yeah..."

....Poker.

The prince furrowed his brows.

....Poker?

" ....What's poker?"

Notes:

I hope you had fun reading it! 😈🕶

(P.S. There might be some interpretation differences here because my brain is soup.

I first watched the anime in Japanese with English subtitles, then decided that wasn't enough and watched it again in a Slavic language. After that I played the game in English... and then, for some reason, read the manga in Italian. 😈

So if I got anything wrong, I swear it wasn't on purpose. 😭)

I also kind of shortened Beelzebub to Belz in some sentences, so like, idk if it's ok to do so.......
