The Escape

Summary:

You and Andrew leave Oceanside permanently

Work Text:

The plan hadn’t been elaborate. Not really. Andrew always preferred things to be simple. Less chance of a fuck up that way. But this hadn’t been his plan, it was yours.

And it was perfect.

You’d been trying to get him to leave Smurf and Oceanside for years, but he’d always found a reason to say no. Another reason to stay. And you stayed with him through it all. But then Smurf had threatened you.

Not directly, no. That wasn’t how Smurf operated. It was always hints and suggestions and what ifs. But he read the subtext easily enough. So, he’d come home and asked you what the plan was. He knew you had one at the ready. You always did.

That’s when you told him about the money stashed at a bank in the Caribbean and a little hut on the beach. About the money buried in the sand beneath it. Every penny he’d given you, you’d stashed away in anticipation. You’d used trips with your dad as a cover until he died six months ago. But you still had all of his connections.

Papers under fake names. Private airplanes. A little boat owned by a man named Horse that Andrew decided not to think about too long for his own sanity. He’d completed one last job with his family, took his cut and the two of you disappeared before Smurf could summon you for a family dinner.

Every step went just as you’d planned and as the miles between you and Smurf grew, Andrew became less tense. By the time you arrived at your new home nestled in the trees along a beautiful stretch of beach, he’d stopped anticipating an attack around every corner.

That had been months ago now and for the first time in his entire life, Andrew felt like he could just breathe. Like he didn’t have to prove his worth, to earn his place. Every night you went to sleep in his arms and he woke you every morning with his lips on yours. This life with you was a peace he didn’t think he’d ever feel.

“Andy?”

Your voice pulled him from his thoughts and he squeezed your hand as he looked over at you. The two of you were walking along the waterline as the sun set. “Yeah?”

The smile you gave him chased away any lingering thoughts of Smurf and his brothers. “You with me?” you asked.

He lifted your hand to press a kiss to the back of it. “Always.”

And there was no where else he ever wanted to be.
