And so the Cycle Repeats
Summary:
Growing up, Aragorn recognizes something in the stories of Beren and Lúthien. As an adult, he realizes the extent of the pattern too late to keep Arwen from facing Lúthien’s choice.
Notes:
“You” refers to Aragorn.
Used the prompts “cycles” and “Lúthien”, as well as tackling the added challenge of writing exactly 100 words AND writing in Second Person POV.
(See the end of the work for more notes.)
Work Text:
Something in your heart knows that each of the legends you’ve read has more to them than simple history. Something in the yearning of Beren and Lúthien feels more familiar than it should, even considering how often you revisit it in song and written tale. When you see the mirror of Lúthien Tinúviel, for the first time, in Arwen Undómiel, you understand. First you understand the yearning, then something deeper within you understands the familiarity. Your dread knows truth.
This choice of an immortal, to choose mortality for love, is one of the rarer repeating motifs in the ongoing song.
Notes:
I did change “cycle” to “motif” to post this, because “motif” fits better alongside “song”.
