"Okay. Be safe! Don't take any candy from strangers! Make sure you take lots of pictures!" Eliza exclaimed.

Alex sighed. "I'm in Metropolis, Mom. Not Paris or Mars. I've been here before."

Eliza chuckled. "I know. Just have fun. Try not to stay in your hotel room too much, but don't be out too late."

"Alright," Alex replied, both of them fully aware that she was lying. "Love you."

"Love you, too, sweetie."

Alex sighed, sticking the phone in her jacket's hidden zip-up pocket on the inside. Suddenly, she heard a screech, and her head shot up. A motorcycle was going out of control and was about to slam right into a young schoolgirl just a few feet away from her.

Alex's eyes went wide, and she lunged, barely managing to tackle the girl out of the way in time. She scrambled to her feet just in time to see the motorcycle rider regain control of his vehicle. With a sigh of relief, the redhead turned and held a hand out to help up the girl.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

The girl nodded, her green eyes staring back at Alex in awe as she was pulled to her feet. "You...you saved my life."

Alex shrugged. "It needed saving."

"But you don't know me. Why?"

"Well, I have a little sister. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to her. I guess...you reminded me a bit of her that way."

The girl smiled a little. "I have a big brother."

"See? If my sister were in danger, I'd want someone to save her. I'd be willing to bet your brother feels the same way," Alex pointed out. Suddenly, her phone buzzed. "Okay. Well, I'm glad you're safe. Be careful around motorcycles, okay? They can be pretty dangerous."

The girl nodded. "Thank you."

Alex winked at her before slipping away through the crowd. The girl sighed, picking her bookbag up and wondering who the mysterious stranger who had just helped her was.
