Work Text:
even in the serious of situations, Mike can't help but notice how the sunlight beams over Wills features, making him look angelic.
it seems to happen quite often where something dire is being discussed yet Will shines in the light. Mike hasn't decided if the universe is doing this on purpose to torture him or not, because he notices it everytime and its hard not to stare.
if Mike allowed himself to actually think about it instead of pushing it to the back of his mind, he would see it almost as a metaphor. Will is his light, he always has been.
no matter how hard he tries to tank into darkness, the light always shines on him and he cannot hide. it makes him seen, his deepest feelings being shown in the brightness. either he accepts being seen, or he blocks the sun out.
he spent years blocking the light out, dulling its brightness even, but he always chases back to it when he realizes the dark isn't as easy as he wants it to be.
he's been stuck in this in between where he cant decide if he wants to run to the light or allow the darkness to engulf him fully. the light is fading, soon he won't have any beams pointing his way and he'll have to deal with his choice (or lack of) for the rest of his life.
that scares him. hes had the option of going to the light practically his whole life, and the thought of it being gone feels like he's losing a part of himself. he's selfish, he can't bring himself to accept what he is and go to the light, yet he wants the light to always be there.
he watches as the light leaves, admiring the softness of it as he himself plummets into a harsh darkness. he was too late. his light isn't his, it never was. he just couldn't bring himself to claim it.
