Until you confess

Summary:

“Yo you guys should play seven minutes in heaven I’m not even joking.”

Excuse me?” Foolish exclaims loudly in Juan’s ear, the two of them sitting crisscrossed particularly close, enough that their knees press against one another’s.

“Wait what? What’s seven minutes in- what?” Juan asks, looking at her confused.

They turn their heads to look at him and Tina smirks behind her hand.

“Oh Foolish can tell you! Just come here quickly.”

OR

Tina locks them in a closet so they can figure it out and they figure it out

Work Text:

“Yo you guys should play seven minutes in heaven I’m not even joking.”

Juan and Foolish turn their heads swiftly to look at Tina, abandoning the quarrel they were just in that Juan doesn’t even remember starting. The three of them have been sitting on the woman’s bedroom floor for an hour, discussing their lives like old friends do.

“Excuse me?” Foolish exclaims loudly in Juan’s ear, the two of them sitting crisscrossed particularly close, enough that their knees press against one another’s, and enough that Juan can hear very well Foolish’s voice when the Totem yells.

“Wait what? What’s seven minutes in- what?” Juan asks, looking at her confused.

Neither respond. Juan looks between Foolish and Tina, the former mouthing something he doesn’t understand while the latter looks at the Totem eyebrows raised.

“Hey, respond me! What is it?!”

Finally they turn their heads to look at him and Tina smirks behind her hand.

“Oh Foolish can tell you! Just come here quickly.”

She stands up and takes his arm, pulling him towards her purple wooden closet. She opens the door and shoves her clothes to the side and Juan is still as confused as he was previously.

Suddenly he feels her hand push against his back and he’s stumbling in, Foolish following close behind as surprised as Juan is.

“Figure it out!” She yells out.

Darkness envelops the both of them as Tina locks the door behind, Juan hearing the sound of footsteps walking further and further away.

“What the fuck, man,” Juan mutters, trying to look at the Totem as his eyes acclimate to the sliver of light coming from a crack in between the two doors.

Foolish is sitting down, knees drawn to his chest in an attempt to make himself smaller to fit, while Juan is on his knees facing him. There’s no room for his arms to move and he’s certain the Totem is squeezed even tighter in between the few feet of depth the closet has.

In their position, Juan almost looks taller then the Totem.

“Ok i don’t know, Tina is weird,” Foolish complains with a sigh.

“Yeah,” Juan acknowledges, trying the closet door unsuccessfully, “but what is seven minutes in heaven?”

The man in glasses looks back to the Totem when he feels him move and finds him covering his face with his hands.

“It’s nothing,” he mutters behind his hands, “it’s just a stupid game.”

“What’s the game?” Juan persist.

Foolish removes his hand and bangs his head back on the side of the closet three times, a habit he had started recently.

“You spin a bottle twice and the two people chosen have to go somewhere for seven minutes. And- do whatever.”

“But she don’t spin a bottle,” Juan adds, confused.

“Yeah exactly, so we’re not playing that game, it’s that simple.”

Silence falls around them and Juan can’t help but notice Foolish’s face has reddened. It’s probably from the heat, the closet hasn’t been made to accommodate a grown man and a giant monster, after all, and there wasn’t much ventilation.

“But why did she want to play that game?” Juan asks again.

“Why do you have to ask so many darn questions?!” Foolish complains.

“Oh my god, I’m just curious, asshole!”

“Okay! She didn’t want to play that game, she wanted us to play that game.”

“Why?”

Foolish groans, audibly annoyed. Sue a guy for being confused, apparently.

“Because you’re supposed to fuck each other when you’re in the room!” Foolish throws in a high pitched voice,

Juan frowns.

“But we don’t fuck?”

“No, of course we don’t,” Foolish grumbles, turning his head to face the door.

Juan can’t help but stare at the Totem. The sliver of light casts a golden glow on his face and highlight the bright green gem stones on his cheek, and Juan even notices some distant freckles, having most likely appeared because of Foolish’s ungodly amount of time spent in the sun building that temple.

He generally tries not to look at the man too much, not wanting to make him uncomfortable, or make his feelings too obvious, but in this moment they’re stuck together. He’s sure Foolish wouldn’t blame him for looking at the only interesting thing around.

“It’s my fault I think…” Foolish says unexpectedly, filling the silence.

“What do you mean?”

The totem drops his head on his forearms.

“We got drunk yesterday night, and I guess…”

A pause.

“You guess…?”

“It’s not- I was drunk, okay? I wasn’t thinking right.”

“Okay…?”

“I think she interpreted some of my words as me having a crush on you,” he sputters out.

Juan is stunned. His mouth gapes open and he stares at the man who still hasn’t raised his head.

What does that mean? Does Tina now think Foolish has a crush on Juan? What could Foolish have said that made her think that? Did he suspect Juan of having  a crush and she misunderstood? Did Foolish know? Did Tina know?

“Can you stop thinking so loudly?” Foolish complains, effectively stopping Juan’s train of thoughts.

The Totem has raised his head and is now staring at Juan. The stare Foolish focuses on him makes him panic, not knowing how to handle himself.

“I’m not!”

“Yes you are. What are you thinking about? I told you Tina thinks that. I didn’t actually say anything about what I felt for-“ Foolish stops himself but it’s too late, almost slapping a hand against his mouth.

His eyes are open wide, looking like a deer in headlights looking at Juan.

“Wait what?” Juan questions, once again confused.

What did Foolish feel? Why did he have to hide it, especially from Tina? And did he say “what he felt for”? Felt what for who?

“Nothing.” Foolish croaks out, still staring at Juan, searching for something in his eyes.

“Puto monstruo, why you always say things no one understands?” Juan laments, throwing his head back and staring at the top of the closet.

He couldn’t handle the emotional roller coaster right now. He felt like throwing up from the pounding in his chest and the pain in his head. This crush was gonna be the death of him.

Wait, if Tina was drunk and Foolish was talking about his feelings, but he was being mysterious about it, then maybe Tina guessed that he had a crush on Juan but he actually-

Juan gasps.

“Wait! Are you in love with Tina!?”

“What!? No!! Absolutely not, excuse me?!What?” Foolish yells, barely containing his horror at the assumption.

“Oh, sorry man,” Juan mutters, pushing the palm of his hands in his eyes.

“That’s crazy, that’s actually crazy you just said that,” the Totem continues.

They stare at each other for a second before Juan starts to giggle, Foolish following immediately with a wheeze. The laughing fit makes Juan lose some of the tension he was holding, loosens his tongue.

“Ok, ok, but how can Tina think you have a crush on me? What can you say to make her think that? Did you say like ‘oh I have a crush on Juan, jijiji’?” Juan continues, still confused, and hiding what he wants in jokes now that the conversation has turned unserious and Foolish won’t suspect anything and it won’t ruin their friendship.

To Juan’s absolute surprise, the conversation doesn’t stay unserious. The Totem turns quiet and simply stares at him with his hypnotizing emerald eyes.

“W- …did you? Said that?” Juan asks, confused as to why Foolish hasn’t responded yet.

“Huh?” He finally whispers softly.

Silence reigns down around them. Juan can’t help but notice the stark difference between Foolish’s reactions on the two assumptions he made about his feelings. One was absolute horror, the other was… avoidance?

Juan really can’t control his heart, especially not when Foolish makes him feel like there’s hope for his hopeless crush. When there definitely isn’t. Foolish himself had told him his heart is locked away. Foolish can’t like Juan.

“I was- drunk. Maybe I said that, how could I know…?” The Totem whispers in the same tone, looking up at Juan through his… eyelashes?!

Was Foolish flirting? Now that was just delusional on Juan’ part for all the reasons  he just listed. But…

“I don’t know, man… How drunk were you?” Juan responds, lowering his tone and leaning slightly in.

Their heads were still a good two feet apart, although Juan’s chest was leaning on Foolish’s knees now. It couldn’t hurt to flirt if it was what Foolish wanted. Juan could savor this moment and finally put an end to his stupid crush when it was over.

“Drunk enough to talk unfiltered, I think… Drunken words are sober thoughts, after all, no?”

Juan couldn’t be imagining all of this.

“Are they? He asks quietly, his throat closing up, making sure he wasn’t hearing this all wrong.

Foolish takes a second to look at Juan before responding.

“Yeah- I think they are…” he murmurs, looking back up at Juan with a slight smile.

Juan takes a shaky breath, unable to grasp the extent of Foolish’s words but definitely understanding the meaning hiding behind them.

Foolish parts his knees, allowing Juan to slide further into his space, allowing their noses to touch and their breaths to mingle. He brings a hand to Juan’s cheek and the man almost whines. The Totem’s touch burned against his skin.

Juan stares at Foolish’s lips, a burning desire coursing through him. Having denied himself for so long, he wasn’t sure he was allowed to, even if he wanted to taste the lips so badly.

“Tell me I can, Foolish,” he whispers, desperately waiting for a confirmation.

The Totem doesn’t respond. His eyes run over Juan’s face one last time before leaning in the rest of the way and gently taking Juan’s lips in his, kissing him sweetly and simply.

It’s a simple press of their lips. It tastes like everything Juan has ever wanted.

The sudden sound of doors opening is what separates their lips from the simple kiss they were sharing, to Juan’s utmost displeasure. He would have stayed in that moment forever.

They look at once to the new brightness and discover that the closet doors have unlocked and opened, seemingly all on their own.

“What is that, magic?” Juan asks, confused.

“Mmh, maybe,” Foolish responds, capturing Juan’s lips once more in a quick kiss that destabilizes Juan before slowly moving out of the closet, stretching while groaning audibly.

Juan stares, simply because he can now.
