Work Text:
"The Mitakihara Middle School Prom has officially begun! Gaze at the starry lights and slow music as you waltz with your partner here on the dance floor!"
Hitomi sulked in the corner alone, having no partner to dance with. Kyosuke was unfortunately absent due to medical problems, and all of her friends had dates of their own. Meaning for the green-haired girl, that finding someone comfortable to dance with was hopeless.
Ever since Hitomi, Madoka, and Sayaka we're children, they had dreamt of going to a prom together. Dancing under spotlights as romantic music played in the background. So much for her boyfriend "doing his best" to come, Hitomi thought.
As Hitomi silently wept, she could feel her stomach growl from slight hunger. She hadn't eaten the food yet, due to being so focused on waiting for Kyosuke to show up by the door and accompanying her. She walked over to the wide table, eyeing the snacks before landing on a tray of sandwiches.
As she reached out to grab one, her hand collided with the hand of another.
"Oh! Pardon me, were you going to take a bite?" The mysterious girl said to Hitomi.
"Y-yes I was..! You can take one though.." Hitomi replied in slight embarrassment. Before looking up at the girl and.. She was beautiful. Long Golden slightly curly hair, accompanied by a hair accessory resembling a flower. And down her body she wore an extravagant suit, topped with a golden flower in the pocket near her torso.
"W-wow.. You're so pretty..! H-how come I never saw you here before?" Hitomi asked, as the girl giggled.
"Thank you.. I mostly stay by myself a lot, so maybe that's why you probably haven't seen me often. And speaking of which, I love your dress..!"
The girl replied back, earning a soft blush on Hitomi's face.
"I-it was my partner's favorite.. a silky green dress, he said that it matched my hair.." Hitomi answered.
"I see, so why are you here by yourself?" The girl asked.
"H-he couldn't come.. so much for insisting he will.." Hitomi said, her face turning into a more saddened expression.
"Well, I think your dress is really lovely~! And if you aren't too hungry yet, would you like to dance with me? I also don't have a partner as well.. fufu.." The girl politely asked, bowing down slightly to show respect.
She felt really mature, Hitomi thought. And her mind for some reason can't help wanting to grow closer to her. Surely no one is going to judge her for dancing with another girl right? Obviously Madoka and Sayaka both went with Homura and Kyoko respectfully, so it isn't that weird currently..
"S-sure.. and may I ask, what is your name?" Hitomi asked with respect.
"Tomoe Mami..." The other girl answered, before raising one gloved hand towards the olive-haired girl.
"Now may I please have this dance?" Mami said.
Hitomi answered "O-of course.."
This was Hitomi's first time dancing. She was optimistic at first, but now she feels uncertain, unsteady, and slightly scared. "Is this your first time dancing as well, Mami-san?" Hitomi asked in order to try and calm her own doubts.
"Well, not really.. I've only danced with my parents when I was very little.." Mami replied.
"How are they?" Hitomi asked again for further insight.
"They died in a car accident. I was the only one who survived..." Mami's face drooped slightly.
"Are you ok..?" Hitomi said in concern
"I-I am alright.." Mami did her best to lift herself up after that vulnerable confession, but Hitomi did her best to comfort her.
"If you want, we could hang out..? I'll be glad to be there to comfort you Mami-san.." Hitomi said, as she slowly held onto Mami's waist and shoulder.
Mami softly smiled and giggled as a result. "Of course, I'll take some time off my day to chat with you. And perhaps make some tea! You'd like that right?" Mami held onto Hitomi as well, as they slowly waltz'ed and spun around the dance floor.
The two continued chatting, as they moved to the rhythm of the song. The two closely bonded, vowing to become close friends who could rely on each other. As time passed on, and the prom slowly ended, the two split their ways. Hitomi waved "bye" to Mami as she got in her father's car, leaving Mami on the street.
"Who were you talking to Mami?" Homura asked, appearing from behind her.
"Hmm.. someone lovely.." Mami replied.
