Chapter Text
Kai woke up in a cold sweat. He rolled over onto his side, trying to catch his breath, when he heard an incessant banging on his door.
“Kai, wake up!” Nya screamed, “We need you to start making breakfast, we’re all starving and tired from working on the thrusters yesterday, while you got to patrol!”
Kai rolled his eyes, Nya knew perfectly well that he didn’t get to do anything, they all dumped patrol on him because they wanted to watch the new season of Super Ninja Heroes. The only reason they were working on the thrusters was because Master Wu realized they weren’t doing anything, so he made them do extra chores.
“KAI, ARE YOU UP YET” Nya’s shrill voice cut through his wooden door easily, and Kai startled, he had forgotten she was still there.
“Yeah, yeah, jus’ gimme a minute to get up” He shouted back, pushing himself up and fumbling around for his contact case.
“Well hurry up, I want food” Nya yelled, before Kai heard her retreating footsteps, going back down the hall to presumably complain about him being lazy to the others.
Kai stood up, and made his way to the bathroom, he couldn’t find his contacts on his bedside table where they usually were, so he blindly wandered around his room till he found the door, opened it and walked straight into Jay.
“Ow, what the fuck, Jay, why are you standing right there?” Kai complained, rubbing his head.
“You know, a better question might be WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE?!?!” Jay shrieked, his voice hitting a pitch he had previously believed only dolphins could. From what Kai could see, which was admittedly very little, Jay appeared to be waving something in his face.
“Jay, how about we take a few deep breaths before we shatter the monastery windows, okay.” Kai say, “Now, please enlighten me about what the everloving fuck you are shoving in my face that is so intensely important you have to shatter my eardrums right as I wake up” he whispers, undeniably very pissed off. Jay took several dramatic steps back, before, at a much more acceptable volume, exclaiming, “I was in your room earlier, ‘cause I wanted to steal one of your hoodies, ‘cause they’re so comfy, and THEN I saw something sitting on your bedside stand, and I just thought, Wait, is Kai doing drugs, ‘cause it was a little white container so I—”
“Woah, woah, woah, hold up there” Kai interrupts, “YOU THOUGHT I WAS ON DRUGS!?!?! JAY, WE ARE NINJA, ARE YOU INSANE!” He shrieks, very offended.
“HEY, I don’t know, it was just the first thing that came to my mind. ANYWAY, back to the story. So, basically, I went up to your little container, and you know what it says on it, CONTACT LENSES, Kai, why are you wearing contacts, you have perfect vision, don’t you remember that one time when you got mad at me so you threw your katana and it hit the belt of my training gi so perfectly that it pinned me to the wall without even poking me! Don’t you remember? ‘Cause I definitely remember!” Jay rambles, seemingly without taking a single breath. Kai takes a deep breath, because as annoying as Jay is, Kai really does not want to turn him into a human sausage.
“Jay, I’m gonna hold your hands as I say this, okay.” Kai says, more in control of his emotions now, “That is what contacts do, they give you perfect vision. When I don't have my lenses in, I can’t see for shit. For example, right now, you do not look like a person, you look like a blue blob. Now, will you please give me my contacts so I can see today, and not walk around totally blind?” he asks.
Jay chuckles nervously, “Soooo, about that, I, uh, I may or may not have accidentally opened the little container, and then dropped the little contact thing-a-ma-bobs, um, down the sink” Jay whispers,
“You. Did. What.” Kai yells, “Oh my FSM, Jay, just, FUCK, just, why, UGH! What am I supposed to do, Jay! Those were my last ones, I—” Suddenly, Kai cuts himself off, and his eyes widen with relief, “Jay you are, so, so, so, lucky!” Kai says, before whipping around and fumbling blindly along the walls of his room, before finding his bedside table, and ripping open the drawer and rummaging through.
“Aha!” Kai exclaims, holding up a small rectangular box. He flips open the lid of the box, revealing red and gold glasses. Kai unfolds them and shoves them onto his face, breathing a sigh of relief as everything instantly comes into focus. Jay stands in the doorway still, jaw practically on the floor, as Kai spins around to look at him.
“Kai? You, you wear glasses?” Jay asks, voice incredibly small,
“Yes, Jay, I wear glasses, I don’t usually wear them because they’re not exactly perfect for combat and fighting, but I don’t have much of a choice here, now do I?” Kai scolds, “Now, come on, if I make Nya wait any longer for her food, she might cry, not to mention Cole” Kai shudders, knowing very well how the Master of Earth gets when he doesn’t get breakfast. He hurries out of the room, ushering a still shell-shocked Jay along with him, as he rushed to get started on the eggs and toast.
