Time.
Fire Spirit Cookie had always hated the passage of time. What seemed like a day to him was a week for every other Cookie. A year would go by quicker than he could blink, and yet, he stayed the same. No new changes to his dough, no feeling of weariness or anything hurting. He was immortal, after all.
But Knight Cookie wasn't.
That fact had haunted Fire Spirit Cookie ever since he had fallen in love with the Hollyberry Kingdom's most trusted knight. Every second they spent together was over in a flash, and time kept on ticking. Not for him, but for Knight Cookie. A mortal.
A mortal who would age. Who would slow down. Who would crumble. He hated that. He hated the nightmares he'd get of Knight Cookie already being gone the next time he visited.
It was terrifying.
But that's the cycle of nature, right? Cookies are born, they grow, they live, and then they perish. So is life. Old life must wither to make room for new blossoms, as a fellow Guardian of Nature had told him.
But why couldn't fate just stop for the one he loved? How come he got to live on, century after century, while Knight Cookie was a ticking time bomb? How was any of this fair?
It did make those little moments extra special, though. Like that night Knight Cookie had fallen sound asleep on his chest, and he sat there, stroking the other's hair until he too had passed out. Or the time they both were overlooking the sunset when he had confessed his love for Knight Cookie, and the two spent the entire night after cuddling and sharing their first kiss.
He would do anything to relive those moments again. They went by far too quickly.
He looked up to the sky, seeing nothing but an inky black. Seems the time for worrying had been long over. He was due to visit his knight in shining armor tonight.
Fire Spirit Cookie lifted off the cliff ledge he was sitting on with a flash of flame. Maybe he'd bring this up with his beloved tonight.
No matter. Might as well cherish what little time he has left with Knight Cookie before it's over.
