Work Text:

It's been a few months since Thanos was defeated. Everyone managed to survive. Natasha had mentioned how it was weird being alive again. Everyone was just glad that, for now, Earth was safe.

My adopted Father, Tony Stark had adopted me and Peter right after he was discharged from the hospital. Pepper and Morgan of course were on board.

Tony and Pepper had moved back to the city for the new Avengers tower. We went to the other house in the summers, at least that's what Tony said we'd do.

Tony didn’t have his arm anymore, it was too damaged after the snap. So I had worked on something when he was still in the hospital recovering.

“You made this?” He asks, I nod. I was holding a prosthetic arm in my hands, I wasn't making eye contact.

“It should be easy to take off and it should be able to connect to you so that it acts like a biological arm would.” I say, really hoping I didn't mess anything up.

“Can you help me get it on?” He asks and it honestly catches me off guard.
“U-uh yeah!” I move and gesture to a stool for him to sit down.

“So this goes over, um…the stub?” I start, grabbing a cover that'll help the prosthetic connect. I didn't entirely know what to call what was left of his arm, he just chuckles.

“I'm in your hands.” He teases, I can't help the breathy laugh that escapes me either.

I start putting the prosthetic on him, occasionally directing him to do something so it goes on easier.

It doesn't take very long to get on.
“The button on the side lets you take it on and off, and this is kinda like a control panel for it, you have to choose a verbal command to unlock it though, ‘cause I didn't want Morgan messing with it.” I start to explain, sliding a small handheld device to him on the lab table.

“Smart.” He praises, I smile.
“How do I set the verbal command?" He then asks.
“Just hold down the side button.” I answer and he does so, giving a verbal command in Italian that I don't understand.
“Amo i miei figli.”

“Jeez, you really put a lot in here.” He comments, I grin.
“You did good, kiddo.” He says, now looking right at me. I blush out of embarrassment.
“It's no big deal.” I mutter. He frowns.

“Kid, this clearly took time and effort. I wouldn't have even considered making something like this. Thank you.”

I shift on my feet a bit. Tony sighs fondly and gets up.
“Come on, let's show Pep.” He says, draping his bionic arm over my shoulder. I lean into him slightly, my wings tuck themselves closer to my back so I can be closer. Tony smiles.
———

“Whoa, kiddo, that's what you've been doing?” Pepper asks when Tony shows her his new arm. I nod slightly.
“Just how long have you been working on this?” Tony asks.
“Not long.” I mutter, Pepper frowns.

“The only time I saw you out of the lab was for Tony or when me or Peter had to drag you out.” She retorts. Tony frowns again.

“Friday, what were the hours they were in my lab when I was out?” He asks, my eyes widen.
“That's not necessary—” I start, but Friday has already pulled up a holographic chart. I should not have added her as a function in the prosthetic.

Tony reads the chart, frowning even more. Fuck, am I in trouble. I shift on my feet and look around the room for possible ways to leave. My wings expand a little too.

“Hey, kiddo— whoa, okay. Take a breath, you're not in trouble.” Tony turns to look at me, his frown shifting to a look of concern. I look up at him.

“Hey, you're okay. No one's in trouble, we're just worried about you.” He says, putting his hands on me. The prosthetic one is a bit cold, but I don't really notice.

“Sorry.” I mutter, he shakes his head.
“How about we watch something? Morgan's been interested in the one show you like, Gravity Falls I think?” He asks. I nod slightly.

“Come on then.” He smiles, I follow him.
———

Pepper had gotten Peter and Morgan and we're now in the living room with snacks on the coffee table and all of us on the couch.

“You weren't preening much either, huh?” Tony mutters mostly to himself from next to me, he noticed these things. Preening was important for me, but it was hard to do so in the first place by myself. Also I had been pretty focused on making the prosthetic.

“Can I?” He asks. I nod.
“You don't gotta ask anymore, just warn me.” I mutter. Peter and Pepper glance over at us, Morgan's focus is on the show.

My shoulders slowly start relaxing, I end up shifting to be more comfortable while Tony preens me. I'm kinda tired…
“You're doing this on purpose.” I mumble.
“I don't know what you're talking about, baby bird.” He says, absolutely teasing me. I just can't prove it.

“I hate you.” I mutter with no heat behind it.
“Doesn't seem like it, kiddo.” He replies with a tap to my shoulder with his new prosthetic. I give him a half assed glare as my eyes begin to droop.
