Work Text:
It was so hard for you to focus whenever Genji was around. And the worst part about it was that Genji was completely unaware of the effect he had on you. It was always these little touches of his that got you riled up - a gentle touch on the shoulder, a hand on your back. Any kind of contact with him you had stayed with you for hours as long as it was from him.
The afternoon was no different. You were sitting him, Genji was showing you something on his phone when you felt his hand on your shoulder. He was saying something but you couldn't focus on whatever he was trying to say because all you could think about was how close he was. And he was so excited about what he was telling you, you felt bad. Especially when his smile was so big and his dark eyes seemed to shine so brightly. You knew you should listen, but he was so close and your brain turned into a mush.
“And then–” He looked at your face suddenly, noticing the small blush that appeared. “Everything alright?” He asked, his voice softened to a gentler tone from the enthusiastic one. And then he squeezed your shoulder gently.
“Oh, yes! Sorry, you were just talking so… please go on. I would love to hear more.” You tried to act like you weren't slightly startled and very flustered by his question.
He took one more look at your face before he spoke up.
“Alright, then. What was I… yes, right.” And then he was talking again.
You tried to listen to what he was saying, doing your very best to focus on the words but your brain had a hard time cooperating.
And then you heard Athena call out from the speakers, asking for Genji's immediate presence in the west wing. He let out a small sigh, putting his phone away.
“Duty calls. I'll see you later.” He said before giving you a quick hug, causing you to freeze.
You didn't expect that at all, especially since Genji wasn't that much of a hugger. He had hugged you before, but it was so rare for him to do that you didn't get used to it yet. And now you were in his arms, time seemed to slow down and your heart was beating so fast. You hoped he couldn't hear or feel it. It was practically ringing in your ears. He was so close you could smell his cologne.
“You changed your cologne?” You babbled out before your brain could catch up with your mouth. Genji pulled back with a small snort and you felt your cheeks warm up even more.
“Yeah. Glad you noticed.” He then let you go and stood up.
“Be careful, alright?”
“Of course.” And with that he was gone.
You let out a breath that you didn't even know you were holding and leaned back. You were down bad for him.
