Work Text:

America never thought he would see or experience something like this.

Did an alien come to his house? Nah, he’s already got one as a buddy!

Did he win a million dollars? Pfft, his government has much more than that!

Did he see a ghost? Well… not YET. But he will see one someday. And then he’ll shit his pants.

No, nothing like this! It was something far better than all of those scenarios! Truly unbelievable! Alfred never would have thought he would see this in his own house. He also never thought he would see it this morning!

Now, you ask yourself. What has the American seen that was so astonishing to him? Well…

On the floor, there’s a man laying on the ground. His blond hair is all mused up, his face buried in the cold wood, and his body refusing to move, at all. His skin was redder than usual, but not extremely, just a little. It was also sweating, and not just under his armpits, he was sweating EVERYWHERE. So much so, that it’s not even cooling the man down. It’s practically useless, and the stench…Well. It’s bearable, at least.

But who is this man on the floor, suffering from the heat, you ask? And why is Alfred so fascinated?

You get three guesses!

1. It’s England, who has most likely broken into his home, drunk from yesterday and didn’t have much power to change into something or to find a place to sleep.
2. It’s Canada, who, as a cold nation, is used to much lower temperatures and is now suffering from the heat and using the floor to cool down.
3. It’s France, which has also broken into his home, drunk, and is also suffering from the heat. Double-win!

If you picked any of these choices, WRONG! How could you assume that it’s any of those nations? Tsk! They wouldn’t even move a step out of their house just to break into America’s instead. Even if it has air conditioning. No, it’s actually his boyfriend! Germany! Props to you if you found that out through the tags!

Anyhow, Germany is laying on the ground, trying to make himself comfortable on the wooden surface. Which isn’t. He wishes he could turn into a dog so that he could lay as comfortably as they do on the floor. Which is what they’re doing as well! Alfred looks to his right, near the kitchen, and sees the three dogs laying on the ground, keeping distance from each other to not get even warmer than they already are. Poor things. Thank god Ludwig doesn’t have fur on himself.

But the reason why Alfred is so fascinated is because he’s never seen his boyfriend like this! Sure, they’ve been together for a long time, he has experienced summer with Ludwig twice, but he has never reacted like this. Never resorted to laying on the floor. He always slept in the bed they share, even with the blanket wrapped around him! Sometimes they even cuddled, even if it was super hot and all Alfred could feel was sweaty skin. But it was nice!

Looking at his pathetic boyfriend laying on the floor, he couldn’t help but grin. America could withstand the heat. Hell, he’s been in worse weather! This is perfectly normal. It’s a great day to go to the beach, but clearly someone prefers wood over sand. It’s also funny how Germany is just laying on the ground like a dead starfish. And he’s got little to no clothes on. A tanktop and boxers. If Alfred was feeling sadistic, he would turn the AC off, and test the theory of Ludwig walking around naked in his home. He totally didn’t hear that from France. And he’s totally not super curious to try it out!

But America can’t help but feel bad for his boyfriend. He knows that he isn’t used to anything above 35 degrees celsius, (95 in that special unit of measurement) so obviously he wouldn’t survive a day where it’s 5 degrees hotter. Poor thing. Alfred finally comes out of his stupor and walks down the stairs, crouching down to where his dead starfish is laying. He checks if he’s still breathing, and he thankfully is. If Ludwig was passed out, he’d probably pass out more the whole day long. America starts to poke his shoulder, trying to make him move or at least react. The only thing he gets is a groan and him adjusting his arms.

Even if Germany was laying on his stomach, he noticed some red spots on his knees and elbows. Probably from laying on the floor. He should really get off of it. This time, the American shakes him, making the other grumble louder and feeling him getting irritated. How does he know? Ludwig’s fists are trembling. Hope he doesn’t get punched in the face soon.

Alfred sighs and decides to grab him by the waist, turning him around and trying to take a look on his face. Germany has this angry, but still sleepy look on his face. His eyebrows are furrowed, but he can’t bring himself to open his blue eyes to look at his boyfriend. His teeth are gritted, and his face was obviously all red. He should’ve laid on the carpet. Even if it’s a bit warmer. Alfred stares into his face and smiles fondly, before picking up and throwing him over his shoulder. That, obviously, wakes the German up and the first thing he feels is fists against his back. “Let me down, you’re too warm!”, Germany struggles more as the other leads him to the couch, placing him rather ungently on it.

Now he feels warmer than he felt on the floor, but at least it’s much more comfortable. Until the American decided it was a great idea to jump on the suffering man. He feels a warm body on top of him, feels the smirk on that man’s face, and all he could think about is murdering his own boyfriend. “Get off!”, he yells, trying to push America off of his body without using too much power. But nothing helped, Alfred stuck to his body like glue. Just like the grin on his face. God, he wishes he could wipe it off. Asshole.

While Ludwig was struggling and fighting against him, he still stayed there, clinging onto him like Germany’s the coldest thing ever. Which he probably isn’t. But America didn’t move, just teasing the other man and having a bit of fun cuddling up to him like this. “Come on, just a minute! It ain’t that hot!”, Alfred retorts, smiling all the while. Ludwig gives up, and grumbles at the other man, who’s currently making him overheat on the couch, and gets an idea.

Germany grabs the other man by the wrists and turns them around, so that they fall off of the couch, and onto the cold floor. A yelp, and Ludwig feels much colder now that he’s on a hard surface. But it did hurt, and he feels like he’s glued to the floor with his skin. Well. Whatever. His boyfriend wanted this. If they want to cuddle, it’s going to be on the floor.

“Baby! You really are burning up, hm? Get back on the couch, I got something that can help!”, Alfred says, before trying to sit up and rubbing his back. Ouch. It hurts being thrown on the floor all of the sudden. (No shit.) He waits until Ludwig slowly stands up, and lays down on the couch, burying his face in the pillow like that’s going to help his case. America snorts, and goes to the kitchen. He gets out a few wet wipes and puts them under water to get it extra wet. He gets a whole bag of them, and goes back to the couch to his boyfriend, who is now grumbling in pain to overcome this heat. Silly Germany.

Alfred kneels down and moves the wet wipes all over the places where the other man’s skin was exposed. His face, arms, legs… It all was “cleaned” by the American, who was trying to save Ludwig from dying. Germany blinks and stares at the other dead pan. Sure, it was nice, supposedly but… What is he, a cat?

He didn’t realise that he said that out loud and sees the embarrassed expression on America’s face. Where did this come from? Is it shameful to touch your boyfriend now? “Uh. Well…This is what helps cats in the heatwave…Thought it works on you too.”, Alfred explains, before trying to laugh it off, “I mean, you kinda are like a cat! You know, all grumpy but sweet at the same time! Hey, can you meow for me-” He didn’t even get to finish that sentence before being slapped by Germany. By his sweaty, wet wiped hand. Oh well. America does deserve that.

Later in the afternoon, Germany still doesn’t move from his dead starfish pose on the couch. At least he’s not on the floor, but he does feel pity for his boyfriend. The air conditioner was as cold as it could be. He bought a ventilator for Ludwig. He bought ice cream. And still…nothing helped. He wishes he could be the hero of the day and save him from the villain called Heat. He even suggested that he could walk around naked in the house, which got him one of those glares from Germany.

Naked…huh. America gets an idea. Why didn’t he think of this earlier? The smartest idea he will ever have! He runs up to the other man and grabs him by the wrist. Ignoring the groans and complaining, they go to the bathroom and Alfred closes the door behind him. He just realised it! A cold bath!

Germany was confused. He was perfectly comfortable laying (and suffering) on the couch. Now he’s in the bathroom, where it’s…much colder and it reminded him that he didn’t even take a shower today. Which he should. It gets uncomfortable laying around smelling like a classroom of teenagers. But why is Alfred here?

“Baby, go bathe. I’ll start up the water and you just sit there and get smothered by me.”, he suggests, smiling like he did before. That sounds amazing to Ludwig. He doesn’t think twice before stripping off of his clothes, and waiting for his boyfriend to turn the faucet on. Instead he’s staring at him like it’s his first time seeing a chest. “Get a grip…What are you waiting for?”, he asks, and America immediately runs up to the bath tub and fills it up with cold water. Not freezing cold water, that’d shock Germany too much. After a couple of minutes, it’s full enough to lay down. He checks the water again for the temperature and tells Ludwig to get in.

Germany gets inside of the tub and immediately sighs, stretching out and closing his eyes. It feels like heaven. All of his worries got drowned out just because of this water. Now he feels like he isn’t heating up anymore. He feels comfortable and it’s honestly all he needed right now. “...Can I join in? Or am I too warm?”, he hears his boyfriend ask, and opens his eyes to look back at him, thinking about it.

“Join me. It’s getting kind of lonely in this bath tub anyway.”, Ludwig smiles. He doesn’t feel like being aggressive when he’s finally cooling down for the first time today. The heat does things to him. But that smile of his calms him down and lifts his mood up. Alfred comes back quickly, and he moves to make space for him. “Don’t jump in there.”, Germany warns. It did happen once. Wonder who got to clean it.

“I won’t!”, America responds, putting his feet in carefully and sitting behind the German, moving his legs to be around him. Ludwig sighs and moves closer to be against his chest, and lays himself down right there, just where he wants to be. Even if it’s warm. The contrast between the warm body and cold water calms him down, and knowing that it’s his boyfriend sitting behind him makes him happy.

Until he feels a big pile of water splashing at him. Ludwig turns back and gives him a glare, before splashing more water at him. “Hey, we didn’t go to the pool- BLEEUGH!”, Alfred yelps, choking on water.
