Work Text:
Red had checked the mirror about a gazillion times. They looked fine.. hopefully. They needed to, they were going on a date. A date with Purple. The ex-captain desperately wanted this to be perfect. They’d scrapped up as many beans as they could to get a reservation at one of the nicest restaurants in town. They were meant to be there at 7:35, meaning Red going to pick up Purple at 7:00, so they had to leave around 6:45. If Red calculated everything right it should be 6:40. Red checked the clock, “6:55, just as planned,” they grinned (?) before looking back in the mirror.
SIX FIFTY FIVE??!!
They flipped their head back to the clock make sure they’d read it right. Unfortunately they had. “Ohhh—shoot!!”, Red quickly reached for their car keyd before dashing out the door. They were meant to be on the road ten minutes ago!! They fumbled with their house keys, trying to lock it. Once the door was locked Red rushed to the car.

It was 7:10 when Red pulled up to Purple’s apartment. Ten whole minutes late… They whipped out their phone, only now seeing the multiple texts and missed calls.
*Purps💜 : Hey it’s 6:55, are you close?*
*Purps💜 : It’s 7:00, you on your way?*
*Purps💜 : Red??*
Red’s visor widened before hastily typing. ‘I’M SO SORRY I LOST TRACK OF TIME BUT I’M HERE NOW’. Red could feel themselves sweating, the date had barely started and it already sucked. They kept their visor on the door, waiting for Purple.
The door opened, Purple walking out in a beautiful dark purple, almost black, dress. A lighter purple band wrapped around their waist, which had really highlighted their figure. Purples hair was up in a slightly messy bun, a few front pieces hanging down. They walked down, slightly unsteady due to small heels. Red unlocked the car, visor unable to pull away. Purple opened the car door, slipping inside. Before they could even put their seatbelt on Red spoke, “You look stunning,” they let out a breath they didn’t know they held, visor still glued to Purple. Purple felt their face hear up, “Thanks.. you too,” they looked away, trying to hide how much Red’s words affected them.
Did Red really look that good? They wore a simple white button up with black slacks. They’d spent too much money on the dinner to think about their outfit. “Sorry for being late,” Red said, starting the car up, “I really did lose track of time,”. Purple chuckled, “Sounds like you,”. The atmosphere in the car was less awkward as simple conversation flowed between them. Red checked the time, 7:20, “We should still be there by 7:35 though. I got us a nice outdoor seating area,” Red said, tone cocky as if it didn’t take ages of saving up to get said seats. Purple turned to face Red, “You didn’t have to do that..” they sounded almost a bit upset, had Red really spent so much money on this?.. on them..? Red scoffed, “It wasn’t that difficult, just a few beans!” It was that difficult and it was months of savings, but Purps didn’t need to know that.
Red pulled up to the restaurant, 7:30, just on time. Maybe this date COULD go well-
Rain.
Not just any rain, absolutely hellish downpour. The second they were about to enter. They dashed to hide under the canopy that was above the restaurants door. “It’s fine-! This is fine! I’ll just ask to move our seats inside! No biggie!” Red said, trying not to show any drop of panic. They head inside, looking around to see other beans who were sitting outside already moving seats. By the time Red and Purple made it to the front desk, they were met with the devistating answer of, “Theres no more seats, I can refund you or reschedule you, but tonight is just fully booked,”.
The two walked to the corner of the restaurant. “Okay- so our whole date just went out the window. That’s fine.. it’s uhm… no biggie..” Red said, trying to think of what to do now. Purple was messing with their hair, trying to get the sopping wet mess to look somewhat nice. “We could.. head back to my place? Order something..?” Red mentally groaned at how painfully awkward they are. Purple looked up at Red, “Sure. I’m fine with that,”. With that the two rushed back out to the car, trying to get the least amount of wet as possible.
“Shoot, sorry, I’m getting your car all wet..” Purple mumbled, looking around were the rain covered the car’s interior. “Don’t worry about it, it’s probably been through worse,” Red said, thinking back on a few memories. Red quickly started the car up, and began driving through the absolute chaos of this rain. They stopped at a light and Red sat back in their seat, only now realizing exactly how wet they got. Their button up was completely soaked, making it a big transparent, luckily their pants weren’t as affected. “Guess I’ll have to change that,” Red mumbled, more to themselves than anything. They looked up, only to see Purple staring directly at them, face slightly flushed.
When Purple realized they were being watched, they turned their head away. Was Purple really? Red honestly felt a little flattered, “Look all you want, I was blessed with this beautiful body for a reason,” Red teased, which was only given a small ‘shut up’ in response. The light turned green, but only let three cars go before turning red again. Good god was everything just trying to ruin today?! Red grumbled before looking at their phone, seeing a text from Green.
*Green: How’s the date going??*
Red grimaced, the date was going horribly.. they typed back, ‘Not all that good, pouring down rain and the restaurant became fully booked. Heading to my place’. Red set their phone back down, the light now green. This date was going so bad, it almost hurt to think about it. What would Purple think of them, barely able to plan a good date? Couldn’t.. fix a reactor… couldn’t do a lot…. Red pushed away their many self worth thoughts. Be sad later, pull of a good date now.
Red pulled up to their house ten-ish minutes later, the both dashed to the dry land by the door. They hoped they’d cleaned their place earlier, that it was somewhat presentable. The door clicked open and they were met with… with dim romantic light and a trail of rose leading to a table of two? This was most certainly not how Red left their house. Low and behold Green stoof there too, hair somewhat nicley done, they wore a clip on tie over their usual hoodie. They also had a marker drawn mustache. Green cleared their throat, “Welcome.. to uh..” They thought for a second, “Restaurant- el.. Restaurant..”. Their accent was a mix of so many different ones, it was clear how insanely last minute this was.
Purple turned to Red, “Did you plan this?”. Red turned to Purple, “Uhhh.. yes..”, Purple raised an eyebrow (?), “No- no not at all. When did you get here?” Red asked Green. To which the bean said, “That does not matter— but I believe we have some seats open..” Green gestured to the table, that was covered in a white sheet and fake candles, as well as some roses. Red looked from the table, to Green, to Purple. They sighed, “After you,” they said, making room for Purple. Purple snickered, “You’re seriously playing along?”. Red shrugged, “Hey this is a lot better than eating take out on my crappy couch,”.
Purple walked inside, Red followed behind. Red pulled a seat out, “M’lady,”, Purple laughed, sitting down, “Right because you’re such a romantic..”. The ex-captain took the seat across Purple. White walked up to the two, they also wore a clip on bow tie, “Here are your menus,” White handed the two pieces of paper. White was also talking with an accent, similar to Greens. In which the menu had one option, pizza. Red looked at White, “How many people are in my house??”. White simply ignored the question and walked back into the kitchen.
Red tried to look past the wall to see how many people were exactly inside but Purple pulled them back. “This is ridiculous,” they said, looking around, “But you’re right. This is better than take out on your crappy couch. Do you still have the same one from when we were interns?” They asked, trying to make out what the couch looked like, but the only lighting was the fake candles sprawled around the room. “If isn’t broke don’t fix it right?” Red said, shrugging. Purple snorted, “It is broke— theres like springs sticking out of it,”. Red’s face flushed, “It’s still comfortable- okay- that’s all that matters!”.
The two kept talking before White came back with a note pad. “Are you two ready to order?”. It was hard not to when you could only order one thing… Red looked up at White, “I think we’ll just do the pizza.. You don’t happen to have any wine do you?”. Stupid question, it was White, the bean always had wine with ‘em. “Of course, would you two like some?”. They both nodded, White wrote something down before talking their menus, “I’ll be right back with your drinks.” With that, White went back to the kitchen. Red looked back at Purple, “Anyway, where was I?—“ The sound of a glass shattering, followed by a lot more than two voices talking. Red sighed, “Theres so many people in my house— I don’t even remember giving anyone a house key..”.
White returned with two wine glasses, “Here you go, your food will be out shortly,”. Red took a sip, “Oh— wow.. this tastes.. expensive,” they said, looking at the alcohol. Purple took a sip, “Oh wow it does.. I guess I should have expected it from White..”. The two continued to get lost in conversation before Cyan came out, their speaker with them, as well as Black. In the same stupid accent as everyone else, “If you allow me, we’ve prepared a list of romantic songs to help keep the mood up,” they set the speaker down, turning it on, it took a few seconds but something began playing. ‘Welcome to meditation yoga with Cyan. This is going to help—‘, Black quickly grabbed the speaker, pressing a few buttons before setting down again. This actual jazz played. Black pushed Cyan out of the room and back into the kitchen.
Purple sighed, “This makes me think of Blue.. Wish we could see ‘em more often but they always have work,” they thought back to their time on The Skeld and how attractive the doctor is. Red grumbled to themself, something that sounded like ‘stupid.. hot doctor..’. Purple scoffed, “Wha- are you jealous?” They asked, tone slightly teasing. Red blushed, “No..” They averted their gaze. Purple laughed, “Oh come on, Red, we all found Blue hot!! You did too!” Purple said, recalling the many times everyone swooned over the doc. Red huffed, pouting like a child, “‘t’s different…”. Purple rolled their visor (?), “Whatever you say Redsie,”.
White eventually brought the pizza out, “Here is your pizza. Do enjoy,”. The food did look delicious. Almost too delicious, which lead Red to think Yellow and Brown lurked in their house too.

The food was really good, which had solidified Red’s theory. White came back and took their plates, “This meal is on the house. Feel free to leave whenever you’d like,”. White then left. The two stayed for a bit, still chatting away. Purple looked at the clock, “It’s getting kinda late.. I should probably head out, Heracles Jr. get’s lonely,” Purple stood up. Red followed, “Well we certainly can’t have that,”. Green opened the door for them, “Come back soon!” They called out as the left, as if it wasn’t Red’s house.
Luckily the rain had stopped, so they were able to take their time going to the car. The drive to Purple’s was a lot smoother, not only had the weather calmed down, but they had to. They didn’t talk too much in the car, but they did enjoy eachother’s presence. Red pulled up to Purple’s apartment, “Here I’ll walk you up,” Red said, truly just not wanting to leave Purple just yet. The two walked up to the door.. “Thank you for everything,” Purple said, looking up at Red. Red rubbed the back of their neck, “It was my pleasure! Thank you for letting me take you out,” Red said looking at Purple. “Guess we really should thank everyone else huh..?” Red chuckled. Purple nodded, “Guess we should..”.
An awkward silence took over them, “Sorry that everything didn’t go as planned..” Red said, thinking back on the beginning half of the date. “No- don’t be! I still had a good time.. if anything I’m disappointed your shirt dried so fast..” They grinned (?) at Red’s face flushing.
The awkwardness returned.. this is the part of the date where.. y’know. Red swallowed the lump in their throat, “C-Can I kiss you??” They blurted out, because wow that was smooth. Purple’s face got hot, but they nodded. Red honestly had no clue what they were doing, they couldn’t remember the last time they’d kissed anyone. Instinctively, Red placed a hand on Purple cheek. Purple rolled their visor(?), wrapped their arms around Red’s neck to pull them lower and kissed them. It took Red a moment to process anything, but once they did they kissed back. Their other hand going to Purples waist. Red had beem dreaming of this very moment since they were simple interns. They could hear the fireworks going off in their head. Purple pulled away, their breath soft.. “What uhm…” Purple said, looking down before back at Red, “What does this make us..?”.
Red stared at Purple for a bit, taking in their question.. “Partners..?”. Purple nodded, “Partners,”.
