Thanks Loveathasminfic for today's beta.

This one's less a story and more a sugar cube

Work Text:

Yaz walks towards the console room, a little uncertain of her route still. Graham and Ryan have gone to bed, exhausted from a day full of giant spiders, but Yaz feels like her entire body is buzzing.

She runs her fingers along the walls of the TARDIS, feeling welcome.

She pauses. Why do I feel that way?

A surge of wellbeing hits her, and she shrugs and moves on.

She finds the Doctor at the console, talking quietly to her ship.

“I know you did it on purpose. I know I shouldn't be alone, but you can't just kidnap - Yaz!”

“Hi,” Yaz says. She doesn't know why, but the Doctor smiling at her makes her blush.

“Couldn't sleep?”

Yaz shakes her head, and the Doctor gives her the softest smile she's ever seen. Her chest is full of… something, and all she can do is smile back.

“Come with me,” the Doctor says, and she takes Yaz's hand and pulls her to the TARDIS doors.

She throws them open and Yaz squeaks, flinching away from the vacuum of space.

The Doctor smirks, and Yaz rolls her eyes.

“You should tell people there's some sort of shield before you do that.”

"Yeah well… I'm afraid I used to be a bit of an arsehole an’ it's not completely out of me system yet,” the Doctor says, looking a little sheepish. “Sorry. Sit with me?”

Yaz does, dangling her legs out of the TARDIS door side-by-side with the Doctor.

“Why do I feel so… welcome?” she asks, staring out at the planet they're orbiting.

“Ah. The TARDIS likes you.”

“The TARDIS can like people?”

“Course she can. She loves me, an’ she likes you. I've had friends she hasn't liked so much. She makes judgments and has her own very definite opinions about where she goes, and even about what her name is.”

“What does she say her name is?” Yaz asks, fascinated.

“...Never mind. Pretend I didn't say anything.” The Doctor's blushing now, and Yaz thinks her cheeks might be the prettiest shade of pink she's ever seen.

“Thank you,” she says. “For letting us stay.”

“Never have to thank me for that,” the Doctor says with that soft smile back on her lips. “Thank you for wanting to stay.”

“And miss all this?” Yaz says, sweeping an arm to indicate the beautiful sight before them. “More time with you is everything I want.”

She rests her head against the doorframe, feeling the warmth of the Doctor's thigh pressed against hers, and realises that this is exactly where she wants to be.

Notes:

I made it through the whole weeeek! I'm so proud!
