Work Text:
Only a short few minutes ago, we've just recovered Dr. Mann and his data about his planet.
The air here isn't filled with oxygen, but ammonia.
The gravity is 80% of earth's.
And apparently, a surface with breathable air.
It was quite promising beside the fact that the surface we're walking on is a completely barren tundra.
But I couldn't scourer a feeling that it was a lie.

After what happened on Miller's planet, it was hard to focus on the present.
Doyle, was only inches away from entering the safety of the ship, but the wave had killed him and left me with two bickering astronauts that kept fighting the whole time we were waiting there.
"Y/N..."
They seemed to only really care about the data from Miller, or the fact Brand was willing to be left there on that planet rather than the fact Doyle just fucking died.
"Y/N" the sudden feeling of a hand on my shoulder snapped me out of my thoughts and now I was looking up at Cooper. "You alright? We're just about to head out."
"Yeah...yeah, I'm good, just thinking," I pause, before continuing on, "just thinking about how this'll go, all the possibilities and stuff..."
That answer seemed to satisfy him, and everyone in the room.
With the readings that Mann gave us about his planet, Mann and Cooper were planning to layout some ground, to find a suitable site to prepare for plan B.
__
Staring right at Mann, it almost seemed like he was lying to us about his readings.
And it seemed he knew as well, given the fact of how he was looking at me, with a sick look in his eyes.
I could tell he was planning something, it was just a matter of time when, and where.
After much consideration, I began to walk over towards Mann and Cooper, I have no idea what I'll be planning, but I'll have to do something the very least.
turning towards a slow jog as I made my way towards them both despite not really knowing what to say, or do, the very least.
*CRACK*
The loud sound of ice beginning to give way made heads turn directly towards me.
My body had stopped moving before I even registered what was going on.
Glancing down, I could see a very noticeable crack in the ice, and it did nothing to calm my fast beating heart.
I could see both Cooper and Mann beginning to come towards me, I was absolutely terrified and the cracks in the ice only slowly began to grow.
It almost seemed like my mouth had a mind of its own, "Dr. Mann..." I began to say, "are you, one-hundred percent positive, you check every inch of this planet..?"
There was a pause,
And it was very deafening.
"I-i... Uhh," I heard him say, "no, KIPP began to malfunction before we could finish getting more information about this planet."
That immediately made my heart sink into my stomach.
Oh how screwed I felt in this situation.
"Alright, Y/N?" Cooper began, "I'm gonna need you to slowly back up, alright?"
All I could really do is nod, worried the pain in my voice would be too prominent, because really, one wrong step could most likely bring me to the end of my own life, considering we don't know how deep this hole is.
As I slowly began to follow his instructions, I moved rather slowly, and the more cracks in the ice made my heart beat harder against my chest, and my breath slowly became erratic.
"Good, that's good, you're almost there. Just breathe."
'𝘐 𝘢𝘮' I thought to myself, but he was only trying to help of course, and I knew that. But it was hard to focus on breathing when I could literally die if I stepped in the wrong spot.
Before I realized it, the cracking in the ice subsided and my nerves began to die down.
Letting out a deep sign, I immediately rested my hands on my knees, knowing I basically faced death in the eye.
"Holy shit," I let out a chuckle, "holy shit, that was absolutely terrifying!-"
And once again, another loud crack came from under me, louder than the one before, my heart immediately sank as I watched the ground give way from under me, and my crew mates immediately dashing towards me as I fell through the floor.
How comedically timed.
