Work Text:
Katsuki knew that the moment he’d walked near the entrance of the school campus, something was off. Maybe it had to do with the atmosphere; hell, even the upper-and underclassmen were acting unusually. He’d thought his ears would bleed from the amount of squeals, mixed with ‘thank yous,' he’d heard every time an extra was near him in the hallway; a scoff always present on his face for each time it happened.
One thing he’d always noticed with these reactions is that they always had to do with gifting. Which he didn’t really care for, but on this particular day, nothing about the date stood out.
Katsuki hadn’t stayed in the dorms for the last couple of days since he’d wanted to stay with his old hag instead. Most importantly, he needed his own space for once, since the dorms had begun to become optional by their second year. It was convenient to stay near his parents more often than not.
He hadn’t really been paying attention to most of his classmates in class for the last couple of days either because of his work study. which had been anything but busy, but that’s what to be expected from Best Jeanist. Dammit, Katsuki never thought the only time he chooses not to listen to his classmates, it would come back and bite him in the ass. Katsuki, after all, prided himself on the fact he’s so perceptive in the first place, as he gritted his teeth.
“Hey, Bakugou!” Kirishima yelled from behind him before throwing his arms around his shoulders, “Getting to class without me?”
Katsuki pushed Kirishima aside. “Energetic, huh?”
Kirishima chuckled while scuffing up his own hair. “Ah, well, I’m just in a good mood, man.” He smiled. “How’s it been?”
"Fine," Katsuki answered bluntly. That was true — he had been keeping up on most things in his life; between the training, work, and physical therapy, he managed to keep himself on track in all the things he’d wanted. Katsuki wasn't lacking in any area, that's for sure.
“That’s the spirit!” Kirishima replied. “Y’know, I wanted to give you something, between friends and all.” He then pulled a keychain from his pocket and tossed it to him. "For you, Bakubro!"
Katsuki caught the keychain, which had featured a single grenade design on it with little explosions on the side, clearly meant to represent the gauntlets he wears on his hero suit. “What’s this, Shitty hair?”
Kirishima's expression didn’t change one bit, still carrying that happy-go-lucky attitude. “It’s a keychain, I made one for you and Kaminari. You said you wouldn’t mind it, right?"
Katsuki found his voice faltering for some god-forsaken reason, "No shit, I got eyes for a reason, I'll put it in my bag." He grumbled, taking one more glance at the keychain before shoving it in his pocket, “Thanks or whatever.”
“It's no problem, man!” Kirishima replied, with his sharp teeth gleaming across his face, "I'm just glad you like it."
“Tch.”
Katsuki didn’t know how, but somehow the smile on Kirishima’s face grew bigger. As they walked side-by-side, he’d found himself playing with the keychain in his pocket, and once Kirishima entered the class, once Katsuki was sure he wasn’t looking, his lip curved upwards slightly at the thought.
