Chapter Text
Luffy had learned from a young age that she wasn't allowed to be small, that she wasn't allowed to be vulnerable or weak, and definitely not as a girl or a child.
Before she could even count, she had learned that being small gets you killed in this world, that being vulnerable means death or something worse, that she had to protect herself since no one else would.
It hadn't been easy, she had thought about giving up multiple times, but she wanted to live, she wanted to experience so much, and if she was dead, she'd never be able to.
She was then given two little sisters, and both seemed far too naive for her taste, they may have held darkness in their eyes, but they still shined with the light of children who hadn't had to yet fight to survive.
—
Luffy stared at the little girls her shitty gramps had brought over to Dadan's hut “what… the fuck?”
The black haired girl had freckles all over her face while the blonde had a tophat… for some reason.
Before she could think more on it, she was hit hard on the head “HEY YA’ STUPID BRAT! WATCH YER LANGUAGE!”
“Ow! Fuck off!”
Before she could get hit again, Dadan finally recovered from her shock “Garp! Where the hell did these two brats come from!?”
Garp put down the brats, placing a hand on top of their heads, well… one head and the top of a tophat “THESE ARE MY OTHER GRANDKIDS, ACE AND SABO! AND FROM NOW ON” he always shouted so loud “YER SISTERS!”
Luffy… froze at that, but the Bandits didn't.
“What! I'm not takin’ care o’ more brats!”
Garp picked his ear before saying “never said you ‘ave t’, lil’ Luffy's old enough to look after ‘em now anyway!”
That ripped her out of her shock “WHAT!” She stared wide-eyed at him and the two girls that now stood in front of him “Gramps! Don't be stupid! I'm not lookin’ after ‘em! I don't ev'n like brats!”
Garp still looked unconcerned as he continued to pick his ear “well, it's either you or i take ‘em with me”
The two girls jumped before looking wide-eyed at her, and she already knew she'd never willingly leave two little brats with her batshit insane gramps.
Neither of them looked too enthused at the idea either.
She slowly melted.
—
She looked at the brats ‘Ace’ and ‘Sabo’, they looked back at her too.
They sat inside the Bandits hut as Dadan said they could get one day where they could acclimate before she threw them onto her.
Ace seemed like she didn't want to be here, glaring at Luffy while hiding Sabo behind her slightly.
She was a cute kid, freckles dotted everywhere while wearing a red tank top, black shorts and old black shoes, her hair reached her upper back and she also had a pink hibiscus in it. She also had an arm brace, begrudgingly concerning her.
Sabo seemed to at least not be glaring at her, (since she technically saved them from staying with Garp) she was looking at everything with curiosity in her wide eyes.
She was adorable, with her too big hat and short, wavy blonde hair that barely touched her shoulders. She also looked a bit like a noble, with a blue jacket on top of a dark blue shirt with a… napkin tucked in for some reason? She also had on blue shorts with a belt, white socks and black boots.
She glared back at Ace.
“Who the fuck are you?” Ace spat out before Sabo elbowed her in the ribs, causing her to shift her glare to Sabo while clutching the spot she hit.
“Don't be rude you idiot!”
“I'm not an idiot!, an’ i was jus’ askin’ a question!”
“If you're not an idiot then why do you keep acting like one!”
“Says you, fucker!”
“Yea says me ‘cause I'm not the fucking idiot demanding things from someone we don't know!”
“I wasn't demanding anything! All i asked was-”
Luffy cracked a smile as she watched the two bicker, they seemed to forget she was still there.
She let out a small chuckle.
They both immediately shut their mouths and whip their heads to stare at her with wide eyes.
She doesn't know why her shitty gramps decided she'd be the best to take care of them, and she still didn't really know if she wanted to, even if it was a bit late now.
But… She's decided, she'd at the very least try.
Try to be there for two kids in the way nobody was for her, in the way nobody seemed to be for these two either.
They were her responsibilities now, her little sisters, and even though she's never had sisters before, it… feels right.
Somehow.
