Chapter 1: Don’t make cupcakes without a recipe

Chapter Text

It was just an ordinary Saturday afternoon when Ocean and Constance were chatting on the phone.

”I feel like we only ever hang out with everybody at choir practice!” Constance remarked

”We just need to organize something and force them along!” Ocean exclaimed.

Ocean enjoyed organizing things, especially if it meant seeing Constance!

After chatting for a while, the two girls decide that they will host a choir meet up at Constance’s house to bake cupcakes.

Sadly, Penny and Ricky already had plans to go to the museum together, however, everyone else agreed! After messaging for a bit, they decided to meetup at 2:00 pm.

*After everyone arrived at Constance’s house.*

Ocean started pulling out supplies and ingredients.

”So what recipe are we following?” Noel asked, sounding more bored than a five year old waiting for their mom to finish chatting with an old friend they ran into at Walmart.

”None!” Ocean replied enthusiastically

The entire choir turned to face Ocean.

”What do you mean no recipe!?” Noel cautiously replied

”I believe we will all bond more if we don’t use a recipe and just trust each other!" Ocean remarked

”That is worst idea I have ever heard.” Mischa added.

”Weeeellllllll….” Ocean started, grabbing Constance by the shoulders and pulling her side. “Just so you know Constance agrees with me!”

Constance nodded her head enthusiastically.

After a few minutes of debate Noel and Mischa decided on to just follow Ocean’s lead, not wanting to have extra work at choir practice next time, and so, they started baking.

First they added flour, then sugar, then salt… but then things took a slight turn when it got to vanilla. Noel saw two bottles of vanilla extract in the pantry, both of them were identical. Without thinking, he grabbed the one closest to him. Big mistake. He passed the vanilla to Ocean. She opened up the bottle…

”OH MY GOD!” Ocean shrieked

The three others took a few steps forward, and quickly turned their heads away, faces relished with disgust.

”Noel, PLEASE tell me there was another vanilla in there!” Ocean asked desperately

Noel, interested in how this would play out, replied, “Nope! Didn’t see one!”

”I swear, if you're lying I will remove you from my will!!”

“You have a will?!” Constance, Mischa and Noel all replied at the same time.

”More importantly, I’m in it??” Noel asked, clearly not expecting it

”You all are, but we can talk about that another time! I want to finish these cupcakes!” Ocean shouted in reply, probably a bit too fast for comfort.

Ocean sighed deeply and poured the probably expired vanilla extract into the bowl.

After putting the rest of the ingredients into the bowl, which included some not too good looking eggs, and baking powder that smelt like something radioactive, Constance put the cupcakes in the oven and set a 15 minute timer.

They all stood around the dining table and talked about how they thought the cupcakes would turn out.

“Not good.” Mischa decided

”They are going to turn out so bad, your Christmas cake will look like a five course meal!” Noel snarked, glancing at Ocean

”I’m sure they won’t be too bad, and besides, even if they are, at least we all hung out!” Constance said, trying to lighten the mood

“I don’t know what to think about the cupcakes, but Constance is right! Us spending time together and hanging out is all that matters!” Ocean remarked
