Work Text:

“But I don't want to go on a blind date. The appearance of a person is the number one attraction factor and predictor for a relationship.” says Hermione, to her friend Ginny Weasley's reminder that today is the day she's going on a blind date.

The latter smiles brightly, whilst holding an equally bright knife. She's standing in her kitchen, making sandwiches, but she is not opposed to using what she has to make a point. Or a threat. Hermione will be going on this date, especially after she went through hell (and a Hero's Journey) to set it up.

“Girl, just think of it as an opportunity to get all dressed up. Make like it's the Yule Ball all over again.” Is her advice and sign off.

Well Hermione understands how to do that, at least, and obediently trots off, plans for physical perfection formulating in her head. When it comes to how she dresses, she possesses two modes, fraternal twins, Librarian & Debutante. Both are highly attractive, as proven by Viktor Krum, who was equally enchanted with both, so deciding which one to apply really depends on how bothered she can be to apply the Sleekeazy’s.

“Ginny said the chap she set me up with is very good looking and chill…so I wonder…” mutters the witch to herself as she wanders around her bedroom, back and forth in front of her wardrobe. It contains very few outfits, at least compared to the majority of Womankind.

Just for the fun of it, and because Ginny will blush when she imagines that her friend took her advice literally, Hermione plumps for the Yule Ball look. She can no longer fit into her actual Yule Ball dress, but such a problem is solved by a quick and dirty hem expansion charm. With that done she turns to the most arduous of her date tasks - taming her hair. It sounds like it shouldn't be difficult, nowhere near as difficult as helping to defeat Voldemort, but there you'd be very, very wrong. Voldemort had only six (or seven) horcruxes, and once they were destroyed it was all over for him, but her hair is immortal, at least for as long as she lives.

“There. Time to go blow a man's socks off.” Taking one last look in the mirror attached to the back of her bedroom door, Hermione flounces out of her flat, the ruffles of her dress floating along behind her, her hands holding the skirt off the floor.

Working for the Ministry as a liaison to its Japanese counterpart is very interesting, even if the ways of the locals irritate very often. And people think the English are cold and suppressed? Compared to the Japanese Hermione's people are extreme extroverts. Thank God she has Ginny around to take the edge off, the youngest Weasley having been ‘bought’ by the national Japanese quidditch team. Being who she is, the redhead has made many friends during her stay, many male friends especially. The one she is attempting to set up with her former school friend is named ‘Kamikaze’, something she finds suits Hermione down to the ground.

“He's also a hero.” she said, by way of explanation.

“Okay. Well, he'd best be able to hold a conversation.” Hermione says to herself, when she takes a seat beside an anime themed fountain in the park she's due to meet her date at. Her looks and foreignness cause everyone passing by to stare at her, but she cracks a book open and ignores them. Above her head, the clouds swirl grey, darkening severely in the space of a few minutes, the leaves on the trees rattling in the rapidly approaching storm. That was not in the weather forecast.

Sandals crunch over leaf litter and the stone pathway underneath. “Dad, stop it. Don't you want grandchildren?” says a deep male voice.

Looking up from her tome, Hermione sweeps her gaze up the figure and into the face of a samurai. The sight is so impressive and unexpected that she falls back into the fountain.

“Ah!”

Like the hero he is, by nature as well as by profession, Atomic Samurai leaps in after her, pulling her to the surface just as a bolt of lightning strikes the water.

“Ahhhh!!!” Scream two sets of throats, their screams lost under the whipcrack boom of electricity.

When they emerge from the fountain, stumbling over the stone lip across which gambols one hundred and fifty pocket monsters, the pair emerge unharmed, but changed. Hermione attempts to dry them both off with a spell, but instead whips her wand back and forth like a sword, while Kamikaze experiences an urge to cast sectumsempra on everything he sees.
