Work Text:

Boomie fixed his inventory, honestly he didn’t know what they could’ve done better. The two had teamed up which wasn’t something Rat had accounted for which caused there plan to go to shit.

Standing there with Rat after what had happened made Boomie uneasy. Mugm had been beside him as much as the other could but even still it did nothing to hide away the fear he felt.

“I don’t know what you expected us to do! They had the thing they could use to teleport.” Galaxy snapped

Galaxy. Boomie hadn’t been able to tell the younger just how much vanguard 1 was capable of. What he could do. Mugm knew because Boomie hadn’t been able to calm down. He could still feel his heart pounding fast because of the other.

“Even still! You didn’t do anything either!”

Boomie saw the look that flashed in Rats face. The way the other looked angry. Boomie didn’t even remember splashing speed, and a panicked noise coming from him.

Strong arms gripped around him and moved Boomie behind them and he quivered. Embarrassing. Embarrassing and Weak. He could see the terror that flashed in Galaxy’s eyes before it was gone.

Replaced by a neutral expression until Rat flew away and he practically collapsed. Small cries and whimpers leaving the demon as he gripped his chest letting out small wheezes.

Boomie still held tight to Mugm but once his brain realized Galaxy couldn’t breathe he stepped away. Mugm rushed forward, kneeling in front of Galaxy with concern as the hybrid continued to wheeze.

“Galaxy. Focus on me.” Mugm said, grabbing one of Galaxy’s wrist and pressing the demon's hand to his chest.

Galaxy sobbed, hands shaking and Boomie could see how lost MugM looked. Boomie moved forward and knelt in front of Galaxy. He knew from experience how scary it was to feel the armor break. The way Rat could speed up heart rates.

“Galaxy, I know it seems really scary right now. You aren’t going to die though. You’re not replaceable. He’s wrong.” Boomie said, pressing a warm hand to Galaxy’s forehead.

Galaxy shivered, the wheezes softening slightly and he rested his head against Mugm's shoulder as he trembled.

“Galaxy? How do you feel now?” Mugm asked, carefully wrapping his arm across the others back.

Galaxy sniffled, “Okay..”

Boomie fell silent knowing the conversation with Mugm wasn’t going to be pretty.

“Why would you do something like that?” MugM hissed out, "Challenging him like that? Do you want to die Galaxy?”

Galaxy flinched, he tried pulling away from Mugm. Boomie assumed it was guilt or fear of Mugm being mad at him, but MugM tightened his grip around Galaxy.

“Do not EVER do that again. Am I clear? Don’t something that STUPID with Vanguard one of all people Galaxy.” Mugm hissed, Boomie recognized the hidden concern though. Stormz would do the same for him too.

Stormz. Boomie shivered. He still remembered staring at his mentors cold body, the way Rat said everyone was replaceable. The cold touch on the back of his neck-

“Boomie?”

Boomie wasn’t weak. He wasn’t weak enough to need Mugm’s help. Although he could feel his own eyes water as he stepped back leaning against a wall.

Stormz’s body had been there. Rat had shown it to him after he lost against Galaxy. Had given him the warning of being replaceable. Boomie made a choked off noise. He wasn’t scared of being replaced. That was Galaxy’s thing.

“Boomie. Can you hear me?”

Boomie's hands tightened at his sides and the tears fell. He wouldn’t ever see Stormz again. Revival eyes were gone, Rat wouldn’t revive him, he knew nobody would give him a revival eye if they even had one.

His mentor was gone and there was nothing he could do about it. Stormz- he had to have known he was going to die. He had done so much with Boomie the day before.

Boomie let out gasp, his face stringing, he opened his eyes, staring at Mugm with wide eyes. He moved a shaky hand up to his cheek where a hand print mark rested.

“Can you hear me Boomie?” MugM said, voice low with concern. Boomie's eyes moved to the half awake Galaxy on Mugm’s back.

“Yeah.” Boomie cleared his throat, looking at the ground.

“Did you hear what I said?” Mugm asked, shifting Galaxy on his back.

Boomie wilted and shook his head no. He wasn’t meant to be the sensitive one. He was better than Galaxy on that front.

“We are going to go back to my room.” Mugm said, he left no room for argument so Boomie followed.

Galaxy remained half awake, pressing his head into Mugm’s shoulder and keeping his shaky arms around Mugm’s neck.

Boomie followed, watching the tower come back into view. Mugm led them to his room, though it was more showing Boomie since Galaxy was asleep now.

Mugm opened the door and made quick work of moving to the couch. He shifted and slowly placed Galaxy on the cushions. His white eyes watched Galaxy curl up into a tight ball.

“Galaxy is gonna get hurt.” Boomie finally spoke. His voice was soft, and his hands moved to his hair.

“He thinks he’s replaceable. Rat knew that.” Mugm snarled, his fist connecting to the wall. Boomie just watched, blinking slowly. He had never seen Mugm show so much emotion at once.

“Is that why Rat told him he’s replaceable? I thought that was weird. Frankly Galaxy wasn’t wrong with the words he spoke.” Boomie said, his own glare going at the wall.

Mugm sighed, running his hands through Galaxy’s hair. He seemed content to remain silent. Boomie didn’t blame him.

Boomie hesitated before moving to the couch curling up in the corner and scrolling on his communicator. Mugm sat beside Galaxy’s head, his own hands continuing to mess with Galaxy’s hair. His eyes remained firm so Boomie looked away.

Boomie’s eyes focused on Stormz’s contact with his communicator. He hesitated a moment before clicking on it. Past messages filled his screen and his shoulders relaxed slightly.

Stormz:,You did good today, im proud of how much you’ve grown and matured through our time together

Boomie rubbed his face looking up and blinking at Mugms eyes are already on him.

“You should rest. Nufuli and Slushly might be back anytime and we both know that Rat is gonna make us help.” MugM said, tying Galaxy’s hair into a small braid.

“Did Stormz know he was going to die?” Boomie asked, his hands tightening on his com.

MugM paused, staring down at Galaxy as he thought.

“Stormz knew there was a possibility.”

Boomie blinked, his hands shaking as a small sound of pain left him and he cried into his hands. He didn’t want Galaxy to have the same fate as Stormz.

“Galaxy won’t die, Boomie.” Mugm said, his voice low.

Boomie cried harder, “How can you be so sure?”

Mugm looked at Boomie, watching the other cry and he moved his own hand to his students neck. His hand feeling the younger pulse.

“Because he’s my student. I won’t let him die.”
