The world was ending.
Everyone was going to die, there's no other way to explain this.
The apocalypse was coming today.
Those were the only explanations Ace Trappola could find in response to what just happened.
The Housewarden congratulated him.
His Housewarden, THE RIDDLE ROSEHEARTS, had just congratulated him. And you'll ask
" Ace, isn’t that a good thing?"
And any other day, he would say "yes, absolutely", because it isn’t usual for the Teapot Tyrant to say something nice to him.
But not today, not on fucking Valentine’s Day.
He was freaking out. He was playing videogames on the TV at the common room when Yuu and Deuce came by, they told him something but he hadn’t listened to it. And when they left, Cater, Trey and Riddle showed up, and Riddle told him the two words that made chills run down his spine.
He stood up and prepared for class.

While walking throught the seven's statues he saw Jack a few steps ahead and noticed his tail wagging non-stop.
-Something happened?- he asked while aproaching the beastman who simply smiled at him
-Epel invited me on a date tonight- he said happily - We'll go to the monstro lounge. Rook-senpai, Vil-senpai, Housewar- i mean Leona-san and Ruggie-senpai will be there too-.
Ace was happy for his friend and for his senpai's, who came back from their interships just for today, thanks to Crowley's "Generous" soul.
-I'm happy for you, man. Enjoy a nice night with your boyfriend- he said with a nice smile... that turned into a grin when he whispered in the wolf's ear - and don’t forget the protection-
-ACE! - The scream was loud enough to challenge Sebek's. He ran before the other boy could grab him.
As he arrived to the classroom, he found Deuce and Yuu at the door. Yuu was talking tr someone, and that someone was--- MALLEUS DRACONIA?!?!
Ace froze in his place and saw as the fae gave the prefect flowers, they smiled at each other before the dragon teleported himself away.
-Okay - he said loud enough to announce his presence - What just happened? -
-Horntorn invited me on a date, a Triple date actually, with Silver, Sebek and their respective partners, and i'm pretty sure Lilia'll tag along - they said with a soft smile and a dreamy look on rheir eyes.
-Aww, look at you, so in love with possibly the scariest person on campus- said Ace mockingly.
Deuce was quiet during the whole ordeal, throwing glances at Ace, which said boy at first found weird but didn’t pay mich attention. After all, if his crush was looking at him, who was him to tell him to stop?
After Vil's OB, he started to see the spade differently, and after the dream world, he realized, surprisingly, that he was in love with Deuce Spade, and not being able to see him in the holidays had hurt like a bitch, but coming back to school and seeing him was amazing. The boy had pierced his ears, his hair was a bit longer and his smile made Ace turn cherry-red, and that they now have a room for just the two of them didn’t help the redhead very much. But he had promised himself that before his second-year comes to an end, he'll tell Deuce what his feelings are.

When the lunch bell rang, the three friends and the cat were alredy out of the classroom.
At the cafeteria, they saw most couples sitting together.
Rook and Vil were in their own world talking, while Epel looked at Jack from across the room, and the wolf reciprocated while Ruggie was stuffing food into his mouth, with no lion to be seen. So Ace assumed he was sleeping in the greenhouse. On top of the stairs, the Diasomnia boys could be found with three additionals. Silver was listening to Idia rambling with a very loving look on his aurora eyes, Sebek and Skully where talking (AT A REGULAR VOLUME, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?) While holding hand. Lilia was entertaining Ortho along with Malleus, who explained to the young shroud how his magic used to work before his OB. Ortho was happy to be included and Idia looked at him from time to time to make sure he was okay and comfortable.
Further down, you could see in one table Scarabia and most of Octavinelle. Kalim and Jade were holding hands and talking excitedly, while Jamil "ignored" Azul's talking attemps, but hus hand was on the octopus thigh, so it was a bit difficult to know what was going on between them.
Finally, the heartslabyul table. Riddle sat in front of Floyd (who ditched his brother and housewarden for his boyfriend), who was talking softly to him, Riddle's smile was full of love at the Eel. On the corner, you could find Trey and Cater, the latter's head on the vice's shoulder, who talked softly to the diamond, and Cater followed the conversation without moving his head.
The trio sat down at their table without making eye contact with the couples.
-So - started Yuu - it looks like we'll have a lovely night, right? - they said while giving both card soldiers a wink. Deuce blushed and looked away.
– I-I-'m going to grab something to drink - said the spade, who then looked at the heart - you want something, Ace? -
-Nah, i'm good, Loosey-Deuce - he answered with a slight blush on his cheeks.
When Deuce left, the prefect looked at Ace with a mischievous smile - Excited for tonight, Acey?- Grim laughed at the question, Ace just looked at them. He thought no one cared about his tonight, but he was happy Yuu remembered.
Now, you may be asking what has gotten him excited for tonight, and he will happily tell you all about his favourite videogame, one that bases on ranking and events, one that he tried to get everyone to play, one that tonight was hosting a Valentine’s Day event, one that if he won, would give him more points and get him to surpass his brother's score, So yes, he was excited. He had thought that no once cared, but he was happy Yuu remembered. He suddenly remembers what Riddle had told him in the morning, so now, he thought that his Housewarden had remembered it and congratulated him for getting into the event (only those with certain ranking could do it), he found it weird that Riddle remembered something from a videogame, a mind draining device he had said, but accepted it.
-Yeah! Of course i am, I wouldn’t miss such an important event for nothing, right? - he smiled at them.
Yuu grinned at his answer, which, Wow!, his friends were coming along now, and he was happy for it. Deuce came by and sat down beside him, and the heart blushed a bit but managed to keep it cool. Deuce's face was a bit red, but he paided no mind to it, since he always blushed when they were together, he was always nervous and Ace never looked for a deeper meaning.
-Soo, where will you go tonight, Yuu? - Deuce asked them, Yuu smiled and went on a ramble about which restaurant and ruins they were going with their dragon prince. Meanwhile, Ace couldn’t help but stare at Deuce, seeing how his face never stayed the same for more than ten seconds, and Ace found it very cute and made him fall harder for the blue haired boy.

After class, he went to the basketball club and found his Housewarden and Azul there too. Floyd was hugging Riddle while he talked with Azul about Jade, meanwhile, Jamil was hugging Azul's waist from behind and hidding his face in the mer's neck.
-wow! Cool way to make a guy feel left out - they looked at Ace and Floyd grinned, he opened his mouth to say something but Riddle covered it, which was a funny sight, while Azul giggled and the viper tighted his hold on the octopus.
-Sorry Ace, Silver and Sebek canceled Horse riding club, something about trouble at Diasomnia kitchen.- Riddle looked at him with warm eyes, something he usually does when he's very calm, so he should thank the Eel for it.
-Idia canceled my invitation to a friendly match for the same reason, he said, and i quote, "They should put and Anti Lilia-shi spell in the kitchen"- everyone shuddered at Lilia and kitchen being in the same sentence.
-Okay, R.I.P Diasomnia kitchen, other than that, do we have practice? 'Cause i need to do something after this.- Riddle smiled at what he said and motioned for Floyd to put him down. Jamil let go of Azul and the two Housewardens sat at a bench.
-So, excited for today, Crabby?- Floyd grabbed him by the shoulders - A little Goldfishie told me that you've got something tonight - Ace looked at him and grinned.
-Yup! Something i've been looking forward for a long time, and it's finally happening - Everyone looked at him and smiled, he grabbed a Ball and threw it at Jamil -Come on Senpai! Give me all you've got!

After practice, Ace went on a walk around campus, the others decided to stay behind and chat for a while more, apparently, they were going to have dinner at octavinelle along with Jade and Kalim. So, Ace now found himself walking alone, or so he thought.
-Would you look at that, if it isn’t potato n°1.- said a voice behind the red head, he turned around and saw Vil and Rook behind him.
-Bonjour, monsieur Heart! What a pleasure it is to see you- said the hunter, standing beside his queen
- What brings you out here? You should be preparing for your Rendez-vo–I mean, your grand event - Vil looked at him in a way that shut him before he changed his words, the smile never leaving his face.
-Epel told us you had something important tonight, and as the good upperclassman i am, it is my duty to tell you this- he approached Ace and put his hand on the younger's shoulders.
-Uuuh, Vil? Is someth-
-If you fuck this up, i'll make sure you never get a day of rest ever again- his face was serious, and his eyes looked cold and had a murderous glint on them.
For five seconds, Rook's smile became dangerous, for five seconds, Ace was scared as hell, For five fucking seconds Vil stopped being a nice senpai, and became a protector, and Ace didn’t knew why.
After the five seconds passed, Vil's face returned to normal, and he went to stand beside Rook again, all while Ace tried hard to not freak out.
-Merveilleux! thank you for the talk, monsieur Heart, but if we don’t hurry, monsieur pommete will get mad at us for being late- Said the hunter while guiding Vil with a hand on his waist back to the mirror chamber.
-And having Pomefiore's new housewarden angry won’t do now, would it?- said the ex-housewarden - but don't forget what i told you, Trappola.-
And with that, the couple dissappeared, leaving the card soldier with no idea for what had just transpired. He wasn’t sure what Vil meant, but Rook said grand event, so Epel must have told them about his tournament, so Vil must have meant that if he lost, he wouldn’t hear the end of it from Epel and him.
After that weird encounter, Ace continued his walk, he decised to concentrate on calming down so once he got back to the dorm, he would be ready to play. Somehow, between thinking of game tactics and the dorm, his mind filled with Deuce. That dork who didn’t jnew that store eggs didn’t have chickens in them, the same dork that sometimes talked to him just to fall asleep.
The same Dork whose smile brightened his days...
The same dork he fell in love with.
The heart remembered that in the middle of the winter break, Deuce called him to tell him his mom was seeing someone since the holidays, and that he was finally meeting her new boyfriend, who had a son a bit older than him. The spade was worried and told Ace that apparently, the man was a bit famous, so he was worried that he wouldn’t be enough for them or that he would ruin his mother's chance of finding happiness in a relationship. Ace calmed him down and told him not to worry, he also told him that if they didn’t like him, IT WAS THEIR LOST! They didn’t deserve him at all. Deuce cried a bit at that and thanked him, and promised to fill him in on everything that happened later.
After two days, Ace began to worry, he hadn’t heard anything about Deuce at all, so when he received a text from the blue haired boy, he got way to excited. Everything was a success, the man invited them to move to his house, and Deuce was excited because now he had a step-brother. Ace congratuladed him amd jockingly said that he would crash a dinner to meet them. Deuce got super quiet and just laughed nervously, Ace didn’t pay attention to that and just let it slide.
Without realizing, Ace kept walking until he reached the stables and heard shouting. The Heartslabuyl student sighed when he recognized the voice. He walked into the stables to see Sebek screaming at Ortho, who was laughing, and Lilia and Skully behind the crocodile giggling with each other.
Ace was about to leave when he met face to face with the bat fae, who was upside down on the ceiling.
-Why, hello there, young one. What brings you here?- Ace kept looking back and forth between Lilia and the place beside Skully, ignoring his fast heart rate, he looked around the stables to calm down, when he noticed the burnt hay everywhere. Without needing to look at the humanoid, Ace alredy knew he was the one behind this.
-I was just walking around when i heard the screaming, but i didn’t think that something like this had happened. So, if i may ask...- he turned to stare at Ortho - HOW?!
Ortho laughed while Sebek looked more irritated by the second, but Skully went and hugged him, the halloween boy buried his face in the half-fae's hair and it somehow got him to calm down.
-Skully J. Graves and I thought that we could warm the hay a bit for the horses, but i miscalculated the force of my beam....- said Ortho looking just a bit apologetic. Sebek slowly turned to look at his boyfriend, apparently, he hadn’t heard that side of the story. Skully laughed nervously when his boyfriend approached him. Lilia, meanwhile, laughed like a maniac while looking at Sebek screaming at Skully, who looked a bit nervous but still happy.
-I'm sorry, my dear. I didn’t know that the hay was flammable- he wasn’t sorry at all, the shit-eating grin on his face said so. Sebek just sighed and put his head on the taller's shoulder, Skully hugged him happily.
Ace remembered how they had gotten together
After the book fair, Sebek and the others came back a bit weird, Sebek more so than the rest. He kept talking about a boy named Skully, who they had all metz but the others couldn’t remember him. Sebek slowly closed off after that. He stopped training with silver, stopped hanging out with his friends, stopped following Malleus like a duckling and telling anyone how great his Waka-sama was. He hadn’t screamid for at least two weeks, and if anyone was worried with that, they worried even more when he stopped talking entirely.
The sky became an endless rain, Malleus feeling reflecting at that time. Silver couldn’t even sleep from how worried he was, he tried hanging out with Sebek, but he never responded. Lilia tried anything to get him to talk, even called his grandfather, but it didn’t work. Nothing worked.
Everyone was losing hope, when one day, they started to hear shouting again. Sebek was shouting at a diasomnia studeng who had ticked him off, the student couldn’t even be mad, he was happy the screaming was back, the student was even crying in relief. But Sebek wasn’t alone, holding his hand was a tall white haired boy who introduced himself as Skully. Everyone wondered how that happened, and how did he do it. But the Halfling never told the other freshman(at the time). The only ones that know what happened are his master, his mentor, and his best friend.
Seeing Sebek being himself brought a smile to Ace's face. The half fae and his boyfriend were amazing together. And Ace couldn’t help but wonder...
Will he ever get the chance to be with Deuce like that?
-You okay, youngling?- Ace didn’t notice Lilia getting behind him, or putting his hands on his shoulders, but he felt the worry in his voice.
-Yeah, i'm fine, just... wondering.- Lilia smiled at his answer before looking at the clock.
-Oh my, you better go back to your dorm to prepare, you wouldn’t want to miss your big event. You guys too! You wouldn’t wanna be late, right?- Lilia went to grab on to Ortho's shoulders and guiding him through the door.
-Goodbye Ace Trappola! And Good luck!- he giggled while dissapearing through the door.
-Do not mess this up, Human!- Sebek told him while passing beside him - but if it doesn’t end well, you know where to find me.-
-Good luck, Ace. Even if we do not know each other well enough, my heart yearns to see your night ending happily, and even if my husb- i mean, my partner acts though, he thinks of you as one of his closest friends, so if it doesn’t go well, you can talk to him- said Skully while patting his arm and leaving through the door to follow the others.
Ace stood frozen in place, everyone knew of his game tournament. A part of him begged to follow them and ask them what they meant, but he ended up not doing so, he chose to ignore it and think that they wished him luck on the game. So the boy finally moved and exited the stables and went to the mirror chamber.

It was almost time for the tournament, he had alredy shlwered, ate something, prepared the common room TV for his game, and prepared a whole bowl of chips to eat while playing.
He took advantage that almost everyone was out for date night and prepated to use the mic of his headset to talk with the other players. A part of him wanted to see the cauldron boy before starting, so he went to his room, but he wasn’t there. A small part of him wanted to text him and ask where he was. He turned around to go back and saw something from the corner of his eye, in Deuce's desk there was his calendar for the day.
Ace froze when he saw what it had marked
Dinner reservations
Dinner reservations for a fancy restaurant HE had told Deuce about. And the reservations were at 8pm. The same hour his tournament starts.
He felt angry, irritated, jealous, but mostly hurt. He it there and went back to the common room. He stared at his hands and could believe it, his crush was going on a date with somebody else, his BEST FRIEND didn’t tell him he had a date, and most importantly, Ace could never tell him his feelings now. Because now, Deuce was with someone else.
Ace decided to forget about Deuce and his sadness and play and win the tournament, so he went to his spot on the sofa and started the game.
While it loads, Ace reflects on the whole day, but everytime he thought of Deuce he teared up. His crush was nothing to prevent it, and now his chest hurt.
The Ace of hearts was heartbroken, and nkthing could cheer him up.
Nothing but his game.
When it finally finished loading, Ace started on the tournament and put on his headsey. Completly forgetting about the world and ready to take his anger out on the enemies.

He won, after countless of fights, he finally won. He ended up un 1st place and he was happy, so happy he started to celebrate without minding his volume.
He kept on celebrating when someone walked in.
-Ace? What are you doing here?- it was Trey, he looked at him and his face was stern.
-Um.. sorry Trey, I forgot about the volume thing, i promise i'll be more qu-
-What are you doing here?- he looked at him with something cold.
-What do you mean? I'm having my grand event, my tournament. The one everyone congratulated me for- Ace was sweating now, he looked at the hour, 12:30.
-Oh, fuck- now Ace was scared, Trey never swore, he must be really mad, or.... worried.
-Trey‐Trey, are you here?- Cater is here, Ace saw his face when he entered, it went from worried for Trey, to shocked when he saw him.
-Cater, calm Deuce, and if he doesn’t answer, call Riddle- Trey sat down and looked at him, the TV, his snacks and Ace swore he looked like he wanted to cry for a moment.
Meanwhile, Cater was calling Deuce. Ace was lost, he couldn’t get it, he couldn’t understand what was going on, and they weren’t telling him anything. He was done getting ignored.
-Okay! What the actual fuck is going on?! - the two fourth years looked at him, Trey looked serious while Cater's face went from worried to scared.
-he's not answering...-
-Cater, try Riddle and tell him there was a misunderstanding with Ace and Deuce-
-What misunderstanding are you talking about? Deuce is on a date with someone - Both of them looked at Ace as if he had grown a second head, they both looked as if they wanted to smack him across the head. It was the same look his brother gave him when he messed up pretty badly.
-Ace- started the clover -What do you remember from this morning?-
-What kind of question is that?-
-Ace-
-OKAY!, Fine, i was here playing my game when Deuce walked in with Yuu behind him, he said something to me but i didn’t pay full attention to it, and then he left. After that, everyone congratulated me for the "EVENT", and i assumed it was my game tournament...- Ace got quiet, he realized that he had gotten it wrong, no one had remembered his stupid tournament, but then, what was it? - What was my grand event? -
Trey and Cater looked at each other, Riddle picked up the call and Cater went to talk in the hall. Leaving the clover with the heart.
-Your "Grand event"- he paused, looking at the hall to see Cater pacing while talking to the dorm leader. He looked at Ace again and took off his glasses - was your date with Deuce-
Ace dropped his controller, he looked at the screen then at his hands and everything clicked. Everyone thought that he knew about it, which he should have. Riddle congratulating him for finally going out with Deuce, Yuu, Lilia, the basketball club, Vil, Rook, Sebek and Skully..
He suddenly realized, the dinner reservations were for him. Deuce chose that specific place because he had told him about it, and he had ditched him. All because of a stupid videogame.
-I need to go-
-Ace, no-
-But i could still-
-Riddle says that he's not answering his calls either - now that was worrying, Deuce could never not pick up a call from the Housewarden, not even if he was asleep.
Ace didn’t wait for Trey's response to what Cater had just told them. He bolted out of the dorm and went straight to the mirror.

It was raining, not Malleus raining, but raining nonetheless. He ran towards the school gate and ran to rown. After what felt like hours for him, but probably took half and hour, he arrived to the restaurant.
It was closing, and there was no one inside. He looked around for minutes, but there weren’t any signs of the spade. Ace sat down on the pavement. He didn’t notice when he had started crying, but he couldn’t stop the tears from falling. He felt like he was going to die, and in his mind, he deserved it. He had hurt the only person in the world he never wanted to damage, but he did.
After sitting there for the Queen of hearts knows how long, a lady got out of the restaurant. She had brown long hair and kind eyes.
-Are you okay, Mister?- Ace realize that his troath ached from sobbing, and that his eyes were most certainly red.
-I'm fine.- Ace planned on leaving when and idea came to his mind.- I'm sorry, have you seen a blue haired boy? He is a bit taller than me, he was probably fancy dressed too- not like he could had see him in the clothes.
The lady smiled at him, but it did nothing to make him feel better -Yes, he was at the door for a long while, it seemed like he was waiting for someone. Poor thing, he must have got stood up - Ace felt worse by the second -I'm pretty sure he started to cry at one point. He sat in the same spot you were it and sobbed for a while- The lady was looking at him with sadness.
-Do you know where he went?- even if Deuce didn’t want to see him, he needed to know he was okay.
-Well, at one point two tall guys came by, i couldn’t see their faces very well, but the boy went with them willingly.- Ace started to get worried, Deuce left with two men? That didn’t sound like the boy at all.
-Did you see the way they took?- Ace wasn’t sure what he was going to do, but one thing was clear, he needed to see the blue haired boy.
-They went that way- Ace didn’t have to be told twice. He ran at the direction the lady pointed to. He thanked her before leaving, he didn’t dare look back.
The rain made it difficult to see where he was going, but he didn’t care at this point. What he DID care about at the moment was finding Deuce, apologize, and it didn’t matter if he didn’t forgive the heart (he probably deserved it, if he couldn’t forgive himself, why would Deuce?) He just needed to say how sorry he was, he didn’t know where he was anymore, and it scared him a bit, but he needed to find him, he needed to find De-
-Oof- said the tall man he ran into. The heart fell on his butt and looked up, he knew those horns, those green eyes and that scary look, he ran straight into Malleus Draconia. -Trappola, what are you doing here?-
-Ace? What happened? Why are you crying?- Yuu, the seven's blessed Yuu, Ace hugged them after Malleus helped him up
- I-I messed up, badly- Ace knew that between the sobbing and the trembling he was barely understandsble, and it would be a miracle if the pair understood what he was saying.
-What do you mean you messed up? Did the Date go that badly?- Yuu was trying to get him to look at them, but Ace just kept crying on their shoulder, and at the mention of the date, it intensified a bit.
-THAT'S THE PROBLEM! I NEVER SHOWED UP- Yuu and the dragon froze, they looked at each other before looking back at Ace. - I didn’t know about it, I never showed up, I stood him up, and he left with two men and now I can’t find him, he doesn’t answer his calls and he's not at the dorm and Idon'tknowwhattodo- Ace breathing was erratic-And I- Ace looked at Yuu, and the prefect could see the pain in their friend's eyes - I hurt him- he whispered those three words before going back to crying on Yuu's shoulder.
Malleus and Yuu didn’t know what to say, Yuu kept higging him and trying to calm him doen, Malleus grabbed both of them and teleported back to campus. The dragon kissed the prefect's head and went to look for Silver, who most probably was with Idia and Ortho, and they could use their help to track Deuce and find him.
Meanwhile, Yuu took Ace back to Heartslabyul, silently hoping that Deuce was there, but he wasn’t. Riddle was pacing at the entrance looking awfully worried, and expression very few people saw on his face. When he saw them he looked as if he were to scream at Ace, but upon noticing his face he stopped himself, he just opened the door so that they could enter the dorm.
Once inside they found Trey and Cater sitting and looking pale, when they saw them enter they stood up and went to look at Ace. Riddle stopped them and looked at Yuu, with sorrow filled eyes.
-Go back to Ramshackle and rest, we've got it from here- The Housewarden grabbed the heart and with the help of Trey managed to get him away from Yuu, who was tearing up. They took Ace to his dorm while Cater comforted the prefect, tears also shining in his emerald eyes.
Once the queen and the clover got the heart in his bed, Trey went to get water for Ace while Riddle comforted him. Ace just looked across the room at the empty bed and went back to crying. Riddle didn’t know what to do, but tried to get him to calm down.
After what felt like hours, Ace managed to close his eyes and sleep. Riddle got out of the room and went back to his room. Trey and Cater were long gone to their room and probably were asleep, and he didn’t want to bother them. Once he got on his bed he let himself relax, he grabbed his phone and called Vil.
-How is he?- Riddle didn’t trust himself very much at the moment, he wanted to see Deuce and make sure he was okay, but he knew he couldn’t. Just knowing he was safe was enough for now.
-As good as someone who just got their heart broken can be.- The spite in Vil's voice was obvious, and he didn’t care much of it. -He is sleeping now, but it took a while to get him to calm down enough for it. How is the one that hurt my step-brother?-
Vil and Deuce were step-brothers, and even if they didn’t share all the details, Riddle knew that Vil cared a lot about him, after all, he was the one that saved him from dying in his overblot, the fact that they were now family increased it. Even if he tried to deny it, Vil was awfully protective of Deuce, and he was the first to call Riddle after he had called Deuce's phone and got no response. Vil assured the red head that his card soldier was safe and that he wouldn’t return to Heartslabyul that night. Riddle made peace with it and decided to just wait for Ace.
-Ace is sleeping at the moment, but he was crying a lot. He regrets what happened, and for what he told Trey, he didn’t know that Deuce had asked him on a date.- Riddle heard the curses that Vil said upon hearing that, and he also heard Rook's voice in the background trying to calm his queen down.
-A sorry isn’t going to simply fix this and you know it, Riddle. It will take time, a lot if you ask me. But let's see what tomorrow brings for these two.-
Riddle didn’t get the chance to say anything else before Vil hung up. He just layed on his bed and looked at the ceiling.
