Found, never to be lost
He was finally safe.
After having been released from the medical facility, all the prodding, probing and scanning behind for now. The proof of loyalty to the GAR, the interrogation done by his peers… it was all over now and he, could finally breathe.
Echo was safe in his lover’s arms.
Fives.
The ARC trooper having his arms around the long since thought lost love of his life was back. A surprise to have him back it was, but very wanted one as well.
“You asleep, eh, Echs?”
Fives could feel Echo’s breathing still heavy, uneven as was his heartbeat. Even if Echo remained perfectly still where he had been place, right there, in Fives secure hug. Not that Fives could blame Echo for being anxious still. As it had certainly been a long and hard road to get from the glorious rescue to this place they were in now.
Echo moved ever so slightly, not really wanting to let go now that he was back on Fives’ arms again. And Echo didn’t really want to be a burden either. Not that he felt like one, never with Fives, well, not with most of his friends, his family. But still, it was, different now.
“Sorry Fives, it’s hard to shut down my brain.”
The enhancements getting some used to, the cyborg parts Echo now housed. But he was slowly and surely adapting to them as well. But mostly, it was a dream come true to be out of imprisonment and back in his partner’s arms.
“Echo, never apologise to me for anything. I love you and am only too happy to have you back. What you went through… well, I can’t even imagine. But if you feel whatever you right now, never apologise for that.”
They remained silent for a moment, Echo still processing things, even words spoken by his partner before responding. Guess he really was different now. But then, Echo and Fives had always been so very different from one and other, even if they were supposed to be the same. None of them were, the same that is.
“Fives, what I went through and what I know now to save us all, I would do it all again.”
It was true, the secretes uncovered while in captivity was the key to saving the Republic, the clones, all of them.
“Yeah I know. I would too if it had been me.” He paused. “But you did it love, and you will save us all. What you know, will give us a chance.”
Indeed the ploy of the Sith, the control chips, the Order 66… All of what the Separatists knew about Palpatine’s plans were now revealed because Echo having fallen prey to the Techno Union.
As Echo having done some probing of his own while being held in the freezer and he knew everything now!
Echo looked up and right at Fives from where he was cradled in his arms.
“I am glad I did. But I rather just be with you my sweet love. Cuddled together here for all eternity.”
Fives let out a soft chuckle. Feeling exactly the same now that Echo was back.
“We will, my love. We will. The war will be over soon and then, it will be just us forever and ever.”
“Promise me that Fives? The together forever?”
“I promise Echo, you and me like we were always meant to be.”
The two snuggled together tightly again, finally falling asleep while dreaming of a hopeful future for the two of them, them all after the war.
