Work Text:
Before Eva has fully waken up, she can feel eyes on her, which is never a good sign. Cracking open an eye, Izzy is peering down at her, sitting cross legged on her side of the bed. Upon seeing her girlfriend awake, she grins widely, throwing herself on top of the dark haired woman.
"Guess what?" she asks excitedly, orange curls falling on Eva's face. Eva grunts, her version of "what?", and Izzy takes it as her sign to continue. "I have the day off! Apparently the set caught on fire. Isn't that crazy?"
Eva blinks, the words taking a second to process. Eyebrow raising, she replies, "you didn't do that, did you?"
Izzy just shrugs, which is what Eva was expecting, and then giggles, pressing her face against Eva's, smashing their cheeks together. "I plead the fifth."
"We're in Canada." That brings out a snort from Izzy, and she plants a wet kiss on Eva's cheek before sitting up, simply admiring the other woman. Eva notices this, tilting her head so she can stare at the wall, fighting a small burst of embarrassment.
"So?" comes Izzy's response, and Eva rolls her eyes and sits up as well, the blanket pooling at her waist. She ran a hand through her hair, cut into a pixie cut a year after their Total Drama contracts expired. It was a nice change, she had decided early on, even if Noah claimed it made her look more like a lesbian than she already did.
They eventually make their way out of bed, Eva heading towards the kitchen to start on breakfast while Izzy makes a detour to the living room, picking up their cat, Boom Boom. The name is courtesy of Izzy, who had found Boom Boom after an explosion happened on one of the sets she was working in. How a cat managed to sneak onto a movie set was beyond them, but Boom Boom was snuck into Izzy's tote bag and brought home.
As Eva fries some eggs, Izzy cradles Boom Boom and brings him into the kitchen, rocking him like he's a baby. "He's growing so fast!" she cries out, pressing a kiss to grey fur, nuzzling against the softness. "He's going to grow and be five feet long!"
Eva bites back a laugh, focusing on not burning the eggs, though she does turn slightly to spare a glance at her girlfriend and their cat. "I hope not," she says, voice slightly gruff from waking up not too long ago. "He already eats enough as it is. The vet said he's almost overweight, remember?"
"No he's not!" Izzy denies, covering Boom Boom's ears so he wouldn't hear his other mother fat shaming him. "He's perfect the way he is! Isn't that right, Boom Boom?" The cat merely meows in response, nuzzling his head against Izzy's chest so he could get more pets.
Breakfast is a simple affair of eggs, toast, and leftover sausage from dinner the night before. They sit at their kitchen table, a small wooden thing found at a yard sale, and eat in peace, Boom Boom sitting on the floor and eating his own breakfast.
Izzy talks between bites about movies and shows she's working on in the near future, about how Owen is almost finished with culinary school and what gift ideas she was thinking about getting him, and about how Noah is handling long distance with Emma.
"He just looks so sad, it's depressing," Izzy says between a bite of sausage, shoving her fork into a piece of egg. "He's like a wet cat."
"He's always like that," Eva reminds her, earning herself a wide grin and an extra piece of sausage tossed onto her plate. After they finish eating, she rinses off their plates and silverware, putting them in the dishwasher, and she heads to their bedroom to get changed into her gym clothes.
Halfway through pulling on her shirt, Izzy comes into the room, admiring her girlfriend's strong back with a playful whistle and a grin. She sneaks up behind Eva, wrapping her arms around her waist and nibbling on her shoulder, laughing when Eva attempts to shrug her off. She eventually lets go so she can continue to get ready, and Izzy decides that she should tag along. After all, what if Eva needs a spotter?
They quickly get dressed, and after making sure that Boom Boom would be alright, Eva grabs their apartment keys and they leave, walking down the stairs of the apartment complex. Luckily, there is a gym that's only a three minute walk from the building, which Eva loves. It's more convenient, both for working out in her free time and her job as a personal trainer.
Izzy intertwines their fingers, swinging their hands as they walk down the sidewalk and rambling about this and that, curls flowing in the slight breeze. Eva takes a hair tie that she keeps around her wrist and hands it to Izzy, telling her to, "pull your hair up, it'll get in your way."
The green eyed woman listens, letting go of Eva's hand to pull her hair into a messy ponytail that somehow suits her perfectly. Not that Eva would know much about pulling stuff off. Most of her clothes were gym apparel, although she owned one pantsuit for the time Izzy got an award for her stunt double work.
The gym is surprisingly quiet as they step inside. Eva nods at the receptionist, who is probably terrified of her, and Izzy waves, happily following her girlfriend further inside the gym.
"Ooh, I can spot you! What's your deadlift PR again?" Izzy asks, swaying on the heels of her tennis shoes, a lime green pair Eva had picked out for Christmas last year.
"325 pounds," Eva answers, deciding to ditch her iPod for the morning. After all, Izzy would start talking her ear off any minute, like she usually does, and it would do her some good to listen to some of Izzy's crazy stories.
They take turns spotting each other as they weigh lift, and then they spend the last half hour of their gym time doing cardio on a treadmill. Eva jogs at a slightly fast pace, while Izzy manages to skip on the machine, and Eva thinks it's the hottest thing she's ever seen.
Afterwards, when they're all sweaty, they take their leave, making their way back to their apartment. They shower together, Izzy using the vanilla scented body wash that Eva always buys because it reminds her of her grandma's baking, and when they get out and get dressed in casual clothes, they lounge together in their living room. Izzy has her legs thrown over the arm of the couch, her head in Eva's lap, while Eva watches the TV, Boom Boom taking up what's left of her lap.
It's peaceful, she can't help but think. Peaceful in a way that feels undeserving at times, when she remembers how angry she used to be. How the smallest thing would set her off, and ruin any impression she had ever given anybody.
Now, years later, Eva would say that she feels calm. There's a rage in her sometimes, simmering in her veins, waiting for the perfect time to snap, but she's healthier now. Anger management classes have done her wonders, Izzy and Noah had claimed, and she's glad.
They sit together for an hour, before Izzy suggests they go out and get ice cream. "We can invite Noah and cheer him up! After all, he wouldn't deny his two favorite gal pals!"
"Sure, whatever," Eva replies, and she reaches for her phone, asking Noah to meet up at a local ice cream shop. He responds a few seconds later with a simple thumbs up, and then sends a picture of Newton, his golden lab. "He's bringing Newton."
"Yay!" Izzy cheers, clapping her hands together and leaping off the couch. Eva follows suit, casting one last glance at Boom Boom before she goes to slip her shoes on, once again grabbing her keys and shoving them into the pocket of her shorts.
The ice cream shop is a little farther away, and while they do have a car, the weather is nice, so Izzy and Eva decide to walk. Hand in hand, they pass other small shops and stores, walking past fellow Torontonians, who also seem to be enjoying the summer day. Not too hot, with a nice breeze, and the sun shining down with a few clouds blocking its path. It's as close to perfect as it can get.
When they arrive, Noah's waiting on them, a hand holding Newton's leash. The golden lab happily barks when he spots Izzy and Eva, making a beeline to the former so he can lick her hand.
Izzy lets him, of course, claiming that it was Newton's way of protecting her. Eva never buys it, but pats the dog on the head anyways, turning to Noah. "You doing okay?"
"As okay as I can be," Noah answers with a shrug, looking to where Izzy and Newton are interacting. He smiles slightly, a sight Eva almost misses, before turning to look at the iron woman. "What flavor do you want? I can go inside and order if you guys keep Newton occupied."
"I want sprinkles!" Izzy yells before Eva gets the chance to answer, and she snatches the leash from Noah. "And chocolate sauce."
"Strawberry sounds fine to me," Eva says, not the biggest fan of sweets, but she'd indulge for her friends' sake. Noah nods, heading inside the ice cream shop, leaving the two women with Newton, who basks in the attention.
They're still petting the golden lab when Noah comes back, carrying three cups of ice cream, as well as a cup of whipped cream. Izzy grabs her from him, taking a bite immediately and letting out a delighted hum. "That hits the spot!"
Eva is handed hers, and she thanks Noah quietly, taking a small bite. She gets a chunk of strawberry, which she doesn't mind entirely, unlike Noah, who once spat it out because of the texture.
Currently, he's eating a cup of plain vanilla, and he holds the cup of whipped cream down for Newton to lick. It's an endearing sight, and Eva finds herself hiding a small smile behind her cup of ice cream.
The trio, plus Newton, sit outside at a small table, Newton's head practically in Noah's lap. Izzy takes the chair closest to Eva, scooting it impossibly closer so they're nearly touching. She offers the dark haired woman a bite of her sugary monstrosity, which Eva declines.
Izzy pouts, taking another bite of chocolate syrup. "You're missing out," she claims, which makes Eva bark out a laugh. Noah merely raises an eyebrow, glancing at Izzy's cup and then looking away, probably fearing the sugar rush she'd surely get.
They talk while they eat, bringing up Owen, who would hate to be missing out on this if he wasn't provinces away, bringing up Emma, who's studying away at Yale, and the rest of the Total Drama cast.
"I can't believe Al and Heather broke up," Izzy says, pointing her spoon at Noah, who was the one who told them about the two. "They kissed on top of a volcano. Hey, we should do that!" She turns to Eva, her smile all teeth, and Eva sighs, shaking her head.
"We're not doing that," she tells her girlfriend, before turning to Noah. "Are you surprised they broke up?"
"Not really," he answers with a shrug, finishing his ice cream and sitting his cup on the table. "Honestly, I thought Heather was a lesbian. A mean one."
Eva fights a snort, while Izzy outright cackles, and launches into her theories on what sexualities the rest of the cast have.
Afterwards, Eva throws their trash away, leaving Izzy to say her goodbyes to Newton, who's getting a little tired. His owner is fully exhausted, physically and socially, and he quickly says his goodbyes before leaving, heading towards his place.
The walk back to their apartment is filled with a peaceful quiet that Eva finds herself enjoying more than she should. Their hands are once again joined, fingers interlaced and shoved into the pocket of Izzy's capris. Once they get inside, Izzy makes a beeline for Boom Boom, who soaks up the attention with quiet purrs.
The rest of the day passes by in a blur; Eva folds their laundry while Izzy dances with Boom Boom, music playing from the small radio Izzy had gifted Eva for her birthday last year. It's domestic bliss, if there was ever a picture for the word, and Eva can't help but smile.
There's no place she'd rather be.
