Work Header

hey kids, into dust together

Summary:

The dirty, grimy, off-yellow walls, placed randomly as if the person who placed them had no plan. Some of them were patterned with a darkened yellow, arrows pointing upwards, while others were fully dirty, blank walls that only an artist would be excited for.

Sukuna, despite his twin’s hand already being clutched on his wrist, put an arm around Yuji’s shoulders, sitting them both up as they observed the place around them.

“Where are we..?” Yuji’s speaking was slow, like he was forcing his words out.

Chapter 1: Opening.

Chapter Text

“Sukuna, come on, that’s not funny!”

The air around them was fresh, warm with their own breath, a light breeze sliding through the strands of branches that ended up with leaves falling from the trees around them.

“Oh don’t be such a brat, you can’t even take a small push?” Sukuna scoffed, his scowl etched on his face with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Yuji hopped over a crack on the concrete ground, red sneakers bright against the grey. “You know that’s not what I mean. Grandpa would be mad if I told him you were pushing me around.” He singsonged, voice slightly high pitched.

The twins were walking home from their school, finally over as summer break started. Backpacks clutched in their grasp, filled to the brim with stuff they definitely did not need for a day of school.

“You tell him I pushed you and he’s going to be hearing all about what you spent your weekly lunch money on.”

“You promised you wouldn’t!”

“My fingers were crossed.”

Head thrown back, Yuji groaned, rolling his eyes. “You’re so difficult. You don’t even know anything, like, when was the last time you even watched TikTok?”

“When the hell did TikTok come into this conversation?” Sukuna narrowed his eyes, watching his twin as they walked, Yuji leading them.

“See! You’re so boring, Kuna. I don’t even think you know what six seven is.”

“I know what six seven is. It’s not funny.”

“It so is! You’ve clearly never seen a day of humour in your life!” Yuji argued, his arms thrown up slightly in faux irritation.

The other boy just shook his head slightly, a smile playing at his lips.

They walked slow, conversing with eachother, Yuji turned to the side as he stepped so that he could look at his twin as he spoke. The starking black marks on Sukuna’s face caused every adult that walked past them to give him a glance, sometimes disgusted, other times confused.

“These people need to stop looking at me.” Sukuna scoffed, his usual go-to when he’s annoyed. “I mean, you have big tattoos on your face. I’m still surprised grandpa didn’t kill you for that one.” Yuji laughed, scratching the back of his head.

Sukuna scowled, the fifth one of the day, and shoved Yuji.

The other boy’s hand closed around Sukuna’s wrist as soon as he moved, pulling him down with him as they both burst out laughing.

The two of them both braced for the blades of humid grass to poke them through the thin, off-white school shirts they wore.

It didn’t come.

Their stomachs filled with butterflies, both bodies become weightless as they dropped onto a rough, hard floor instead.

Before any eyes opened, all senses were filled with aged air, nothing like the fresh breeze that surrounded them on their walk home. The harsh carpet underneath them felt moist, as if it had only started drying recently.

It smelt terrible.

The smell could only be describe as spoiled milk, pungent but manageable. The air didn’t feel like air, it scratched their skin as if there was pieces of glass swimming around.

Both pairs of eyes opened, and they were both instantly greeted with harsh white clouding their vision, only calming down when they harshly blinked mutiple times.

He felt sick to his stomach, a certain feeling of dread filling up his whole body. It lingered, it was sickening. His hold on his brother tightened.

“Don’t ask that. The people who ask that always die first in horror movies.” Sukuna muttered.

“Why would you say that?”

“Did it not make you feel better?”

“No! Why the hell would it help me feel better?”

Sukuna shrugged. “Do you still have your bag?” He moved his hand to the back of Yuji, pressing it against the thick, filled up bag. It may have been obvious, but neither of them had been focusing on small things like that.

“Yes. I feel like im about to panic.” Yuji shuddered, leaning his body into his brother more. “Don’t panic. We’ll be fine.” His twin muttered quietly, hand moving slowly in uneven circles under his bag to soothe him.

“Are we going to be stuck here forever?”

…

“I don’t know.”
