When Scar and Grian arrive in Hulbury, they first go to the pokecenter to heal their party’s. As this is happening Grian sees that Scar gives an extra pokeball to nurse Joy.
“Hey, Scar, what’s in that extra ball you gave nurse Joy?” After finishing his question he sees his pokemon on the screen being Galarian meowth, dartix, solosis, carvanha, applin? APPLIN! When he sees this he immediately starts blushing.
“I thought it looked funny.” Scar being totally oblivious to what Grian knows about this pokemon. He doesn’t know that this is a sign that you love someone.
Once Scar gets his pokeball back he goes outside to wait for Grian, nurse Joy gives him a knowing look. “He’s not from Galar if I had to guess."
“He’s Unovan. He doesn't have the slightest idea of what he’s in possession of. Yes, I have a crush on him if it wasn’t obvious.” It’s actually really painful knowing that Scar is this oblivious.
While Scar is waiting outside, Mumbo walks to him. “How are you enjoying Galar so far?” He’s really happy that Scar finally came to visit them. “Did you guys take the long way here?” He asks, knowing Grian is from Postwick.
“It’s really fun, we went through a mine and some fields and over an enormous bridge. I also caught an apple pokemon that has Grian very flustered for some reason.” Still not really sure what it was for.
“Mate, you do know applin is a way to say you love someone? Most likely not, sins you’re Unovan and all.” It was fair of him to assume this but he asked just to be sure.
Once Grian finally leaves the pokecenter, he sees the two of them standing there. Scar who is finally aware of the situation asks Grian to show him to the water. Grian being a little bit confused just does as Scar asks.
Once they are standing on the docks, Scar says and does something that shocks Grian. “Here, for you I guess.” As he gives Grian the applin and a kiss on his cheek. After that he just rubs his neck sheepishly.
“Scar! No you didn’t!” Standing there in shock of what the ever loving hell just happened. When he finally recomposes himself he asks just one thing.
“Are you really saying you love me too?” Still a little dazed after all that just happened.
“Yes, I do love you, and I've been wanting to tell you, but I never found the right way to tell you. So can I give you another kiss?” Asking this makes him blush even more.
Grian doesn’t say anything and just forcefully places his lips on Scar’s and Scar just leans into it. When they finally pull apart, they just stand there with their foreheads against one another. After a bit Scar just lets out a sigh of contentment.
“Did Mumbo tell you this?”Grian asks, and Scar just nods. “Then I'll have to thank him later.”
When they finally get over themself, they just enjoy the rest of their day near the water. Scar unable not to show his packs off trips, accidentally pulling Grian with him into the surprisingly cold water, getting them both soaked. As he gets a look from his now boyfriend that tries to say, "What am I to do with you?"
