Work Text:
The Doctor was fast asleep, snoring loudly as she slept on her back. Missy stared at her, wondering what in Rassilon’s name she found so attractive about the other Time Lady. The way her lashes framed her eyes, or the peaceful way she slept. Peaceful aside from the snoring. She was rather crass and direct at times, plus she twirled about in some frankly awful clothing choices. Fashion never really was her strong suit. Her clothes made Missy want to rip them off of her—and not in the fun way.
But she wasn’t in her clothes anymore. Not really anyway. She was in some Missy-approved pajamas, not that she could see them since the Doctor was latched onto her back. Like a barnacle. A cute barnacle with opinions and horrible fashion sense. Not that she’d really ever admit she found the Doctor cute. She’d never admit that aloud in ANY of her regenerations, except, of course, to be patronizing. It was like talking to a small chihuahua who kept barking at you, but was also taller than you when you weren’t wearing heels. She was decidedly not very fond of that fact.
She wished she could kiss her right now. Nothing big, just a little peck on the nose. A light amount of affection while the Doctor was still too asleep to witness Missy’s weakness. She gently and slowly pried the Doctor’s fingers off her chest and shuffled around until they were face to face. The Doctor continued clinging to her like a barnacle and snoring. She brushed some of the hair out of her Doctor’s eyes and took a moment to evaluate the strange swelling feeling of her hearts.
It was love. She knew that much. It had just been so long since she’d truly experienced it again. She’d spent so long beating herself up about it, convincing herself that she was no longer worthy of love, that when it stumbled her way, she had no idea what to do or how to react. But the love, her love, the Doctor, her Doctor was sleeping just right next to her, their feet tangled as the Doctor snored. She did that a lot. The regeneration didn’t really matter, she would snore.
The Doctor was cute and kind and considerate and always something better than she could ever hope to be, despite still committing the occasional atrocity. Being with her was like tasting heaven. She wasn’t quite sure what heaven would taste like, but it had to taste like the Doctor. Her Doctor. Hers, always hers, their fates intertwined as if they had ripped one of their hearts out and given it to the other. Maybe they had.
What mattered now was that she was in the Doctor’s arms, bathed in love by the other Time Lady, and for a moment, for a single, blissful moment, she felt like she didn’t need to pretend anymore.
