I Know They’re Supposed to Be a We, But Never Forget That Women Did It First and Women Do It Better

Summary:

I’ve always felt there is a massive dissonance in how people view Julian (Jaskier) because a male actor was cast. But some characters are just meant to be women. When you flip the dynamic, Julian's high-maintenance drama, the silks, the perfumes, and the refusal to leave Geralt alone completely change the narrative framework. She forces her way into his orbit, completely subverting his desire for a "silent and simple" life, and masterfully manipulates him into accidental domesticity.

Chapter Text

Picture this: Geralt had always thought he preferred his women silent and simple. He never liked it when things got too complicated. But here he was, tempted to hit a woman. It's one of those things where you say, "Go away," and then you accidentally get sucked into furthering them to where they want to go because they won't leave you alone. And then you're in a big, fluffy silk shirt, walking around as a plus-one and bodyguard with a child you are now being related to abandoning.

"I cannot believe you, Geralt! How dare you walk away? Do you know how many things could have happened to us? I was with your child, and you just left us there!" she insists.

"That girl is not my child. She is a procedural being forced upon me. And you were not with her—you were standing in the same room as her and many others. You are a performer, not a mother," Geralt grunts.

"And there you go with your excuses, Geralt. It's always somebody else's fault when you behave poorly, isn't it? What will you do in the future when our child..." she insists.

"That girl is not a child. We don't have children. You're complicating things. Now get back on the damn horse before I drag you out of here," Geralt tells her, making a sweeping gesture towards Roach.

"I don't know why you're always speaking to me like that. What will you do when I leave you one day?" she grunts, stomping over to stand in front of Roach, arms folded.

Geralt grunts, glaring at her as he picks her up by the hips, sliding her backwards onto the horse. He reaches out, climbing onto the back after her as they ride off, Roach walking at a leisurely pace.

Geralt tilts his head to the side, a realization dawning within him, a lute on his back. He came here because this strange woman started following him around and refused to go away. Then he tried to escape her and the burden of her child by running away; she caught up to him and started arguing about their child. He just told her a few days ago that she wasn't allowed to ride his horse.

He looks at the woman, arms folded before him, sighing softly, the anger from her face completely vanished.

She did it again.
