Work Text:
The grass tall around her as she lay in it gazing at the stars littered across the sky. The constellations gathered in various places across the vastness of the night sky. Some had stories people share through generations. Some were about legends or myths. Very few knew the truth behind any of them.
But she did.
She knew the truth of some of the tales. The ones who freed people from the thumb of a controlling monarch. The ones of those who fought dragons and lived to tell the tale. Even one who entered the stomach of a dragon and managed to find a way out. She knew of the people who ventured into the blightlands and came out the other side. Of those who found love, lost it, and found it again. The truth of triumph, fear, broken hearts, and beyond.
Sure not all of the stars were theirs. So many were of those long before them, and many will be for those who come after they're all gone.
But she knew of the stars that told their tales, and she happily told them to those who asked. Though mostly she gazed upon them and remembered those she called friends who became family.
And Cory Sumner spent many of her nights doing just that. While fireflies danced around her, she stared up at the night sky playing through her memories. Always holding tight and never forgetting the Dawntakers.
