Work Text:

The court of the owls had hired a mercenary to kill a reporter who had gotten information on them, Barbara told him. He had taken his motorcycle there and was scoping out the area, trying to find the reporter.

He found her tied to a pipe, a gag in her mouth. He opened it, wondering why they’d tied her instead of killing her. He then heard a gunshot, feeling like he was being kicked in the side as he stared at the blood leaking through his suit. The pain was sharp, sharp, sharp, but he ignored it as he whirled around, finding Lady Vic, with a typical old rifle. It’s not that he minded her much, but the fact that she was using civilians made his blood boil. He supposed that’s what you got for being a superhero who kept winning.

He and Lady Vic got into a scuffle, but as they did so, out of the corner of his eye, he saw another person going towards the civilian. He turned to fight that one off instead, and was shot again. Twice in one night.

He fought with the pain; he was quite used to it. Pain was common in this line of work. Still, by the time he fought both of them off and the civilian had been freed and safely returned to her home, he was getting a bit worried. The bullets had been inside him for quite a long time.

He was about to call Barbara when he heard another motorcycle pull up, and he looked at Jason Todd, who was staring at him behind the mask. Nightwing knew his gestures quite well by now. He was quite observant; he could tell that Jason was worried by the tilt of his head. It was just like Jason to wear a full head cover, unlike Nightwing’s mask, which would show his smile to smirk at enemies and be comforting to civilians.

”You got shot,” Jason scoffed, as if he were better than Dick.

”Happy to see you too, bucket head,” Dick said cheerfully, as if the pain was nothing. He was starting to feel it now-never felt like he could be like Batman and turn his emotions off.

”Gonna patch me up, emo boy? Or are you going to leave me to die?” He put a hand on his forehead, and he could hear Jason’s scoff behind the mask.

”So dramatic. Get on my bike, you idiot,”

Dick just smirked behind the pain, nimbly hopping behind Jason on his motorcycle as the two rode into the night.

Notes:

Surprise, Jason is also here. Also, I apologize if either of them are out of character, I was struggling to find canon interactions between the two.
