Chapter 1: Woody's Right-Hand Man

Chapter Text

Woody is the new prince of the kingdom. His parents hope that he’ll make a fine king someday. Woody is a courageous and brave young soul. He hated the royal family norms. Woody tended to cause trouble. So, after many butlers and maids who quit, Woody’s parents hoped and prayed that the last butler that was left was able to put Woody into shape.

Then there was Buzz. He had a great reputation as a butler, many royal families recommended him. Woody’s parents had requested Buzz to come be Woody’s personal butler.

Woody, 19, about to be king and he needs to act more like it. He scares the ladies-in-waiting and sneaks out of the castle during important things to go to the pub. But on one faithful day, Woody stirred out of bed with a groan. His eyes were squinted and his short brown hair was an absolute mess. He blinked to fully open his eyes. The world around Woody was blurry for a moment. Woody heard a soft, deep voice speak to him.

”Good morning, sir,” Buzz said softly. His light-brown hair was slicked back and his suit had no wrinkles or seams. Woody stared at Buzz for a solid moment. A half-smile fell onto his lips.

”You’re joking, right? You do know how many butlers and maids I’ve bullied into quitting, right?” Woody said with an amused scoff. He sat up in bed and shook his head. Buzz nodded.

”I’m well aware, but I’m not like those other maids and butlers.” Buzz bowed his head down. “My name is Buzz, and I’m your new butler,” Buzz said. His body leaned upward and stopped bowing. Buzz turned to Woody’s wardrobe and grabbed a day outfit. It was red with gold accents and buttons and a long red cape. It had shiny white pants and tall black boots and a white jabot on the chest.

”You have to make a public appearance today by answering the town people’s questions about the living situation.” Buzz said, gently hanging up Woody’s outfit. Woody rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

”I’m not doing or wearing any of that.” Woody said with a breathless laugh. He got out of bed and walked towards his window. Buzz snuck up behind Woody and grabbed his wrist. Woody’s head whipped around with a wide gaze.

”You’re going to put it on and make an appearance. Your parents do a lot for you and they are worried about you. So, you’re going to wear it or I’ll ‘help’ you put it on.” Buzz said, his voice low and threatening. His grip tightened just slightly on Woody’s wrist. Woody gulped and pulled his wrist out of Buzz’s grasp.

”Fine, I’ll do the appearance and wear the…outfit. Just leave the room.” Woody said with gritted teeth. Pink dusted over Woody’s cheeks. Who does this butler think he is? Walking in here making these threats to the next king. Woody huffed and walked over to his clothes. He picked them up and held them gently in his hands. Woody glanced back at Buzz and laughed.

”Uh…you do know that you’re supposed to leave while I’m changing…right?” Woody asked sheepishly.

...what kind of butler is this?

Buzz just sat there, still. He shook his head. Woody raised an eyebrow.

”Your parents have told me how you tend to…sneak out. So, I’ll be in here while you change. It shouldn’t be any different from a maid.” Buzz said, his voice getting lower as he spoke. He held his hands together as he put them behind his back. Buzz turned around and faced the window, slightly glancing back to make sure Woody was changing.

Woody sighed as his cheeks deepened in color. He took a deep breath and took off his sleeping gown. Buzz looked downward, his blue eyes occasionally glancing back at Woody. Buzz wanted to make sure Woody wouldn’t sneak away as usual.

“I see you glancing at me,” Woody said, throwing his cape over his shoulders. “I’m not going to run away, so you can stop looking at me.” Woody added. He pulled his sleeves taut. Buzz nodded slowly.

Buzz turned around and pulled his white leather gloves tighter against his wrist. Woody couldn’t help but stare at Buzz as he fixed his glove. He swallowed. Hard. Buzz cleared his throat and waves a gentle hand in front of Woody's face.

"Are you alright, sir?" Buzz asked, putting his hand down. Woody blinked and nodded slowly. Buzz stepped in front of Woody and gripped the copper doorknob. With a slight turn of his wrist, he opened the door. Buzz turned back at Woody and held an arm out. Woody paused and walked in front of Buzz, Buzz followed closely behind before closing the door behind him. They walked down the marble halls, guards and maids occasionally gave Buzz and Woody curious looks. Buzz's hand came up and was gently placed behind Woody's lower back. Heat ran through Woody's body as he felt the hand. Woody looked over at Buzz, his eyes wide and his eyebrows were lowered.

"What are you doing?" Woody whispered angrily. Buzz looked over at Woody and tilted his head to the side.

"I'm making sure you walk with perfect posture to the dining hall," Buzz said softly. Woody scoffed. He stood up tall with his chest slightly puffed out.

"Better?" Woody huffed. Buzz lowered his hand and put it behind his back.

"Better." Buzz replied. They walked down the tall marble hall quietly, not speaking to each other. Woody thought about how much he liked his new butler. His conclusion? Neutral. Buzz was different from all of the other butlers. He kind of reminded Woody of a maid he had when he was a child. She was different and saw Woody as a human than a creature with royal blood. Kind of like Buzz. Before Woody could think about it deeper, he had already arrived at the dining hall. Buzz left Woody with a nod before leaving him to his own devices. Woody walked over to his family table and sat down at his spot. He sighed, this was going to be a long year before becoming king. The sound of his family talking and silver wear drowned out around him. To Woody, the world was caught at sea.
