Room To Grow

Summary:

Susie, moved by the flowers’ determination to live, becomes determined to let them, bringing them to Castletown and dedicating herself to their care whilst Asgore is gone. Flowery is given a nice tape bandage and popsicle stick splint, and she and Kris gently take the trek to the Grand Fountain. However, after school the next day, when she goes to visit them for their daily watering, there is one problem: All of the flowers absolutely REFUSE to go outside of their sunlight. Their encounter with the Knight has terrified them to wilting, and they have become overly involved with Flowery’s care. Ralsei, Susie and Kris now have to try to convince the flowers to come outside and spread their leaves. Flowery’s too kind to say it, but they’re all driving him crazy!

Notes:

Sorry for going AWOL on the FNAF fic. I will return to it I promise but these flowers have taken over all real estate in my brain. I love these flowers. Toby Fox I respect your writing literally everywhere else but on this front it’s so not fair we can’t bring them to Castletown so I fixed it.

Chapter 1: The Rising of The Single Sun.

Chapter Text

“They’re going to seal the fountain.” Blue sat on the edge of the castle, numb. “We did everything possible and it’s all for naught.”

Yellow sat down beside him.

“My beautiful butterfly wings will be no more. Your wonderful face will vanish forever,” He sniffled, trying to hide his expression from Yellow.

Yellow put his arm around his shoulder. “I’s sorry, Blue. But, uh.. ‘slip knot into fragrance melon cauliflower,’ isn’t that what you said earlier?”

Blue looked at him, tears running down his face, and burst out laughing.

“Did I say something wrong?”

“No- no, no,” Blue tried to regain his composure, but failing. “No, you said something I oh so desperately needed to hear.” He giggled.

Yellow gave Blue that big, silly smile of his.

“I’m going to miss you.” Blue said, staring out onto the sunrise.

“…I think I’s gonna miss you too.” Yellow said, pulling Blue close and staring with him. “Gonna miss your purdy face. And your flowers. And your ballet.”

“This was such a wonderful dream. I don’t want to wake up a flower. I don’t know if I could go back knowing how wonderful it is to be human.”

“Well. They ain’t sealed it yet.” Yellow said, standing up. “Why don’t we dance a little before we wake up?”

“Hm?” Blue stood.

“We could dance as the world ends. Seems nicer than moping around waiting for it.”

“Oh, Yellow,” He smiled. “That sounds romantic. One last dance before we go back into our chrysalis.”

“Uhh, yeah. Cristallis.”

Blue giggled again. “Lead the way, Sheriff.”

The two held hands and ran off, giggling like mischievous human children (or Aqua). Down the floors of the castle, past their colored doors, and into Blue’s theatre.

Blue put on some music, and Yellow stood on his mark. “I’m not a very good dancer, Blue.”

“That’s alright. I can teach you.”

“Gosh, you sure?”

“Positive. Now, watch. You hold my hand here… then you put your other hand on my waist, and I put mine on your shoulder.”

Yellow and Blue laced their fingers (leaves?) together.

“Then, we step in a square. You step right, then back, then left, then front.”

“Square? Like a square dance? Are we square dancing, Blue?”

Blue pondered the thought for a moment. “I suppose we are! I never thought of a waltz as a square dance before.”

“I never thoughts of anything before all this,” Yellow said, looking at their interlaced fingers. “…I think I’s gonna miss touching you most of all.”

“As am I.” Blue rested his head on Yellow’s chest.

“Well… my glass case is opposite yours. Maybe we can still look at each other.”

“With what eyes? Touch each other with what hands? Hear each other with what ears?” Blue’s grip on Yellow tightened. “We all have our parts to play in this never ending dance of life. But now… it feels so much like a tragedy.”

Yellow couldn’t think up a good answer. “Even if this is our first and last dance, I’s think I’ll keep it close to my little cowboy heart forever.”

“You will?”

“I will. Ain’t nothin’ more special than this moment. Nothin’. Not Asgore. Not Kris, n’ Susie, and that other kid who looks like Asgore. Not even Flowery.”

“Yellow!” Blue gasped.

“Uh-“ Yellow turned orange. “I mean, I like Flowery. That’s why we did that ‘oh-mega’ thing with him. But…”

“It failed.”

“It did. Besides, I don’t wanna cause the Roaring. That’s illegal! It’d be horrible for a cowboy like me to do something so awful.”

“…I suppose you’re right. We were being… selfish, to think maybe they’d seal their own fountain to let us keep ours.” Blue wiped his face. “Still, a flower can dream. Isn’t that how we got here?”

Yellow smiled again. “Yeah. Guess it is.”

“I’m glad I got to spend my short time with you, Yellow.”

“I’m glad too. Wish it could be a little longer, but…”

“That’s not how the story goes.” Blue shook his head. “But, we needn’t ‘slip into frangrance melon cauliflower.’” He giggled.

Yellow couldn’t figure out what was so funny about that phrase, but he laughed too.

Light began to pour into the theatre.

“I think it’s time to go home, Yellow.”

“Wait. Wait! I’s not ready!” Yellow stammered. Quickly, like the crack of a whip, he spun Blue around and dipped him down into a kiss, much to Blue’s delight and surprise.

“Oh!” Blue exclaimed, turning violet.

“…Okay. Now I’m ready!”

The two continued their dance until they no longer knew anything at all.
