Work Text:
She felt the sicking reality drip inside her one heartbeat at a time. Pulse, pules, bah-dump, ba-dump "You're a burden. How dare you do this?" "What makes you think this is okay?" "Was all of my hard work for nothing?" Those thoughts kept pulsing, swarming, wrapping around her brain as she sat alone in her room, arms wrapped around her tightly.
"Come to me." A voice called out causing her to shrink farther into herself. She shook her head, knowing it was wrong, knowing that following and listening to the voice she'd never return. "I know you don't want to return." It stated, simply reiterating her thoughts. Making her want to agree with it.
She sharply turned her head away, as if looking away from nothing would somehow make her be able to live with the voice easier. Bah-dump, ba-dump Her pulse sounded in her ears. She could feel it in her throat, ricocheting around with the voice inside her veins.
"I'm not like you." She stated to the stale night air of the room. "I won't be like you."
"Of course not, you'll be something else entirely." The voice came back, soothing as a drizzle of honey along a sore throat. The slow sinking feeling in her gut got heavier with each word. "It is your time, child. Come with me. Come to me. We'll make it better." The voice coaxed lightly. She thought she felt cool air stirring along her arms like it would lead her the way out of the stuffy and stale house. "This hasn't been your home for a while." It was soothing, in a way. Seeing and recognizing things she didn't want to admit.
"You're just saying things to make me want to go with you." She said bitterly, a pout dancing across her lips. "I'm stronger than that."
"Clearly." It said. "But, aren't you curious what I could do for you?"
"Nothin good." She stated, tilting her head back to look at the ceiling. "You'll cause me different kinds of pain. Pains I don't want to endure."
"Nonsense, it'll just be the fear you create in others." She barked out a laugh.
"Exactly. That's how you and I are different." She sniffed, shaking her head as she opened her eyes, looking around her room. It was messy, it was cluttered, it had tried to be her own little space but everyone kept pushing more and more in. "There's no way to survive this, is there? Not without breaking down a piece of myself, tearing it out, ripping it to shreds." She huffed, shaking her head. A tear threatens to escape her eye and she wipes it away before it could finish existing. Similar to like how she wants to create herself.
"Why didn't you tell me?" A new voice entered, she looked over to see someone she hadn't expected, someone she didn't right want to see. But that never minded before in the first place, and it'll never be a reason to continue in another place. Her wishes were never granted, her luck never changed. So why should she be surprised that she was witnessing talking to the shifter that had weaseled into her life much to her dismay.
"Cause I couldn't. You wouldn't listen." She shrugged, shaking her head. "It's alright. I'll deal with it." Like I always do.
