Chapter Text
“IT’S LEGALLY BINDING?!” White shouted in disbelief. They didn’t want to believe it. It couldn’t be legal, this SHOULDN’T be legal.
White held their head in their hands, visor wide open as they hear Orange say that it is legal until they get off the Skeld and get it revoked by a judge or something.
They couldn’t believe they were tricked.. and by that kooky engineer no less!
“This is insane. Why did it have to be ME they do this to?!” White let out a defeated groan and whining to themself.
“Did Lime have any grudges against you to cause them to do.. this?” Red questioned, knowing most of their crew well enough to know that Lime wouldn’t do something without a good reason. That made White pause and go quiet, looking off to the side.
“White..? Did you do something to upset Lime?” Orange asked, hand on their hip as they gave White a stern glare.
“Ugghhh… Fine! I took their wine bottle because it’s for drinking and they got mad and went on about god being angry at me and I’ll regret doing it or something. I didn’t think THEY would do something!” They confessed, putting their hands up before laying limply in the chair, groaning again.
The HR rep and captain looked at each other and sighed, knowing how sacred they take their religion and anything to do with it.
“Well. We can’t do anything more for than to tell to just.. tolerate this until we get to Industria, okay?” Orange put their hands together, handing the marriage certificate to White before leaving.
Red followed after, saying something about Captain duties, leaving White to deal with the mess they themself created but not wanting to take responsibility. They sighed loudly, wondering what their parents will think if they find out.
The vent cover in security opened, Lime poking their head out with a smug look on their face.
“Don’t take my things next time.” White snapped to look at them before they got an idea to get back at them.
White stood, walking over to Lime slowly.
“You’re right, I apologize for taking your wine dear spouse.” They breathed a laugh before continuing, “As more of an apology, I’d like to offer you a nice dinner.” They grabbed Lime by the waist and hoisted them out of the vent. White had to admit they were lighter than they expected.
“Uh- wha-“ Lime stuttered, now seeing that they were trapped in the other’s grasp. They didn’t expect this. It was a jab back at the capitalist, wasn’t supposed to be taken seriously.
“What’s wrong? We’re spouses, right? We should act like it.” White spoke with a smuggyier tone, already walking to the cafeteria while Aline’s brain tried catching up.
Lime started to squirm to get out of White’s hands before White dropped them at one of the tables.
”Don’t think about leaving, that wouldn’t be very kind of my spouse now would it.” They smiled at Lime, knowing they’d agree and sit still.
And they were right, Lime stopped before grumbling and sinking into their seat. White looked pleased with themself as they went to ask Yellow and Brown for a quick snack.
After the two chefs looked at White and then Lime they nodded and went to work getting something whipped up.
In the meantime, the two sat while White made some small talk to get to know Lime and to see how long it would take for Lime to regret their choice of “revenge”.
———
It has been three weeks of the two Crewmates being legally married. Everyone else sort of forgot about it after about a week.
White laid asleep in their bed, it being a private room for the contest winner, with Lime laying beside them fast asleep.
It took a lot to convince them to sleep in a bed instead of the gross vents but White was proud of themself when the engineer finally went to bed with them. Lime was less tired and irritated now than they have ever been.
They slept peacefully before they were rudely woken up with the lights turning on and half the crew barging in.
“Fuck- what is it?” White sat up annoyed, wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep.
”So sorry! We are just looking for Lime, the electricity is on the fritz again-“ As Orange spoke the lights went out again.
“You wouldn’t happen to know where they are would you?” Black asked, raising their eyebrow.
The contest winner looked at them and then to Lime who dragged the blanket over themself completely in hopes of blocking out the light before it went out.
White sighed, shaking Lime awake so they can fix whatever mess the rest caused and then get back to sleep.
Lime groaned before sitting up. Glaring at everything around them.
“What is it now you jaw wackers?” They snapped.
Everyone just stared before Green pointed to the lights, not understanding why everyone else was so stunned.
“The lights keep flickering on and off, the box in electrical keeps sparking too-”
“It’s always those damn gremlins!” Lime shouted about aliens and nothing ever working on this damned ship before stomping over to the vent and slamming it shut as they made their way to electrical to fix the lights and everything else on the ship.
The rest of the crew slow turned to look at White who in turn gave them a deadpanned look.
“Can you get out now, I’d like to go back to sleep.” They growled out with a fake smile, watching the skeld crew file out and close the door. White sighed, pinching below their visor before the vent opened again, Lime climbing out.
“Can’t have any peace and quiet on this damn ship.” They muttered, crawled back into bed, and held White’s side before conking out immediately.
White looked down and smiled, their irritation melting away before they too went back to sleep.
-
They never got the marriage reversed when they got back Industria. White actually asked to stay on the Skeld and because their parents are rich, MIRA allowed it.
….somehow.
