Work Text:

Steve Rogers was loving the night out with Hermione Granger-Strange and her husband, Dr. Stephen Strange, and Kingsley Shacklebolt. “I have never had ice cream before. How does it taste?” Kingsley inquired of Steve as he noticed Captain America’s shocked look.

“You really haven’t tasted ice cream before, Kingsley? It's really awesome! You have to try their new flavor: Birthday Cake. It's so sweet and creamy and would tickle your tastebuds for more.” Steve explained to a confused Wizard Minister.

“Hey Hestia!” Hermione saw the woman standing next to the ice cream stand eating a hot dog.

“Hey Hermione! Kingsley! Stephen! And Steve! Welcome to the Ice Dog stand. My cousin is running here. It is awesome! Try this flavour, Kingsley. I know you are dying to try it!” Hestia coaxed Kings to try the Birthday Cake flavor that was in a regular ice cream cone covered with hot chocolate syrup.

Kingsley took a lick and liked it immediately, and devoured the whole ice cream cone.

Hermione and Stephen were in awe as Kingsley chewed the ice cream and then swallowed it. “More, please, Hestia.”

Hestia sighed, shaking her head as she prepared a hot dog with mustard, ketchup, onions, chili, and slaw. “First try this with fries.”

Kingsley took a bite of the hot dog without examining his food for the first time and relished the grilled taste. “When are you coming back home so others may try this? You need to open up a shop, and I can be a silent partner in this endeavour."

Hermione and Stephen had a shocked look on their faces when they were eating their cheeseburgers. “Say what?”

“Has Kingsley totally lost it, dear?” Stephen whispered in her ear.

Hermione swallowed her delicious cheeseburger before polishing off her Pepsi icee. “Actually no, it's a brilliant idea! And he did, after all, send Ron on a goose chase to find Excalibur.”

Stephen smirked, “Ah, yes, I do recall poor Ronald in that gassy swamp while looking for Excalibur. Is he still looking for it?”

Hermione looked at her iPhone and saw Ronald’s red dot moving in the woods where Excalibur was supposed to be. “Yes, dearest, he is,” and showed Stephen the map.

Stephen chuckled as he downed his Pepsi icee, feeling the heat. “Can we go back now?” he implored his wife, not noticing that Hermione was staring at Steve and Hestia staring into each other’s eyes.

“Shhh…this is what we are here for, Stephen. Kingsley, give them some space!” Hermione quietly pulls Kingsley away from the food cart as they watch Hestia wiping some of the Birthday Cake ice cream away from his mouth.

The group heard the fireworks setting off as Hestia closed up the food truck. “Let’s go see them! I heard they are using drones instead of setting off fireworks from the ground?”

“Yes, it's quite safer that way. A better view would be over here by the Coney Island Pier.” Steve guided the rest of the group to the pier and found a nice spot for them to watch the fireworks sizzle and pop, making intricate designs in the night sky.

Steve felt compelled to tell Hestia his confession and whispered in her ear, “Would you like to go out tomorrow night? To dinner perhaps? And get to know each other better?”

Hestia’s eyes widened in surprise, and she kissed him while the fireworks exploded into a spray of red, white and blue.
