Work Text:

She stood up, back straight up so she could see drifts face; shocked and annoyed. 'Ugh you suck- How is it even possible to get so Good!' She huffed but AJ smiled, her eyes squinting as she said 'Hmmm, sounds like a you problem, open book'

'It is NOT a me problem, the problem is how you are just so goddamn, unfortunately and unbelievably perfect at Everything-'

'Sounds like jealousy~'

'Oh believe me when i say i am NOT jealous of you'

'Mmmmm… maybe not jealousy, but you want me, don't you?'

Drift's mouth slammed shut, her eyelids fluttering as she looked at the pool Table behind AJ. She opened her mouth to retort but she was stumped. She hated when they did this, they were right in a way but she also absolutely despised them.

It was complicated, drift hated how much she was intrigued by AJ's nature. They were such an asshole but, that had to have stemmed from some sort of problem in their past. Or maybe it was a facade built to try and distance themselves from emotion.

They've gone on before about how people in the academy are too selfless and quick to jump in front of the sword and be martyred but if what they shared before was true, that they only rile people up to try and see how quickly people are to jump to murder. Then they aren't any better than the others. If by trying to prove a point, you get hurt; then what's the difference when ros or someone else tries to do the same.

Maybe it was another plan to discourage their own negative emotions; by acting like their pain was nothing more than a disagreement when they were bleeding out, it made it easier to lie to their own brain. All drift could think about was the mystery of their past, and how even if they didn't like it, they are similar of sorts.

'Ohh, cat got your tongue now? Can't even think with how flustered you are?' AJ taunted, their own face a peach colour and when drifting didn't respond, just kept going on 'don't act like you don't looveee me~'

She was so fucking annoying, many opportunities ran through her head in the seconds; stabbing her with the cue stick that sat, sweating in her left hand, running out the room without a fuss, starting a proper yelling match. But unfortunately her brain picked the worst, secret, fifth option.

She pushed forward, pushing aj's hips against the pool table and holding her own palms against the sides of the table, holding AJ in front of her. Her face was likely a strong red as she registered the extreme intensity that she walked forward and how very, very close they were now.

AJ's breath was hot on her face, she was stuttering and honestly, Drift liked this. She was finally the person two steps ahead and had AJ right below her.

'Oh, cat got your tongue?' Drift muttered, her eyes wandering down to their oddly soft lips, that was neither here nor there.

AJ smiled slyly, her eyes suddenly moving up to drifts. Her confidence growing and she said,

'mmm… maybe i think I'd like something else to Catch my tongue'

Before thoughts came into the mix, AJ's hands were on her face and drift was leaning downwards. They quickly started to kiss, their faces hot and heavy. Drift leaned somehow closer as AJ ran her hands though her hair and she let out a small sigh, like a flood breaking the dam, she gave in and gave AJ her all.

They both desired eachother so much, from the fake-enemies or the lack of… each others presence, they both wanted this so badly but neither of them had brought it up again. Drift's heart beat fast and thundered in her ears, but all she could think about was AJ, their half-lidded eyes when they pulled away.

Her hands ached as she held the side of the pool table, but it was worth it to be so close to AJ who was now moving their hands to gently comb and pull at drift's hair, her yellow flowers falling down from the crown of hair slightly.

AJ pulled back, her eyes trailing down drifts face like a waterfall. From her messy flowers to her amber eyes to the red cheeks then to her soft lips that tasted slightly like something floral. She wanted to add a snarky remark and she tried to but before the first syllable came out, drift had her chin in her hand and was peppering her lips with violet-sweet kisses.

They had felt love before: romantic, sexual, platonic, familial, but never anything close to how she felt for drift. Maybe it was the almost story-like quality of their situation, but something always Endeared AJ when it came to love stories.

Romeo and Juliet used to plague their mind and made her hands want to hit from how much she, in a way, envied that they were so naive. But she always kept it in her bag, reading it high up in trees that only the birds knew. Only in that one Moment would she let it go and she would wish for a happy ending where she wasn't the villain. Not the antagonist but someone who was The number one choice, or even beloved.

Their bodies were so close, they might as well be one. The glowing yellow flowers in drifts hair were falling out as she, more passionately now, pressed kisses into AJ's (surprisingly) soft lips, Who happily returned them. Soon, they started to rock, back and forth on the balls of their feet then hungry, like a fight between the two of who was more in love.

Pausing for a second, AJ climbed to sit on the edge of the pool table. Luckily all the balls remained where they were as she won but a loud clattering rung out as the cue stick fell down. They both looked awkwardly around for what felt like ages until they began to make out, starting to add in a Bite of the lip, or the tip of the tongue. And soon they barely cared for their surroundings, fully engaged with each other.

The standing woman's hands rested on AJ's hips as they kissed, then they gently started to move upwards, tracing lines on their spine which made AJ shudder. They were suffocatingly close, and it was nice to let drift have her fun but their back was starting to hurt from being on the table.

So they slowly paused the kisses even though she longed for them back and stood up, stretching her legs for a second before pulling drifting down to her eye level and roughly pushing her up against the wall, her breathing audibly increased again as they continued to make-out. Her eyes glinted in the fleeting moments where she opened them to see the pretty woman in front of her, so flustered and hot in more ways than one.

Their hands were travelling and feeling around each others bodies, drifts hands were up AJ's shirt where they were drawing small flowers with her cool nails on her flaming hot body while AJ was slowly losing grip on the wall so they were slowly creeping down to the wooden floor.

They descended until there was just a bit left, where then AJ pulled drift down by the waist. they were on the floor, sitting awkwardly with their legs tangled and a sense of realisation for what they're doing, making it much more difficult to stay calm as they tried to manoeuvre into a comfortable position on hardwood.

in the end, both of AJ's legs were straddling drifts thighs, who had her arms around the woman on top of her. AJ paused before saying with drifts face in their hands

'You know I don't really hate you?' AJ spoke, their words quiet like they were being whispered to the wind, but drift caught them in her palm And scared, said

'You show it in weird ways then…'

Why did she have to respond like that, it was far too vague, far too joking to match the rare piece of vulnerability that AJ shared. Secretly, She was also shocked that AJ was even talking after how sore her lips must be from how hard drift bit them. I guess drift was confused, they had never spoken so… truthfully, before. She was scared that something was wrong with them before realising her mistake.

'I just love you soo~ much~-'

Fuck. That one moment that drift should've savoured was gone. Snap. Just like that AJ was joking again, she mentally hit herself for making such a mistake. She wanted that back.

'- but seriously, you mean a lot.'

Did AJ seriously just open up!?! Again?!?! What a surprise , and all It took was a hell of a make-out that definitely didn't happen if someone asks. But it felt, sweet how AJ was more confident this time, Like she let that wind take her words like sending messages through flick, their voice was steadier and drifting would absolutely be thinking about it later.

'You too! Wait… uhhhh..'

They both chuckled and looked at each other before avoiding eye contact. It felt too real when they looked into each others eyes.

'… you mean lot to me too, aimsey'

Their eyes sparkle in the light as they whip their head up, recognising how drift used the longest name for them. It looked weird coming out of their mouth, but also kind of nice as well; it was like when accepting wedding vows you have to say your partners name. Something about the… effort? I guess, that it took for drift to say something so formal and meaningful. It made AJ's heart beat faster, and her cheeks glow again.

They stayed there for a moment, lingering in each others company and basked in the soft, ochre glow of the lights that contrasted against the harsh, indigo shadows that held uncertainty. Damn she was falling in love, maybe this is how Juliet felt when catching Romeo's eye from across the dance room, warm and wanting.

She thought how much she thoroughly wanted AJ, their hair was messy and their lips were red with the lipstick that used to be in her own very lips. Part of her hated hated how their friends were so right about her unfortunate crush, it was supposed to be their and only their little secret, a small private retreat where they could share feelings free. But another part of her liked that feeling, the way she wouldn't need to hide it if only she didn't need to for the good of everyone.

drift's heart wanted to be close to AJ even more than they were in this moment, not having to dodge the questions people asked about why they were together so much, even if they were assuming the truth anyway. But then again, being whatever they are, publicly, would Have its own problems to come with it. People would just change to ask why she liked the spy, the rebel, the one who poisoned the kitchen. And she couldn't exactly say that she was also trying to destroy the academy. She probably wouldn't be also to even tell anyone of her friends about this.

she wished she, in a twisted way, that these people; her friends, were back at the castle she was a prisoner of. It would've been nice in another universe to gossip and sleepover and laugh with them without the pressure of lives pressing down on their backs. Where their biggest problem would be who to take to a ball, or what room to stay in at the castle.

But that all was too complicated so she wafted away her imagination and instead said quietly

'I hate having to pretend to not love you-'

Her already weak voice broke

'-i hate not being honest…'

that's all she managed to share, her voice echoed off the walls and high ceiling. It felt empty until AJ took her face in her rough hands and, with a question deep in the sparkle of their eyes

'If you hate it, why don't you just leave? Or just tell them, it doesn't matter anyway. They clearly know you are sooo~ in love with me'

Their voice trailed out, considering her own words. Their eyes looked away at the room behind drift, they looked almost like someone kind, someone simpler to figure out.

'Because things would change, and i don't think i can handle that…'

The silence was deafening, but they sat there for a minute or so, legs intertwined and their hands holding each other. Maybe just a moment longer like this would be nice, away from the others only under the warm light.
